Matt Rhule For HC

DeepBlueJint : 11/11/2019 9:35 am
I have followed Rhule's career ever since he was a linebacker at "Linebacker U" Penn State. He was a true student athlete, that is more than just sports. He has a Masters in Educational Psychology. These are good foundations for coaching.

He coached at Albright, Buffalo, UCLA, Western Carolina and of course Temple and presently Baylor. He coached DL, LB, ST, TE, OL, RC, and was an AHC as well He was assistant OL Coach for the 2012 Super Bowl Champs Giants. Point here: Aside from QB, he is well versed across the board on all phases of coaching positions. He is also quite good at building a strong coaching staff around him. I've watched him on the sidelines. He knows how to motivate players and if necessary kick butt.

Look at the success of his graduates getting into the NFL: Jalen Hurd, Derrek Thomas, Mat Ioanndis, Tavon Young, Hasson Riddick, Dion Dawkins to name a few.

He successfully reestablished to Division I programs at Temple and at Baylor. I personally witnessed his team's defeat of PSU which hadn't happened in several decades.

This guy reminds me a lot of Parcells. He is my vote for HC.
He’s a New York guy too

Doesn’t really matter but it’s a plus in my mind. He seems like a true head coach and program builder.
Huge Fan

He absolutely can't be worse than McAdope or Murmur.
I like much of what I know of him

What I don't know is the following:

1) What's his offensive and defensive scheme preference?

2) Is he "connected" well enough to assemble a good staff?
He was the Jets first choice

as head coach but they wanted to pick his assistants for him and he told them No Thanks
I like his background...

A good call bro!
He is on my shortlist as well

He's a HEAD COACH, not a "offensive guru" or a "qb whispers" or whatever. He builds winners.
Well I know he switched Baylor this year, went to 3/4 instead of

multiple so at least he shows the ability to adapt.
How many threads are we going to have on this subject?

One cause for concern I have is that, in recent years, except for Pete Carroll no NCAA head coach has come to the NFL and had sustained success. Considering that you have a lot of one or two year starters in the college game, many opposing players are only seeing his schemes once. In the pro game you are facing divisional opponents twice in one year. How will he adapt to that?

How many Offensive and Defensive Guru's turn out to be bad head coaches? Most of them. I'm all for a CEO type head coach that builds a program.

Easier said than done at the pro level versus college game
I don’t think he would come

These coaches are making so much money the best ones stay in college

Could be an issue here. Hot prospects, or ones with a solid college gig, want a good amount of say. HC do have say with the Giants, but the GM and Maras have as much or more, especially combined. It's why the Giants HC position isn't the top of the charts dream job many BBIers think it is.
I like his defensive roots and broad spectrum of experience
Torrag : 11/11/2019 10:29 am : link
He'd be a top candidate.
Really good article. Sounds like exactly what we need.

I have a strong feeling that he's gonna be our next H.C.

Either next year or the year after that.
I don’t know

much about him but on the surface I’d be okay with them hiring him, especially over someone like McCarthy which I’d not be enthusiastic about. He turned around two programs which is a good sign to me. It was not a great year but he coached under Coughlin for one year as well so the Giants are also already familiar with him which Mara will obviously like. Former player and has coached pretty much every position at some point. Aside from Belichick being a miraculous hire from Dreamland, Kubiak is the other interesting candidate but I’d be afraid of him dying on the sideline.
Isn't kubiac another wco guy?

Fuck that if so?
You make a good argument

Sounds like Rhule rules!
Dont know a lot about him
Josh in the City : 11/11/2019 12:09 pm : link
but like him based on my limited knowledge. I just hope Mara doesn't delay the inevitable with Shurmur by making a chance at one or both of the coordinator positions.
Open up the Brinks truck

Yup, lot to like about him. It’s also fair to assume he’ll get plenty of feelers/interview opps if he wants to take them, and other jobs may be more appealing than the Giants and their arcane management structure.
hes signed through 2027
TommytheElephant : 11/11/2019 12:38 pm : link
how much is that buyout going to cost?
My choice as well
BigBlue2112 : 11/11/2019 12:38 pm : link
. Give him whatever he wants. Turn this ship around just like he did with Temple and Baylor
