NFT: Knicks suck, too: Down 18 at the half to Cleveland

bceagle05 : 11/10/2019 8:40 pm
Bricking every free throw. Completely flat and uninspired at home off a big road win the other night in Dallas. Need to show a little fight in the second half.

That PC was as dumb and pointless
moespree : 11/10/2019 11:55 pm : link
As when they released an official statement because no star signed with them in free agency.

Reminder that Steve Mills is now 165-337 as an executive.
Really inexplicable to lose tough game in Boston on a Friday,
shockeyisthebest8056 : 11/11/2019 12:17 am : link
then look abysmal against a terrible team at home on Sunday. Ridiculous to win a tough game in Dallas on a Friday, then look abysmal against a terrible team at home on Sunday.

People know the team isn't good, but these are shit efforts at home against shit teams 2 days after quality efforts.
What explanation is there for their 3 worst games of the season thus
shockeyisthebest8056 : 11/11/2019 12:44 am : link
far to be at home? Even the Chicago game was trending that way until Bobby Portis lost his mind.
this team has talent
nygiants16 : 11/11/2019 7:16 am : link
you cant tell me cleveland has more talent, team plays stupid..

and i can tske a team playing hard and losing, but i cant watch what we just watched last night, that is just lazy..

and that press conference proves 1 thing very clearly
nygiants16 : 11/11/2019 7:49 am : link
Mills and Perry are safe..
1 team is built for the modern NBA
hitdog42 : 11/11/2019 7:55 am : link
the other is built for the early 80s.

what is a coach supposed to do with that backcourt? when the league is driven by the.... well backcourt and ball handlers.

I don't like Fiz but the composition of the team is prehistoric.

the Cavs on the other hand will be watchable as they have backcourt players, a few vets, and a coach with a good system.

and btw the nets suck too... they give up 120pts a game. total disgrace- bunch of returning players with their heads up their ass really.

My problem with the knicks is not missing shots, its not even how they play on offense..

It is the lack of effort and complete stupid shit they do, the players even admitted at the beginning of the year they have tonplay hard defensively and that was the way they had to win..

Last night wasnt about talent, it was a complete lack of effort, friday night they pkayed hard on defense and the offense was secondary and they won...

TyreeHelmet : 11/11/2019 8:36 am : link
Fiz saying they are only 2 games out of the playoffs is insane.

These players sure loved to talk about bringing the toughness back to the Garden, but Randle and Portis are some of the softest defenders in the league. I knew Portis was a bad defender, I just didn’t know he was this bad.

I expected this team to be bad but this team is even worse than I expected. Dolan needs to look at the contracts they gave out, look at those players performance on the court, rewatch the press conference last night and fire Perry and Mills this morning. They have no clue how to build a winning team.
Fiz insisting on giving Randle, Portis and Morris as much time on the
Heisenberg : 11/11/2019 8:44 am : link
floor together as they get is absolutely killing me. That combination does not work at all. You can only play two of those at a time. I don't understand how Fiz can't see that.
People think Mills and Perry are the problem?
arniefez : 11/11/2019 8:44 am : link
Who is Dolan going to get to come work for him at this point?

It can’t be any worse. Mills has the rare gift of losing every season but also not getting any good young players.

You can’t be any worse at the job then Mills.
Speaking
DanMetroMan : 11/11/2019 8:49 am : link
of Dolan..
Link - ( New Window )
Based on the reporting
bceagle05 : 11/11/2019 9:00 am : link
it probably played out like this:

Dolan heard the "Dolan Sucks" chant and got pissed
He summoned Mills and Perry during the game
(Bondy reported all three weren't at their seats in the 3rd quarter)
He forced Mills and Perry to face the music and put Fiz on notice.

This team can't win as constructed, so Fiz's days are numbered.
People can point to roster construction all they want
Mike in NJ : 11/11/2019 9:31 am : link
But this team should still be better than it has been.

They were playing guys like Noah Vonleh, Emmanuel Mudiay, Lance Thomas, and Mario Hezonja major minutes last season. You replace them with Julius Randle, Marcus Morris, RJ Barrett, and Bobby Portis and some how got worse?

