If you're a masochist, at least there's some pleasure in the pain. Being a Giants fan these days is either
A: An unfulfilling hobby
B: A bad habit
C: A waste of time
D: All of the above
Imagine getting up at 3:00 AM to wrap yourself in this continuous lunacy.
And the "new" stadium.. been there.. it's a pos. Youd think a stadium of that size would have adequate sized concourses? It's like a sardine can
. 2 billion for a tuna can?
I changed my strategy this weekend. With the giants sucking for so long now I have already lost my oldest girls who have no interest in watching the team lose and me be miserable. My youngest son who is five decided that this was going to be the first game he watched with me as the ladies did something else. I don’t want him to hate football so I treated the game as just a 3 hr fun thing to do with my son deciding from the start I didn’t care what happened as long as he was having fun. I laughed with him through the initial 14-0 debacle and we cheered through the comeback and when he was getting disinterested we threw the ball around and got some donuts and watched the end of the game. He didn’t care what happened but we had fun with me staying upbeat and I think I have my new football buddy. Time for me to stop being selfish about the g-men being life or death. The team sucks and deep down I hate this team right now but dammit if they are not going to ruin another Sunday for me.
The smartest move I EVER made in my life was not paying the ridiculous criminal price of 30K PSL for the right to buy 2 tickets at 250 per for 10 games a year not including parking to watch this disgraceful product. Every Sunday at church I thank the lord for guiding me and providing the smarts to not pay the ransom to Johnny "the criminal and idiot" Mara.
The fun of NFL football is way gone ..... that left when MetLife was built and insane pricing took hold and training camp left Albany.

agree I put my son on the waiting list back in 1994.. but once the PSL came, we passed
Giants fan site, Eric is stuck watching this drek.
I'm retired, so it's no real big deal to waste 4 hours on Sunday. Even then, I only half watch it while I surf the web.
But, anyone with kids, or anything better to do, why on earth would you make the Giants a priority? Right now, they're like a tv show that's long past its prime, but you keep watching just because you've invested so much time in the show.
You don't have to stop being a fan, or rooting for the Giants, but you don't have to not take advantage of more enjoyable/fruitful activities. The only reason to watch (if you're not enjoying it) is bragging rights to say you watched even in the bad years. Is that a real reason?
It was a competitive game. We had a chance to win in the 4th quarter. There have been weeks we were blown out and that's no fun. You can only have so much fun when losing. If we had pulled it out you wouldn't be whining so much.

Not buying it. The Jets were a 1-7 team with a ton of backups playing. They were averaging about 12 points per game. It was easy to predict this (and I did).
They are bland, boring, stale, irrelevant. They are in desperate need of a re-hauling of the entire franchise with people who have zero connections to them and have never worked within their methods. New voices with new perspectives.

Sounds like it would have been more fun if you called a bookie
BFD we aren't playing well duh. You think predicting a loss is genius at work? You should take a time out and go watch badminton or something.
Yeah, a lot of people stupidly thought Gettleman's collection of spare parts would be able to do more than 'compete' with a 1-7 team whose QB was 'seeing ghosts' a couple of weeks ago and is missing a ton of players to injury.
Of course anyone who knows better knew the shit state of the Giants essentially guaranteed them a win. No matter how hard the Adam Gase led, injury riddled Jets tried, the Giants were not about to let them escape with a loss.
It was his edict that we carry Eli and his insane cap hit into this season. I prayed we cut him and signed Fitzpatrick in the off-season. That loyalty is really paying off. Think 15 million could buy some talent?
Sure, we were in it, but after years of watching the D not be able to close the deal, there's a lack of confidence that we could pull of a win. We fight to get a lead, and then quickly give it up.
Is this what we're down to? being happy we almost won? being pessimistic about pulling out a victory and being right most of the time?
Maybe you convinced yourself this wasn't a rebuilding year but it was. That's probably why you're so miserable.
We had personnel issues at multiple positions and first and second year starters at multiple positions. Our OC's are weak. Our RT is a placeholder. Our LB's stink. We don't have a FS to speak of. Then the genius head coach benches the only stabilizing element on the roster in Eli. It was over right there. Jones may be the future but he's not the present. Shurmur flushed any shot at respectability when he made the move so early. Now we pay the price.
Honestly what did you think was going to happen? Relax. Have a beer watch the young kids develop. That's all this season was ever going to be about. Some of it is fun. Slayton can ball. Jones should be good once he figures it all out. Saquon is struggling but we know he's a stud.
The Giants have almost done the impossible. A team with two young who look like they could develop into stars at the QB and RB position has given their fan base little hope for the future.
Giants fans have tolerated a lot of crappy football in different decades because there was at least some hope things would get better. And you can point to many years where the Giants had a bad overall record, but fought hard in every game. Look at the 1995 season for example. Terrible season. But the Giants fought tooth and nail in every game that year and came close to upsetting far better teams. And that was with a coach we couldn't wait to get rid of.
Hell, I'd take Jim Fassel back over the ass clown we have now.
And Gettleman? He's more snake oil salesmen than GM.

