There’s a noticeable delay in Jones’ release.

TC : 11/11/2019 11:22 am
I noticed this yesterday, not a hitch in the throwing motion, but like an extra count between when he selects a target, and when he actually unloads. He often had a pretty quick release in earlier games, and was willing to throw into very tight windows, sometimes with not very good results.

My hope is that this is a positive sign of development with him seeing the defense better, and double checking his read before letting it go. And I think it’s reasonable to expect that as he better learns the NFL game, this process will accelerate. So I’ll view it as a potential positive. But right now, it’s sometimes screwing up the timing between Jones and the receiver.
He’s probably thinking

How the hell am I going to fit this throw into a microscopic window since my receiver gets zero separation?
this goes back to his draft analysis

that he would pat the ball one or two extra times before letting it rip.

Doesn't seem to be hindering him greatly but perhaps an area of improvement.
I love Jones but

He holds the ball too long, doesn’t feel the rush. He is trying to make plays, mostly playing from behind and with no running game lately. So the deck is stacked against him, but this is an area where improvement is needed. This will eventually determine his ceiling, either as an above average QB or a top 10 QB. We really need to see how he develops with a solid OL.
Jones has been great

But you're right and this was one of the knocks on him in college. Slow release of the ball and it contributes to the fumbling.
His ball placement is amazing, though....

one of his best attributes. Wouldn't want to mess with that.
Some of its waiting for the route to develop

Which works better with real runs and play action.
He lets it rip really fast when being tackled

just kidding

Excellent evaluation

Yep.

Fix the damn line.
His WRs are just never wide open
Rudy5757 : 11/11/2019 11:49 am : link
its hard to tell if it is on him or just guys not being open at all. When Eli was in his prime early on in the game we would throw a deep pass down the field. that seemed to open things up for the deep threat. We dont do that and havent for a long time.

Our WRs have a tough time getting open on these short routes. seems like every throw is contested no matter which WR is out there. Slayton is our speed WR but it seems that the longer the pass the less awareness he has. I am not saying to just chuck it up, but the long sideline pass needs to be put in to stretch the field.

I think his timing will be better when the WR corp gets better. He is making guys look better but they just dont have the talent. Bennie Fowler moves like a big TE rather than a WR. Tate is our best WRs and a solid #2. Latimer is supposed to be our #2 and had 0 catches yesterday. I like Slayton and he should be our #3 this year but he is now our #1.

It's called uncertainty.
"The greatest improvement a QB makes is between their 1st and 2nd year

as a starter."
That quote has been attributed to quite a few analysts, but I believe it started with Bill Walsh.
Jones has some issues to improve upon during the off season, and I'm quite certain his coaches (whomever they may be) will see the same things, and probably more than we can.
He also may be hesitating a bit because of the
CT Charlie : 11/11/2019 1:18 pm : link
number of passes that have been tipped or knocked down by D-linemen. Consciously or subconsciously, he could be trying to find a window in the line or letting a lineman jump up and then come down
ironically......
thrunthrublue : 11/11/2019 1:24 pm : link
there is no delay from the moment he receives snap, to when he's being pile driven into the ground, relentlessly.
Shroomur is doing his best to David Carr DJ8
Coach Red Beaulieu : 11/11/2019 1:34 pm : link
We should be running a conservative run heavy/PA gameplan for our rookie QB like Russell Wilson. Even Kingsbury realizes it.
Same ole
Simms : 11/11/2019 1:49 pm : link
Same ole woes when Eli was QB.

WR could not create space
No running game
suspect defense
Hot and cold OL play.

I like Jones don't ruin the kid before its the same ole. Jones is smart enough to adjust with proper coaching.

Honestly have no positive on vibe on our HC.
Hope Jones can last during his tenure.
