Dear Dave,
Thank you for Golden....He is everything he has been and everything we were hoping for him to be....reliable, good route runner, healthy, td maker, and just a great role model.
I know a few here were bemoaning us getting him because they thought he was Sterling Sheppard 2, but on the other hand, many of us also realize SS is probably going to miss many games every year due to some injury, so it’s Not like we could assume Sheppard will always be here. And even if SS were healthy, there is nothing wrong with having SS, Slayton, and Tate as targets for our Prize rookie to throw to. Good foresight, Dave. May we call you Dave?
Anyhow, thanks again for this Golden blessing. For Christmas (free agency) we would like just two stud offensive linemen. We don’t want to sound greedy, so that will do. You could then work your magic in the draft to get us those defensive pieces we desperately need.....EDGE, free safety, and LB.
Thanks for always trying and not sitting on your hands like some GMs we know.
Love you,
Most of BBI
PS. Your trade of Odell was brilliant getting us 3 key components for our rebuilding defense (Lawrence, Peppers, and X) and removing the distraction and drama Odell brings with him.
Oh, and Make sure you get LWilliams to Stay put. We need him.
Maybe we can write a thank you note for Golden Tate once we win a game that he plays in?
I think you miscalculate one thing.....most here on BBI can see that DG is working hard to improve us from the mess he inherited 1.5 years ago. Rome was not built in a day you know. Sure, he is not perfect and has made a few errors, but I think most of us see the big picture here....there is a plan and it won’t be long before we start to reap the rewards for it.
As for this year, come on man, noSaquon, no Sheppard, no Ingram, Solder and Remmers laying eggs every Sunday, yet we still seem to be scoring points and throwing tds each week, aren’t we?
Why? Because DG didn’t settle for an inferior product....Darnold, Allen, Rosen....like many here on BBI clamored for. Instead, he got us One of the best RBS out there and a better qb in Jones. The injuries are not DG’s fault.
He tried to improve our defense and is still trying....Lawrence, Peppers, Baker, Ballentine, Connelly, Love, Beal, Xman, Golden, and more recently, Williams. As you can see....he is working at this. Watch what happens this offseason including the draft. I think we all will be pleasantly pleased to see a quality EDGE rusher and free safety starting and to see the young guns maturing in year two.
Yes, it doesn’t look to great today, but for those who have vision....we can the beauty of tomorrow very clearly. All you need is some faith, bro!
LOL

I would be more inclined to agree with you had he not been shoving 'retool not rebuild' down our throats for the past two seasons and laughing at anyone who dared question the logic of bringing back an in decline 37 year old, well compensated qb not once but twice
He's been practicing
You can laugh now cracker but I believe you are in the vocal minority here. I believe the majority of us here can process all the data we have and draw the proper conclusions....DG has a plan and it is unfolding right before our eyes. You know Big Mollies are his passion, so don’t fret too long, we will have those Mollies on each side of the line. Well, we already have them on one side.....one to go!

Already have them on one side?! WHICH ONE?! Both lines are worse than ever before
I wouldn't give Golden a huge contract, most of his sacks are coverage sacks.
I do like when people try and see positive and empathize optimism, but WTF?
a thank you letter for a guy who gets suspended for cheating before he takes 1 snap and then has been decent when he's played but has a $10M+ cap number the next couple seasons.
who gets suspended for PEds and this is your shining moment as a GM?
Thank you for that.

You didn't even know until a couple of weeks ago that Sterling Shepard had been extended. Or so you portrayed.
I think it's getting kind of obvious what your shtick here is, along with the only poster on this thread that agreed with you.
And no need to compliment Gettleman. He'll tell you how good he is.

