This whole head coach thing...

ryanmkeane : 11/10/2019 8:50 pm
one of my best buddies who is a die hard texted me the other day, as a joke, and said "What's McAdoo up to these days?"

I laughed, and then realized that Ben McAdoo went 11-5 and had a great gameplan against the Packers, if our receivers showed up that day it might have been a different outcome.

Pat Shurmur hasn't sniffed the success that Ben McAdoo had here.....from everything in terms of winning, preparation, game management, situational play calling, getting our studs the ball....Ben McAdoo was worlds better than Pat Shurmur. And that is really all you need to know.

The owners have really botched this whole "head coach of the New York Giants" thing dating back to the Coughlin resignation. Say all you want about Reese/Gettleman, etc....but on gamedays the buck stops with the coach, and the coaching has been absolutely abysmal.
Well

Losing to the Jets is what put the nail in the coffin for Coughlin

Hopefully they’ll get rid of Shurmur on December 30th
So true so sad

Mara should have no say in who is hired leave it to the football people.

Coughlin won two SBs and was the coach for 12 seasons, any tenure that last longer than 10+ years is pretty amazing in the NFL. Losing to the Jets wasn't the nail in the coffin for him, it was just time for him to go after a storied tenure. He was also basically 70 years old.
DG shouldn’t get a pass

But if Shurmer really thinks we’re “on the right path” and he’s “built for this” we are epically fucked.

And, sadly, I long for McAdoo right about now. He’ll, I’d settle for the mini-me version of him over this ass clown Shurmer.

Hell, not he’ll.

need a disciplined leader who demands respect as their head coach. You think guys are waking up on Sundays and are super pumped to play for this guy?
any player on this giants team

not donating a certain percentage of their game checks to charity is simply, and statistically, a loser.
Found myself wondering the other day
j_rud : 11/10/2019 9:05 pm : link
what McAdoo would do with Jones. Not sure how I got there, probably bc Jones has the skill set McAdoo wanted. Hey, it happens. Sometimes you find yourself romanticizing that ex-girlfriend. Glossing over the warts. When the truth is she'd still be be doing crazy shit like blowing someone at a bachelorette party or lining up in 11 personnel 90% of the time.
Shurmur isn’t the answer

But I certainly am not longing for McAdoo either. He sucked too.

we have a short memory when it comes to McAdoo. Yes, he completely lost the locker room in his last season and it was a disaster. But when he had a good roster, he coached pretty damn well.
I wonder

What he is thinking right now. He probably has a big smile on his face watching this mess the last two years. At least he went 11-5 his first year.

It's worth noting that John Mara was in all the interviews back in 2004 and probably had close to the same level of involvement with the hiring of Coughlin that he did with the hiring of McAdoo and Shurmur. He was also wise enough to retain Coughlin when everybody was calling for his head. So it's not like he can't make a good decision; he just badly missed on the last two (and arguably on the GM hire as well, which puts the team into a very bad hole).
McAdoo's offense was among the least creative ever seen.
Tom in NY : 11/10/2019 9:17 pm : link
They were in 3 wides, 1 RB, 90% of the time and if not for OBJ's heroics in '16 that team would have finished no better than 8-8 (Baltimore, Dallas, NO).
Don't let time change facts, McAdoo had NO ability to lead men, and very little to no interest in the defense. Along with his simple offense, that is not the equation of a good HC.
As bad as Shurmur is,
Red Dog : 11/10/2019 9:31 pm : link
and he's been really bad, McAdoo was THE WORST NYG head coach I have ever seen, and I go back 65 years or so.
McAdoo had a good defense for which he can take no credit at all

He designed an offense not to lose.
