Is a fan protest/boycott a viable option

Maijay : 11/11/2019 10:19 am
to help bring about change? As a season ticket holder and long time Giant fan I am frustrated about the plight of our team. Season ticket holders can not show up to remaining games but not sell or give away your tickets. A visual of empty seats should send a clear message to management that horrible teams will not be tolerated. If that is too extreme and you go to the game boycott all concessions. Hit them in the pocketbook.

I know this is pure frustration on my part but I feel I have to do something to vent my sadness about my beloved Giants . I've been a devoted fan since the Frank Gifford and Y. A. Tittle era and I'm literally putting my money where my mouth is. I hope that the rantings of an old fan resonates with some of you on BBI.
After "the fumble", I wrote a letter to Wellington essentially

saying what you need is an empty stadium and we might see a winner. He wrote back (in his own hand writing which he always did) "I can't say that I disagree with your assessment". Maybe that is your answer.
I'm a season ticket holder

why should I pass up the chance to recoup my shitty investment and resell my tickets?

Mara has his money either way, sure it won't look good but that's not a hill I'd want to die on, especially since this 'boycott' won't garner much traction...too much money involved for too many people.

I'm as mad as anyone, but eating the tickets would just be insult to injury.

Your Tix to opposing team's fans. This will send a louder message then not showing up and you will recoup some $$. After all, it's a business.
I get being pissed

at ownership and the product on the field but why would I further my frustration by pissing away thousands of dollars by not attending or not selling my tickets? Makes no sense.
I voiced my opinions in a survey they sent me after the Cowboys game on Monday night. And I told them to feel free to contact me.
60,000 Eagle fans at MetLife on Dec. 29 would send a clear message.

Unfortunately, clarity doesn’t matter much in the absence of competence. Unless you expect the League to step in again, as Rozelle did 40 years ago, what will the Maras do differently? They know the team has stunk for seven years. They know the fans are pissed off. They know PSL holders feel swindled. They know the reserve of good will the family built up before Welly died has been depleted.

What do you actually want? A complete housecleaning, and a purge of all the in-house, loyalist hires like Gettleman and the scouting staff? A complete tear down, followed by a rebuild around Jones, might be refreshing. Just bear in mind that it will take time, and it still might not yield better results.
By the way, I don’t like Gettleman at all.

I’m just realistic about the possibility that the next regime might be just as bad. I figure he gets one more year, with ample cap space and a year of experience for his young roster.

The Williams trade was a head-scratcher, though. It sure looks like a panic move by a GM who needs a quick win. If LW isn’t re-signed, and doesn’t yield a comp pick because the Giants have to spend the money somewhere, that will close the book on Gettleman for me. And re-signing him might not be any better, since Williams’s people know the Giant need to retain him to justify the trade.
I m pretty certain Mara knows the fans aren’t happy

I also believe he wants to win more than any of us.

That's my take as well. Obviously, things are going to change it's just a matter of what will change and when will it change that is in question
He paid attention to the fan uproar

Back in the day ticket costs were small but the price tag today is a tough pill.

Recall siting next to a rival fan last season who had the same type of tickets elsewhere in his stadium for approx a third the cost.

The could have done so much more sharing the stadium with the Jests. The list is long will not bother.

It used to feel like a privilege, an honor to be a season Tix holder. Not we are getting mover charged in a second stadium, with a garage product on the field. Who should they improve would result in being charged higher tix prices.

Used to frown, then sad for on those that game up the tix , in some ways I feel your anger and pain.

Are you a long time lurker/first time poster. I think BBI would be well served if you chimed in more often. Thanks.

I think this is a great idea personally. I don't see any real traction coming from a boycott, I mean how do you organize that and what about all the many people that aren't BBI, and so on? But lining the seats with fans of the opposing teams, like Chargers games, would be a massive embarrassment. Massive.

posted long time ago and my account went bye-bye. Just signed up again and was reluctant to post but I'm sick of sitting in that shitty stadium and being subjected god awful football. I had to vent and was appreciative of the responses I read.
