DeAndre Baker should be benched

Junior22 : 11/12/2019 11:55 am
Is one thing to struggle in coverage as a rookie but lack of effort is inexcusable

Check out Dan Duggans tweet about Bakers lack of hustle on a long pass play vs Jets.

I blame coaching for this nonsense
Baker - ( New Window )
This shit should be pinned, fucking inexcusable, and I'm starting
Zeke's Alibi : 11/12/2019 12:05 pm : link
to think DG should go to. What happened to culture? You trade up into the first to draft a guy with a known work ethic problem both off the field and apparently on it. Fucking brilliant. There is zero accountability with these coaches.
He never hustles after he gets beat...
penkap75 : 11/12/2019 12:06 pm : link
Fucker looks to the ref for a flag and just starts jogging instead of trying the tackle the WR that just toasted him. He is a disgrace to the defense, and I blame poor coaching for his lack of hustle.
The lack of hustle is inexcusable.
Dave in Hoboken : 11/12/2019 12:07 pm : link
Not a fan of the guy at all. "Culture" my ass.
Jets game was not the first time he pulled that shit.

Say what you want about Coughling
Junior22 : 11/12/2019 12:08 pm : link
But this shit would not fly with him

Shurmur is just a soft coach with no balls to call out a rookie and bench him
I agree
cosmicj : 11/12/2019 12:10 pm : link
Bakers performance vs the Cardinals was embarrassing and directly led to the loss. He needs to get his head out if his ass.

But the problem with having a head coach fighting for his job is that he will sacrifice the long term (message: if you don’t try hard on this team, you don’t play) for the short term (Baker has more natural talent than the alternative, so let’s start him again to try and eke out a win). I predict the Shurm will continue to start Baker.
Why
DRich1980 : 11/12/2019 12:10 pm : link
This team is going nowhere this season so let the kid play. The only way to improve is with experience Jenkins should get bench so Beal can the playing.
to be fair there is 4 guys running at the same speed
larryflower37 : 11/12/2019 12:10 pm : link
Also, who is next up? exactly no one. Beal will be jumping in for Jenkins now.
Good coaches get the best out of their players and this staff doesn't give anyone confidence.
Every game the defense comes in unprepared to play a football game.
They have been down 14 points 4 times in the first half this season.
Who is game planning for this defense?

This is on Pat. He can't be stern and he knows it as it will result in more players quitting. This is the problem when you don't win.....the players don't respond. Pat will have him "get back to work in practice".
He appears to fit into their

I love Jackrabbit when he brings the A game, but he tends to make business decisions when it gets shitty. Baker must be learning from that.

...for a sub 6 foot CB that runs a 4.52. And a bad attitude. LOL what a joke.
That's just pathetic.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 11/12/2019 12:24 pm : link
And I haven't been as down on Baker as others.
The guy dogged it.
Giant John : 11/12/2019 12:25 pm : link
Show him the bench and tell him to get used to it.
Hargraves is available lol
Rjanyg : 11/12/2019 12:26 pm : link
CB and WR seem to trend on being " me " guys. This kids needs to start being coachable and accountable.
It's a losing culture,
Silver Spoon : 11/12/2019 12:30 pm : link
and these are the results. You would assume coaches would see this level of effort and do something about it.
Yeah. I remember a corner named...

I saw it during the game
Vanzetti : 11/12/2019 12:35 pm : link
And it’s not the first time he dogged it.!

He needs to sit for a half or a game

He has been awful this year. It’s not even debatable, despite some stubborn BBIers who claim otherwise. But the important thing is trying to get him to improve. That’s why you bench but then get him
Back out there

Corey Webster dropped because of injuries. He would have been a top ten pick. Way more talent and speed than Baker. Better attitude too. Corey never dogged it

Corey Webster struggled his first few years but not for lack of hustle

Do not make excuses for this type of behavior. It's one thing to struggle in coverage but lack of hustle has no rookie or veteran attachment
But we fixed our "culture" problem...

He was beaten often when he was rookie until it finally clicked.

