While the fumbles have obviously been a huge issue for DJ in his rookie year, I think we should be more excited about all the good, and hopeful this is cleaned up. As of now, he's at 13 fumbles. But he isn't alone...
Look at some of the fumbling numbers by other QBs, and how they fared in years 2, 3, 4, etc..
Warren Moon - 17, 12, 11, 8
Andrew Luck - 10, 6
Bernie Kosar - 14, 7, 2
Lamar Jackson - 12, 4
Carson Wentz - 14, 9
This can be fixed.
Right now, the biggest problem is coaching ... at all positions except special teams.
My concerns for DJ long-term are the hits he exposes himself to when he scrambles and the coaching carousel that will surely be a part of his early career. Oh, and can we please find someone to build an offensive line? I am sick and tired of watching an offense that cannot run block or pass protect.
The guy is trying to do too much right now. His WRs on a good day are average. Its a problem when a Bennie Fowler is receiving significant playing time. Yes the fumbles are bad but yesterday he was getting mugged, I am surprised he didnt fumble more. The positives are all there yet people want to focus on the fumbles. Tiki barber had a terrible fumbling problem and he was able to get it fixed.
It has to be a focal point of the offseason and I think DJ will take care of it even before the minicamps begin. He is a guy from all reports that works to get better. I have no doubt that it will get better.
I dont get why he gets such a pass from giants fans while jones plays well and still gets criticized and dissected non stop
The majority of his fumbles have been from not feeling the pressure or not seeing it coming at him.

Barely a peep about Barkley??
You have had a few morons saying he's nearing bust status after yesterday.
From your post, I'm gathering that you might want to join that group of forward thinkers.
Good Luck, Champ....

I agree with your take on Barkley not playing well, however, I do believe that he is playing hurt.
He hesitates and is an unwilling blocker - two traits that were not a part of his game prior to the high ankle.
Ya he's been getting crushed. I actually think Eli would of gotten hurt by now.
Plus, if the pass protection ever gets passable, even if he doesn't get better at it, the issue lessens.

and once again barely a peep about barkley who has 29 rushing yards combined the last 2 games, showed terrible effort last week not going after that ball that was returned for a TD, and is a total shitshow as a pass protector and directly caused jones 2 fumbles.

He very well could still be hurt. But if that is the case, then why is he out there ? He is not helping himself or the team being out there and playing like this so both shurmur and barkley should have been honest about the situation and let gallman get the bulk of the playing time instead .

I understand we are all miserable and sick and tired of the season being over by Halloween every year .. but let's enjoy SOME of it! DJ is a gem!

My favorite play from yesterday's game was the short TD to Tate. On that play:
- Jones is looking for Ellison crossing, but he was blaketed
- He then looks to the middle and can't find an open receiver
- He sees Tate post up and throws the TD
It was all made possible by him standing in the pocket and the OL giving him time to make reads and throw. He didn't panic nor use the previous pressure he's seen to rush the play.
If we can get a OL that gives time, these are the plays we will come to expect, much like we see when QB's like Rodgers or Brees have time to throw.
He went about doing his job, while he trusted his vaunted teammate, who should have had physical advantage, to do his.
A good mature QB does not give up on that play.
The majority of his fumbles have been from not feeling the pressure or not seeing it coming at him.
Isn't that the point tho? Wouldn't you think the aforementioned QB's had the same problems in their first year?
I agree, that his awareness in the pocket is a problem, but it's got to give you some hope that it is mainly a first year QB thing, rather than a Daniel Jones thing.
On the other hand, there’s times when you see these flashes of ability that amaze and astound. It’s interesting because ball security is really the only hole we’re seeing in Jones game. This should tell us everything we need to know about the importance of ball security because it’s the only thing about this kid that worries any of us. Time will tell.
He's a rookie, but I'm actually surprised that he hasn't shown more improvement in that area by this point - especially with Eli, who's strength is pre snap, as a mentor.
I'm hopeful year two will be much better in that regard, but I am a bit disappointed with that aspect of Daniel Jones' game thus far.

I would be more dismayed if there were other red flags, but as a fan, I feel like it's easy to be patient when we have a QB who seems to be having a lot of success on 3rd downs, something Eli had been struggling with over the last few years. Over and over, we've seen Jones move the chains on third and long, and that's gotta count for something.
I will take the good with the bad with the hope that the bad will improve.
He has that cool hand unflappable thing going, he can run and he can really put the ball in a catchable spot. He ripped one in traffic on the first TD.
He has taken some real shots though and he has to stop fumbling literally every game. That has to stop and is not as maddening now since he is a rookie and the Giants lose so much those fumbles get caught in the wash.
that has caused some fumbles this year. A quarterback has to be able to do that to succeed.
If he gets hit from the blind side, hard not to fumble at times.
The one yesterday, all on Barkley, he has been a piss poor pass blocker in recent weeks!
You can't just stick a shoulder in there for a block,
not good enough, and not acceptable.
Jackson was 8.

Rosas and DeOssie suck too.

that need correcting. It is the recognition of the pressure and not making mistakes once the throwing motion starts.