There is definitely talent on this team, but this coach clearly isn't figuring out a way to get the most out of it. Just a few obvious examples that people have brought up several times:

- Stop playing Randle and Morris together.
- Bobby Portis is undeserving of the number of minutes he is playing. The guy is an absolute zero on defense, and is way too streaky offensively to make up for it.
- Knox should NEVER be in at shooting guard. He is not quick enough to cover wings, and his best position is probably power forward, but Fizdale keeps pushing him the opposite direction.
- Julius Randle can not initiate the offense, and under no circumstance should he be at the top of the key trying to cross dudes up and making failed spin move attempts. His best position is probably small ball center, but how many minutes has he played there?

despite Dolan, the Knicks will be in play for most front office types. It's a no lose situation. You get paid millions and you have a built-in excuse if things don't go well.
once Mills get canned

watch him NEVER get another meaningful job in the NBA. Perry and Fiz will likely latch on somewhere as assistant GM and coach respectively.

to keep harassing Dolan at these games. Nothing physical or anything, but just the “Dolan Sucks” stuff. Make him throw thousands of people out. We know what a sensitive little child he is. Make him completely miserable and see if he actually gets fed up and considers selling the team.

At least there's some drama - will this team come out and fight, or lose to another bottom-feeder? Thursday is the must-watch game though - I'm sure Dallas will enjoy embarrassing us at home if they can.
Ujiri
TyreeHelmet : 11/11/2019 10:21 am : link
So what will it take to get Masai here? Supposedly the Wizards offered north of 10mill a year and he passed. Dolan should offer whatever it takes to make him come and give him complete power. He's the guy.

If this season continues the way its gone, I don't think Mills can survive this. He's been sheltered from Phil Jackson, some of those "tanking" years and with the allure of Kevin Durant last summer. Thats all gone now and the heat is one- deservedly so.

i dont know when his contract is up but you probably have to give up picks to get him..

I wonder if rc buford is gettable..

Bobby fuckin' Portis making $17 million.
bceagle05 : 11/11/2019 11:08 am : link
I think it might be a few dollars less, but the point remains - what the hell were they thinking. Portis and Ellington were the two signings that struck me as completely meaningless. I know we can't have a team of 20-year-olds, but Kornet is a better player than Portis at a fraction of the cost. Same with Dotson/Ellington. Mills and Perry, be better than that.

And this is the one time i dont blame dolan if hebcompletely cleans house, mills and perry came to him with a plan, they traded kp and told dolan they were going to get high priced free agents and get a top pick, didnt happen...

If they just fore fizdale, nothing is going to chanhe

I really doubt anything will happen before EOY. But at that point I'd suspect they'll completely tear everything down.

What they should do, which wont happen, fire mills, and fo not fire anyone else until the new guy is hired..

Once he is hired, let him make the decision..

I hate fizdale right now but you dont let mills make that decision, stop giving him lifelines

Are paying Payton, Portis, Gibson, Bullock and Ellington 45 million this year. I don’t care that they are 1 year deals- that’s outrageous.

And for all the praise about “cap flexibility” these morons received and even promoted themselves, they have over 10 million committed to Noah and Randle ( assuming he leaves) in 2021-2022 season- the next offseason when top FAs are available. Not that it even matters anyway but that’s an awful allocation of resources.
I also wonder
Jon in NYC : 11/11/2019 11:22 am : link
if Presti could be an option. It has to be frustrating to build a juggernaut in OKC only to lose everyone because your owners are cheap.
Presti should trade us SGA and some first rounders this season

The season to try to save his own ass, but the statement on the first day of free agency and the impromptu press conference last night are pretty clearly Dolan forcing Mills to take those actions. Seems like he’s sick of being the one to take all of the heat and criticism and is finally trying to make Mills the face of all the dysfunction and failure.

I think you're right about this. No way in hell Mills/Perry held that presser last night without being forced to do it. Jimmy Dolan is hyper-sensitive to criticism, and the crowd was rough on him last night. He clearly read them the riot act during the game. I think Steve Mills is running out of escape plans.

hire a guy who has done the job before and been succesful...please just one time be smart..

Dont go for the splashy name with inexperience, Woj makes mention of this all the time, if the knicks actually opened up their search they could hire the best guy to do the job...

SGA looks great and is a real player. Another Knicks screwup and they can’t blame that one on Jackson. Him over Knox would have been huge.

I would love Presti and he would be my 2nd choice behind Masai. But is he really walking away from all those picks and SGA?

Dolan needs to write a blank check and offer complete power to run the entire basketball operation. If he truly does that, he will be able to find someone good. And not the assistant GM from Sacramento...

Mike in NJ : 11/11/2019 11:41 am : link
At this point I think it would be worth it. It would suck losing out on a player like Cole Anthony, Anthony Edwards or Wiseman, but finally having not just a competent GM, but a legitimately great FO exec running the show is more important.
when Riley went to Miami
Enzo : 11/11/2019 11:44 am : link
I believe part of the deal was a piece of the team. Doing the same with the knicks would be complicated because of how ownership of the team and the Rangers and MSG and other properties is structured (although that seems to be in flux lately)....but that's the kind of offer you're looking at to land one of the NBA's truly big fish.
