Darnold vs. Barkley

BrettNYG10 : 11/11/2019 10:28 am
Barkely: 13 carries, 1 yard, 0.07692307692 YPC.

Darnold: 3 carries, 25 yards, 8.33 YPC, 1 rushing TD.

Something to think about.
Makes you wonder if Barkley stole

Darnold’s sixth sense.

I know he was hurt and the o line sucks still, but Barkley sure is living out the Sophomore slump, we should pump brakes on the "best in NFL" or "bound for Canton" talk.

Already dinged, a loss in pass protection, slow to the point of attack. 13 rushes for 1 is one him too.

Jones was our leading rusher as well.

Maybe a couple less commercials, and a little more film study would help too!
It's obvious he didn't do any pass blocking at Penn State, just pathetic in pass blocking.
Should've traded

I like Barkley, but I nervous when players are made out to be the second coming withiut a lot of accomplishments over time.

This season Barkley not having a major, positive, impact on games has been a big problem.

Please see the Field Yates thread. Barkley had -13 yards rushing before contact. He was hit behind the line of scrimmage on 11 of 13 runs. That's not on all or even mostly on him.
Another stupid thread that uses stats to make a

a release valve has been opened regarding Barkley. I think most fans intuitively understand that taking a running back with the second pick in the draft considering the state of the roster at the time was the wrong thing to do and have been disappointed in the results that have followed that selection. However, given Barkley's good statistical results to date, most have stayed quiet or been extremely measured in any criticism ("we all agree he's a generational talent, but..."). However, now with Barkley's statistical results matching the overall team results, the flood gates seem to have opened. In a few years, when Gettleman is gone and Barkley is either retired or a shell of himself playing on some other team, you will not be able to find a Giants fan who will admit having approved of the selection.
Maybe we should look

a few of Barkley's good games and compare to some of Darnold's bad games? That seems fair. Otherwise it's all bullshit.

get off the media driven taken too early "second pick running back" nonsense too. From what I've seen so far, I'd take the media narrative of "taken too early" Jones over Darnold anyway. Does Darnold and a pass rusher make the Giants better than they are now, or can be, without a front line running back? Not in my opinion. Both would be bad teams. Might better worry about getting receivers that get separation, lineman who can block, linebackers who can impact, and DBs who can cover. QB and RB are not the real problems with this team. The and DL are about the only positions with a chance.

Maybe we should have taken Darnold and played him at RB instead since he is obviously better at running the ball than Barkley.

You are exactly right. I didn't like the film I saw on him from Penn State and feared he would bust because he looked like a very big scatback type unwilling to run between tackles. But he had a few big games last year and that changed my mind. This season teams will not let him bounce outside and he looks lost.Right now Gallman is hitting hole better and is a much better blocker. Need to send Barkley to the bench. Let him return kicks and play special teams until he earns another shot at RB .

He is still headed to the HOF.

Grow up.

Saying someone is headed to the HOF after two years in the NFL, and only one of those years it's good - and you're telling someone else to grow up?

It's like people forgot the Beckham experience. People were comparing Beckham to LT and Jerry Rice.

The one constant in the NFL is change.

wow. Comments like this make me smh. Same people are probably saying Beckham sucks. (While I am not a fan of the theatrics, Beckham is a tremendous athlete and beyond talented). Ali was the greatest of all time. If he fought with his hands tied he’d get his ass whupped. Barkley is playing with a severe handicap. He doesn’t have the O-Line that Elliott has. He doesn’t play for a potent offense like Kamara does. You’ve seen what this kid is capable of and he hasn’t had any real damage to his body to speak of. He’s not the problem. But yeah, let’s run him out of town because Darnold had ONE good game against a POS defense run by a terrible DC that couldn’t stop a truck if the wheels fell off. Sure. It’s Barkley’s fault.
Dear OP
SuperGiantMan : 11/11/2019 3:32 pm : link
No it's not. It's nothing to think about. You can potentially make the argument that trading down would have been smart, but Darnold is a big, fat waste. I would be straight up miserable every day if he was the Giants starting QB for the foreseeable future, he and his 76.6 career rating. He's awful and so are all the other QBs that were taken after him. Saquon is awesome... it's obvious he's hurt and has no line and is discouraged, but before he was hurt he was ripping off 60-yard runs and no one complained about shit. Ever. Not with his play.
