Sad to hear. First of the Millen trio of top 10 receivers. He had a commercial for ESPN the Magazine or something that still pops into my head occasionally, “I’m Charles Rogers..” then listed his catches and touchdowns.

like the word racism.. Rogers was not a clean guy and never got away from that lifestyle no matter how much money he made.
Nobody knows. From what I remember of that time, which might be lacking, he supposedly took some vicious hits and then really started getting weird and acting highly irrationally.
was a drug abuser before he even entered the NFL. He had red flags all over the place, which is part of the reason Millen took so much crap for the pick (along with it not being a position of need).
Reserve the CTE comments for the players who deserve it. The Dave Duerson's of the world who can recognize their once sane minds are going to shit.

So you're saying that CTE is only for the good guys and if you were a troublemaker before joining the NFL there's no possibility of you getting CTE. Charles Rodgers could have been a real shit bag I don't know him and don't really care. However him being the shittiest of human beings doesn't mean that he couldn't have been suffering from CTE.
mean he couldn't have been suffering from CTE. It also doesn't mean it becomes the default assumption.
People look for a smoking gun. How many posts have we seen about Antonio Brown's behavior becoming strange after the hit he took by Burfict? Almost accepted now as fact. Except that he was acting oddly as far back as high school. He blew off classes his entire senior year. Couldn't get accepted into FSU, for what they said were academic reasons! Got kicked out of college for menacing a security guard.
Charles Rogers was heavily using drugs in college. His work ethic was terrible. The initial conclusion shouldn't be that he had CTE - it should be that he had other issues that contributed to his addiction, his lack of preparedness and his continued run-ins with people.
It would be like LT killing himself tomorrow and people speculating that his CTE caused him to be a schmuck his entire life.
the draft is a crap shoot and even if it was a position of need, WR @ #2 overall will always be scrutinized (like RB).
but man, watching Rogers play in college I was sure he was going to be an NFL star.
I'm sure there are players, who had better stats and played more than 2 years in college, but as someone who watched a lot of college ball back then, he was among the most dominant WR's I've ever seen.
size, speed, hands, versatility, athleticism, you name it, he had it.

One conclusion is just as ill-informed as the other, but this idea that certain players don't "deserve" the benefit of presuming a CTE affliction is a silly one. We don't know any of these people off of the field, or the status of their health.

See I look at it the other way. In "today land" there are no assholes or idiots, there are only good guys and then those that have CTE.
He was such a talented WR prospect. I was always an Andre Johnson guy since college because of his ridiculous athleticism and the fact that I enjoyed watching Miami play at the time, he was just a beast and proved it in the NFL.
But there’s a reason that Rogers was taken at #2, one pick ahead of Johnson and considered the best WR prospect in the draft at the time by most draft analysts despite his off-field issues. This guy was really really good at MSU. Probably had the edge on Johnson in terms of downfield speed and definitely had the better hands as prospects.
Sucks that he had so many issues over his life and career. Just really sad to see this thread after not thinking about this guy for a decade.
Such a catchy commercial lol

On the field, he was as talented a WR prospect I have ever seen. He reminded me of Randy Moss. Such a waste of talent and life. Very sad.