For the team to not regress. The defense is atrocious. Again. The offensive line is actually worse than the line that finished 2018 with a bunch of scrubs.
What did I expect? To not miss four extra points in three games.
What did I expect? To have a head coach whose every instinct is Costanza-like. (He should do the opposite of what his instincts tell him).
What did I expect. To not trade away two draft picks for an upcoming free agent, and then have your DC play a 2-lineman defense when you have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick already invested in the position.
At some point in time the "rebuilding" excuse goes out the window and the reality of being a poorly run, disorganized, disaster of a franchise sets in.
We long time fans can watch it during the week and take stock of the good plays and players. Rooting for this team this season is hapless. Too many breakdowns and utter disappointment. It is like waterboarding as someone mentioned above. I do not see building when we only get one good player per draft. That is a trickle.
This was always a multi year rebuild. The team is in flux. I'm more worried about the coaching than anything. I like a lot of the young players futures. But they're going through the learning curve. We have some caproom to continue the build. We'll have a good Draft slot. I'm not happy about it but I'm not despondent either. I'm worried some of you guys need to be talked off a ledge.
I'm sure once Mara realizes two years from now that DG doesn't have a fucking clue what he's doing Kevin Abrams will get this thing turned around in no time.
LOL.
How could you possibly think it would get better? Â
They went to a rookie QB and that's not how you improve your record in the short term.
The roster is improving imo. They've brought in good young players that I see a future with. There is more work to do. We have cap assets and Draft slot for next season.
As far as today's game specifically? We started three backup OL. No Shep. No Engram. A gimped Saquon. You guys thought this was a gimme? LOL.
RE: RE: How could you possibly think it would get better? Â
We had no cap room to sign anyone decent. The moment we chose to keep paying Eli was the moment we chose to prolong any rebuilding
Teams seldom get better through free agency. And when Gettleman has spent money on free agents, 90 percent of them have been disappointments.
I won't argue that Free Agency is the answer but to think that we can't invest 23 million dollars in a better position than backup QB...even Reese isn't that inept

The Dolphins beat the Jets. And the Dolphins will be us.
As for the Jets:
Connor Hughes @Connor_J_Hughes
The Jets just won despite missing their projected starting: LG, C, RG, RT, WR2, DE, MLB 1, MLB 2, MLB 3-5, CB 1, CB2
In terms of overall roster talent I disagree. Results are finicky when young players are relied upon. For example Baker had a solid game today but he didn't get his head around for an easy INT and instead gets called for PI. There is work to do.
I agree the coaching is a disaster. If there is a single aspect that scares me about the future it's the coaches. But coaches are replaceable.
there should be signs of positive change.
Instead, it looks worse than when the rebuild began, and no signs of hope.
only fools thought the rebuild was done. But we did think the rebuild should have been further than what it appears.
That's the problem. It's not getting better. It's getting worse.
as most of you know, I have been extremely critical of this regime. I after preseason, that the team was moving forward positively, and even though I wasn't a fan, DG deserved more time. After about 5 games, I realized that the team was actually worse. If I was seeing signs of improvement I would not have been as critical as I have been lately. These guys deserve every bit of crap we give them and more.
'The Dolphins beat the Jets. And the Dolphins will be us.' Â
If that happens so what. This isn't about the present. If you can't see the forest for the trees and all you want to do is bitch and moan then take a break. It's not fun for you go do something else with your free time. The Giants will still be here when you're strong enough to watch again haha.
It's not getting better. They may have the QB, but he's getting the snot beaten out of him right now. Same with Saquon.
Gettleman said two years ago he'd fix the OL. It's worse.
The defense hasn't gotten any better.
The coaching is horrific.
You had better get on the ledge with us.
To Eric's point, Shurmur looks overmatched. And while people keep harping that it takes years to rebuild a franchise, look at what Jon Gruden is doing in Oakland, and they traded Mack and are moving the team at the end of the season. They signed Trent Brown, and he is blocking guys. We signed Nate Solder, and he is a turnstile. The excuses are getting old at this point.
We are losing because we stink and have bad football people in charge of making football decisions. And those guys don't get the benefit of the doubt because they are football guys. I can see giving Gettleman another season given that some of his draft picks at least appear to have promise. But Shurmur? No way. HIs game management is awful, and every week he simply looks overmatched out there.
I don't think I can put it any simpler than this.. Â
Remember when Tiki Barber had a problem with ball security? And TC addressed it right away... and fixed it?
Well, how long have the ball security issues plagued DJ and yet.. it doesn't seem like there's been any thought given to fixing it, does it?
Not just from a DJ mechanics and grip/awareness standpoint. From a pass-protection scheme standpoint as well. No TE help on the line to assist in pass pro.
DL is better will be one of the better ones in the league. Have some decent young talent in the secondary - Baker, Ballantine, Haley is a good tackler but seems to struggle in coverage a bit. Their Achilles heel is the LB corps - which is a serious issue in a 3-4 defense.
OL - Hernandez will be fine. Teams have tape on him - he'll continue to develop. Zeitler is a very good player, seems to be playing hurt. OL will take the longest to rebuild - completely changed all OL staff, This is where bad drafting hurt the Giants the most.
RE: Coaching staff - not qualified to render a decision. But, if they make a switch - I won't be surprised.
and for those who say this isn't a rebuild,
New GM, New HC and massive turnover of personnel and team is playing more rookies than any other team - not to mention the many 2nd and 3rd year players - this is exactly what a rebuild is.
I'm pissed too. I'm just not going to spend all day and night on a sports web site crying about it.
Quote:
this is what it looks like.
It sucks, I'm pissed, but I keep it in perspective.
If I saw the "building", I would be on board. But I don't see the foundation being built at all.
They started the foundation with a running back #2 overall on a team that desperately needed help at every premium position.
It should surprise no one that the foundation has a giant crack in it when they started the foundation at step #10 instead of step #1.

Some fans are still living in denial. We are the get-well team for everyone.
The New York Giants may in fact be the worst team in football.
I'd take the shitty Ray Handley and Dan Reeves teams over this bunch.

They're "building" alright! The foundation is straw and the floors above are brick.