In the thread I started people keep saying he's a rookie yada yada yada. That isn't the fucking point. Everyone can give effort, and trade up for a guy in the first with known work ethic issues, on and off the field, that had great tape, but had average at best measurables is fucking ponderous when you are spouting off about culture every chance you get. I was all about DG until the more I learned about Baker this week, including from SY who said there were whispers of this. So lets stop comparing him to guys that work hard.
This is why this team is trash
Junior22 : 11/12/2019 12:49 pm : link
Losing brings bad habits and lack of leadership on team make these types of rookies think nothing of it. I would bench him and tell him next time you give no effort on the play you are benched till next season

It's time these players are held accountable

There’s a lot to gain, you know like you better play your ass of or you don’t play. I don’t care when he was picked. Letting him thinkthis is ok is worse then him loafing it
I read that PFF has him ranked

Who's making excuses? I'm just pointing out that things can change over time. Not for the propeller-beanie crowd on here, however.
there have been zero signs of improvement over the past 2 years

According to Pat Shurmur

Webster wasn’t a dog
KWALL2 : 11/12/2019 1:18 pm : link
This guy has shown it in several games. No hustle. No urgency to get to the ball. He’s playing like a veteran who’s packed it in and just getting one last paycheck.

Awful coverage combined with a weak effort. This guy is a first round rookie?

The knock on Baker was his relatively poor 4.5+ speed. What makes you guys think he is not running as fast as he possibly can in that vid?

Gee, sorry to offend. Maybe I should genuflect and kiss the ring, eh? Where did you play/coach? All you do here is piss and moan...that's some "real" fan behavior.
and I was very excited when they drafted Baker
Greg from LI : 11/12/2019 1:19 pm : link
I thought he'd be a great pick. He was outstanding at Georgia. I thought he'd likely be the best player out of the 2019 draftees.

He has time to fulfill that yet, but so far he's been an enormous disappointment.
I was going to start a thread on Baker
cjac : 11/12/2019 1:20 pm : link
another thing that bothers me about him, and Apple had the same problem. Is no ball awareness.

He was in perfect postion on that PI in the end zone and he couldnt turn his head and swat at the ball?

how do we continue to draft CBs who cant turn and make a play on the ball. Its maddening
I hope his mom kept the Bentley in good shape.
Jim in Hoboken : 11/12/2019 1:21 pm : link
She might have to pawn it soon.

I’d bench him and play Ballatine and Beal, or even Love. It’s not a good sign to have an attitude even when you are playing like dogshit.
Baker has been a huge disappointment
JoeyBigBlue : 11/12/2019 1:41 pm : link
Should of known he would of been when he bought his mom a Bentley, upon signing his rookie deal. The kid doesn’t seem bright at all.

widmerseyebrow : 11/12/2019 2:01 pm : link
can't be sussed out in the predraft process. He never loafed at Georgia? Didn't interview one person who said this was an issue before using a 1ST ROUND pick on him?

Especially when this GM correctly assessed that Eli Apple was a humongous loser and sent him packing. It's sounding like we went and got another one.
At this stage you have to blame the head coach
chuckydee9 : 11/12/2019 7:31 pm : link
For allowing this to happen.. he was our 3rd pick.. there is no need to treat him differently.. bench his ass.. it's not like he is playing better than practice squad level player..
I honestly don’t know what the deal is with Baker
Jimmy Googs : 11/12/2019 8:19 pm : link
Watched a ton of UGA games during his career and that simply wasn’t his game.

Clearly the speed in NFL has taken him by surprise but the mental errors and lack of effort plays are all new. Not turning around on that play on Sunday when he was in perfect position just tells me he is winging it out there and not hearing/listening to fundamentals at this level.

Ugh, this team is really broken...
I think this is a team leadership thing too.
St. Jimmy : 11/12/2019 8:55 pm : link
The defensive leaders should let him know that is unacceptable. I doubt there is much leadership on the entire team. Everyone is a young player or a guy brought in through free agency/trade on the back end of their career.
Patience With Baker
DeepBlueJint : 11/13/2019 10:28 am : link
This coaching staff stinks. Baker may be dogging it, but whose fault is that?

This CB has talent. He showed it at Georgia in the SEC. He needs time to develop and a coaching staff that coaches.

The latter issue is most critical to his development.

I, for one believe Baker will ultimately be a terrific CB despite Shurmur and co. He is not Eli Apple. It is a question of when.
