Giants appear to have an inordinately high # of concussions

plato : 11/11/2019 5:12 pm
this half a season. ARe there data available as to other teams? if this is a high number, did our helmets change? Other equipment or technical issues? Are our doctors too sensitive to the diagnosis so we have a high false positive rate? or do other teams have false negative rate? Or is just the number high throughout league.

it just seems something is amiss here in Giant land.
Honestly, and this may be insensitive,

but I think if we weren't a dumpster fire, Solder, Ellison, and Jenkins wouldn't have put themselves in the protocol.

Now if I'm wrong, I'll rescind this, but I don't remember seeing them called off by the independent doctor.

guys are trying to be like Rosas and play with a unbuckled chin strap.
Quite honestly, the way this team has functioned

over the past several years I think we have way more concussions than are treated...
a good percentage of life long fans....

have also been in the loser protocol all season. this condition may continue till new leadership is installed.
or was Jets DC Williams headhunting Sunday as it looked to me on a #

of Jets defensive plays that refs didn’t call or just missed?
Bad teams get the shit kicked out of them, this is nothing new.

I feel like I have a concussion too.
Hmm, maybe the Giants
section125 : 11/11/2019 6:22 pm : link
are better at diagnosing possible concussions?
Assertions with zero data ...

"Giants appear have an inordinate number of concussion". You don't know if this is true or not, you have no data for 2019 vis a vis other teams. So, the Giants may have a lot of concussions, or they may not.

Next, others falsely assume the premise is true, and make up sure fire explanations of the non-phenomenon. Bad teams get beaten up by good teams, for example.

These data are old, but they are actual data. The Giants are below the league average in terms of concussions over the study period, and there is no evidence that good or bad teams are clustered near the top or the bottom.

I meant injuries in general pile up on shittier teams, when you are
Zeke's Alibi : 11/11/2019 6:45 pm : link
imposing your will on other teams you tend to stay healthier overall and I'd assume concussions fall into that mix. That is some interesting data, though the sample size is a bit small and most the teams seem like they fit into what would be considered normal standard deviation.
Expect a lot more

Honestly, I would be fine if I never see Engram, Shepard, and possibly Beal take the field in NY ever again. (If Beal makes it to the end without getting injured I will remove his name from this list.)
Maybe they smack each

other in the back of the head Everytime they suck. Really adds up with this team.

these guys absolutely earn every cent they make. It has to be demoralizing to be risking your well-being every Sunday when the team is dead in the water at 2-8.

In defense of the OP, he said the NYG appear to have...
The data you cite is from 2013 forward. I share the OPs observation that this year the team has an extraordinary number of players in the protocol; regardless if this is good or bad.

Best comment I’ve read on BBI in a long time. Kudos!
We need Joe Skiba back

It’s probably the equipment managers fault. The helmets need to be fitted properly and checked quite often. I’ve seen a few players have their helmet pop right off.
The giants are getting their ass kicked every week
djm : 11/11/2019 10:32 pm : link
This is what happens when you get knocked the fuck out. Bad teams get beat up.
Contrary to popular thought and what the league promotes
Matt M. : 11/12/2019 7:40 am : link
helmets do very little to prevent most concussions. If you get hit on your head or your head slams to the turf, a helmet, any of the helmets, is not doing anything. Your brain is still getting slammed into your skull, which is what causes the concussion in the first place. The helmet also doesn't prevent you brain from rattling into your skull on most hits, which means long term effects, including GET, are still just as likely.
That said, a properly fitted helmet is better
Matt M. : 11/12/2019 7:47 am : link
than an I'll fitting one. But, there is no evidence to suggest the team does not properly fit their helmets.
Can you say business decision.

Imagine you are Nate Solder and you suck balls like a whore on the old west side, side but you charge your customers more than the Madam at a Bunny Ranch. You know its not going to end well, so you conveniently find an STD so you can sit out for a few before your pimp realizes that you can't earn him any money and he takes your crack pipe and blows you up.

It's like that.
