Nick Gates vs Mike Remmers

Ira : 11/11/2019 5:14 am
I know it's not a very high bar, but I'm wondering if Gates could take the starting spot away from Remmers. I'm not very good at analyzing individual offensive linemen when watching a game, so I'm wondering what other bbiers thought.
NY Giants Rumors: Nick Gates Could Be The Starter Moving Forward - ( New Window )
I didnt notice a
Dankbeerman : 11/11/2019 5:33 am : link
difference in the tackle play today. could have played equal. I did feel like Pulley was worse then Pio though.

Bye week is the time for wholesale changes as we are at 8 losses they cant even hang on to making a run. Let the youth take their lumps.

Keep in mind he was playing the Jets.
Not sure who or how many lineman were at fault but

Jones was under a lot pf pressure yesterday (6 sacks) and we couldn't run the ball.So which one sucks the most is a good question.
Just from watching live

I thought Gates was better than Remmers. I'll have to go back and re-watch on All 22. I would move forward with Gates. He's only 23 so at least you can see what he's got and maybe he turns into a good RT? It would really help the OL and would be one less position we need to fill in the offseason.
Only saw first half but...

Gates did look better. Looked more stout. When your back goes everything goes. I just don't think Remmers is healthy at all.
even before Solder left
giants#1 : 11/11/2019 7:03 am : link
the OL looked far worse than they had. On top of the pressure, Barkley averaged <1 ypc and had no space to run.
After all these years

Of watching horrible football it was clear the leaders HAD to get the OL fixed. They didn’t. I don’t care if they drafted wrong - signed crap FAs- they failed miserably - we even went without drafting a single OL if my memory serves me correctly - it is hard to be that bad at drafting - signing and coaching one position for almost 8 years.
The only difference I noted was the first guy to hit
Jimmy Googs : 11/11/2019 7:21 am : link
Saquon was usually 2.5 yards behind the LOS versus the usual 2 yards...
Gates was ok
ryanmkeane : 11/11/2019 7:41 am : link
Brown was bad. Pulley was bad.

What s even more disturbing is that the present and past regimes spent a lot of resources to fix it. I agree though, into it is fixed, the losing will continue
The only lineman..
FatMan in Charlotte : 11/11/2019 8:07 am : link
who had any push in the running game was Hernandez, and even he got crushed a few times.

The Giants tried to run right several times, with no room at all. Gates was getting manhandled.
its just become insanely predictable
hitdog42 : 11/11/2019 8:12 am : link
there is zero threat in the passing game despite Slayton emerging- which makes running shot gun draw and shot gun draw as the 2 main plays a bit of a joke.
maybe adapt and pull some guys or do something fking different.

id rather see GAtes then remmers as gates can maybe be a swing guy in the future where remmers just sucks and costs more
...
christian : 11/11/2019 8:17 am : link
I'd like to see all the young guys, including Gates get reps the 2nd half of the year.

Remmers isn't going to be a New York Giants next year. There's virtually nothing to gain with him in the lineup.
Barkley had
RollBlue : 11/11/2019 8:22 am : link
13 carries for 1 yard, makes Perkins 3 carries for 2 yards look he was touched by the hand of God...
Gates
Giants : 11/11/2019 8:32 am : link
Was upgrade at RT. The left side of the OL was trash
The
AcidTest : 11/11/2019 8:51 am : link
results speak for themselves. Barkley had no room to run, and was frequently met in the backfield. Jones was hammered regularly. None were impressive, or even adequate, except for Hernandez. Gates and Smith both had a lot of trouble protecting the edge, and couldn't move anyone off the LOS. The OL is still terrible after two FA and draft classes.
I don't think he did any better or worse
Simms11 : 11/11/2019 9:07 am : link
I think there's no difference in play. Pulley also is not good at run blocking and got pushed back as well. Pulley is a little better then Pio at pass blocking however.

Is time to call him a dissapointment?

He's no Chris Snee, who was a second round pick himself.

I know Sy took another option at that pick...how is that pick doing?
Barkley Was Contacted at or Behind LoS
clatterbuck : 11/11/2019 11:56 am : link
11 out of 13 carries. Seems to say a lot about the offensive line.
the Jets came in
giants#1 : 11/11/2019 12:02 pm : link
with 11 sacks in 8 games. They had 8 sacks yesterday. I get wanting to see what you have in the young guys, but there's no way to argue the OL yesterday was better than its been.
Remmers back is an issue
bc4life : 11/11/2019 12:12 pm : link
which probably means that it never completely healed or stopped being an issue. He'll be gone after this year.
The problem with "pass to run"
idiotsavant : 11/11/2019 12:13 pm : link
Is that when you cannot run, you cannot pass. For obvious reasons as to the D fronts modality once they establish you cannot run.

The benefit of "run to pass" is that you can revert to running. You run so you -can- pass.
What I noticed was this:
George : 11/11/2019 12:13 pm : link
Barkley, 13 carries, 1 yard.

There was NO upgrade on the OL yesterday. None. It was much, much worse than the pile of garbage we've seen in action for the last seven years.

Halapio, Remmers, and Solder are better than the guys who replaced them yesterday, which isn't saying much - those three have to go by January 3.
It's even more glaring with
idiotsavant : 11/11/2019 12:14 pm : link
The minimized off season and practices of today.
