Buy, Sell or Hold - offensive starters

gary_from_chester : 11/11/2019 12:34 pm
Just a stab at gauging how many holes we need to fill to be competitive. This is irrespective of monetary considerations. Just starters for now.

LT Nate Solder - Sell. No comments needed.
LG Will Hernandez - Buy. Pit bull who should keep improving.
C Jon Halapio - Sell. I am not a film guy, but seems like there is a lot of middle penetration.
RG Kevin Zeitler - Hold. Injuries and time may be taking a toll.
RT Mike Remmers - Sell. Doesn’t do any one thing well.

QB Daniel Jones - Buy. Have seen enough to think potential ceiling is high.
RB Saquon Barkley - Buy. Get healthy kid, and stop tip toeing to the hole.

TE Evan Enbram - Sell. Oft injured, poor blocker, talented but has dropsies.
WR Golden Tate - Hold. Solid player, need to shore up other areas.
WR Sterling Shepard - Sell. Like the player, but injuries taking a toll. Need more speed at the position.
WR Darius Slayton - Buy. Like him as a #2 or #3 receiver, arrow pointing up.

4 buys, 5 sells, 2 holds

Not surprising conclusion is OL is biggest area of need. Really need 2 in the next draft IMO, along with an impact rusher.

May do tne same thread for defense if this is at all useful or interesting based on responses.

OL

and WR. At least 2 OL and one additional WR worth their salt are needed.
Like the analysis except...
Coopcomic : 11/11/2019 12:38 pm : link
With this stuff (including coaches) -- it has to be asked: 'as opposed to what?'. With your breakdown, it's replace him (which is fine) but then what is the money, who is filling that slot, and how...and meanwhile, Defense & O-line will be the priorities.
Special LT and Edge can only be drafted in 1st RD
George from PA : 11/11/2019 12:39 pm : link
FA can find a RT.

Can get lucky with WR to replace Shepard if needed.

Having 2 centers....mean you have none....maybe in 2nd RD of draft.
Agree. The problem with the ‘sells’ is that you won’t get much.
Big Blue Blogger : 11/11/2019 12:41 pm : link
Engram is a possible exception. Shepard is a huge gamble with a big contract. The rest are worthless or free agents.

The really tricky one is Barkley. By the time the Giants assemble a real line, he’ll be old by RB standards, and the GM who anointed him will likely be gone. The team has one-fifth of its future OL in place. Maybe Zeitler bounces back... maybe.
If we had Shepard, Tate and Slayton on the field together
BillT : 11/11/2019 12:42 pm : link
You wouldn't be selling on Shepard. Hate to see the concussions but he's a talented WR.
I guess what I am thinking
gary_from_chester : 11/11/2019 12:45 pm : link
Is that on a good team you will have no more than 1 or 2 sells on your starting roster, and the number of buys vs the number of holds determines how close you are to being a top 3 type of team. With the number of sells on offense we may still be a couple of years away on that side of the ball.
I did not see

Any tip toeing to a hole yesterday. He was hit by three people, behind the line of scrimmage, on almost every play.

That’s what I saw as well. No hole.. not even a little hole.
Saw it differently
gary_from_chester : 11/11/2019 12:51 pm : link
Line blocking sucked, and they had penetration but he was hesitating and not hitting the hole in my view. Sometimes you hit and fall forward for another yard or two when tnat is all there is. He seems tentative since the injury.
There going to go with Hernandez for the next
RollBlue : 11/11/2019 12:54 pm : link
2 years regardless, but his play has been disappointing. Maybe getting an average Center will help, don't know.
Also, why sell
RollBlue : 11/11/2019 12:56 pm : link
on Engram, his played in as many games as Barkley this year, and Barkley's blocking is worse. Give me a competent coaching staff prior to selling Engram.
Hernandez
Marty866b : 11/11/2019 12:58 pm : link
Has been disappointing. Lacks good lateral movement to be a good pass blocker and he hasn't exactly been a road grader in the run game. That said, he's among the least of our problems. We need three new offensive lineman that can play at a high level. Need a new GM to find them.
With this group, a good coach could be at least .500 ...
Spider56 : 11/11/2019 12:59 pm : link
With nincampoops and nitwits you get 2-8.
BTW, Spencer Pulley is a bigger sell than Halapio.
Big Blue Blogger : 11/11/2019 12:59 pm : link
He makes more money, he’s awful, and unlike Halapio he has a multi-year deal. The only plus is his versatility: he’s equally awful at multiple positions.
At this point, it's probably better to
phil in arizona : 11/11/2019 1:29 pm : link
sabotage the team jet and collect the insurance money.
...
ryanmkeane : 11/11/2019 1:38 pm : link
We need a center, left tackle, right tackle. Outside of that we are fine...

What game are you watching ? He tiptoes to line and STOPS as soon as ball is given to him. You can't run thru any tackles when your momentum is gone. If he just hits the line at full speed and falls forward he would have positive yardage. If he needs the Dallas OL to be effective he is on the wrong team.
How is Saquon going to fall forward when DLineman (who have
Zeke's Alibi : 11/11/2019 2:52 pm : link
anywhere between 30-100 lbs on him) are the ones getting penetration into the backfield. If it was linebackers thats one thing, but fucking dlineman are getting into the backfield every fucking run down. I swear some people are fucking retarded.
There is a thing called patience as a RB, the guys that just slam into
Zeke's Alibi : 11/11/2019 2:54 pm : link
the line suck, the issue is the holes. There are way too many guys here that spout off about shit they have no idea what they are talking about. The difference right now is Saquon is hurt, so those explosive runs are gone, as well as making the first man miss every single time. I'm starting to think people have a unicorn idea what a good RB looks like.

You are insinuating that our Online was getting a push yesterday. You clearly did not watch. Again, 11 of 13 carries he was hit behind the line of scrimmage by multiple black jerseys, how can he fall forward for positive yards?