Reluctantly I will answer you....
I don’t care if you don’t believe me when I said I was surprised to find out SS’s contract was extended. Who are you? I don’t need your approval for anything. Bit I confess, I don’t know everything there is to know about Giant football.
Now as to “what your shtick here is” please tell me because even I don’t know what it is. I’m just a guy who started rooting for the Giants since I first watched Sam Huff (70) crush Jim Brown (32) back in the late 50s. Something I was told was impossible to do.
Fast forward to today and I have had the joy of watching 4 out of 5 amazing Superbowls and as you can tell by my handle, am eagerly anticipating number five.
I know the last 8 years or so have been lean but it now appears to me we are in good hands with Dave guiding us.....I don’t care how many wins we have now. Things haven’t quite worked out as planned but good things are still happening which gives me much more hope for 2020 and beyond.
You people (said with a Don Cherry voice) who want to crucify DG are not going to be the only voice in town....I’m sorry....go find another website to bully. I have gone on record, yesterday I believe, in saying I’m indifferent regarding Coach Shurmur so I will trust DG’s decision. I’m sure if things go south again next year, no matter what, Coach Shurmur will be gone. But let’s hope it doesn’t come down to another 4 win season to make that happen.
So....let me know what my shtick is.....I’m all ears!
Thank you for that.
Kwall, are you being serious here? Does Golden look like he is fading to you? I think he has caught 4 tds in the last 2-3 games. If you think he is fading, what do you think of Sheppard? Saquon? Engram? What have those three done for us this year? Are they fading too? Based on your definition, compared to Golden, they must all be DEAD....not fading.
I wouldn't give Golden a huge contract, most of his sacks are coverage sacks.
Thank you Coach. It appears you and I see the same thing in Golden Tate.
I agree too, I,wouldn’t empty the bank to resign Golden, EDGE, but I wouldn’t mind seeing him in blue next year too.
I think you are just grading way more generously than most.
I think you are just grading way more generously than most.
Good points to discuss Mike. Thank you for that.
First, Solder.....everyone knows he was Plan B. We lost out on Plan A, I think Norrell. So, what can DG too? Well, he knew what we all knew....we have a horrible OL and we need to replace the bums we have with hopefully better guys. Solder was the starting LT in New England for a while so doesn’t common sense tell you that he must be somewhat decent if Bill is starting him? Honestly, I didn’t know the details about him.
So, apparently, he was better than Plan C, so we had to pay the man to get him here. Did we pay too much? Obviously in hindsight, yes. But would he have signed with less? How much less could we have gone to still land him? I don’t know. I do know, at the time I thought he would be a helliuva lot better than what we had.
As for Remmers.....well again, free agency was sparse when it came to tackles last year. Plus, we didn’t have much cap room, so it appears DG went the cheap route to sign a guy I think for only one year...maybe two, not sure. As I recall, no one was shouting praises for Remmers but I don’t recall people also warning us he is a load of dog Pooh. Well, again, like Solder, it just didn’t work out. Did DG have other options other than Remmers? It didn’t appear like he did especially based on the budget he had to work with.
Now, this is is why I’m very hopeful for next year.....no Eli’s 20 million and we are supposed to have plenty of money to compete to land the big Mollies we all know DG covets. Let’s see how this plays out.
And I think just about everyone agrees, his two drafts have been very good. Hopefully next year we will see the fruit of some of these guys like Love, Ballentine, Beal, and Baker. We are already seeing Jones, Lawrence, Slayton, and evening Connelly.,
Lastly, what to do with Coach Shurmur? Like,I have said....I don’t know, and I’m indifferent. I’m not really sold on coach but I do realize this year is not all his fault. I will just watch and accept whatever happens and hope it works out well for us.
So, what are you thinking?
The Giants will be in sorry shape once he decides to retire. He has built this team like no other gm in the history of the ny giants had before. Giants are so fortunate to have him as gm. The best era of giants football is here..enjoy! Go Giants!!
Thank you for that.
Oh please save it. If the guy isn’t 6’5 and posses insane measurables he’s dead to you. Tate is a solid player and is having a pretty good year.
He had fans now? After making a couple of plays against the Jets backups?
Quote:
Tate is the most polished saavy technician I've seen since Toomer, and I was an anti-Tate guy (small, not super fast, has a bit of Carolina Steve Smith in him). Hopefully this rubs off on the younger receivers (Slayton?), we really haven't had a vet like that for a while.
I would tell all the young receivers to watch tapes of Tate. Doesn't drop passes (unlike just about all our other receivers), love his body placement and recognition of throwing lanes and windows in tight coverage, he has done a lot of the subtle stuff less experienced receivers do not. Always wondered why a small, not fast receiver has had such outsized production in the league. Should be a tremendous boon to DJ8 this year, imagine otherwise a rookie QB dealt a 5th round rookie WR lead passing attack.
3-13 team!
I suggest you check out the details because it will very likely change your view.
On this we violently agree. Here is what I wrote on the Sy game review thread at the same time as you were writing this...
The issue with Tate is not his production
.McL. : 11:42 pm : link : reply
Or how good a player he is right now.
The issue with Tate is that he is 31 years old on team that has no hope of being competitive over the next 2 years.
When the Giants are ready to compete, he will be gone.
The Giants are not in a position right to be giving multi-year contracts out to 30+ year old players. The Giants need to find solutions that will be here and be a part of the core for years to come.
Tate is an excellent player for a team that has SB aspirations and need a solid WR.

So your solution was for the Giants to only play three rookies and don’t even bother to add a proven reliable stud WR? Seriously, that is what you want? You’d rather see Reggie White out there than Golden Tate? Sheesh
Is this OP Gettleman or his wife?
The Giants don't even agree with themselves - on the one hand they're purging productive players over 30, on the other signing them.
Especialy the point that the Giants have won 0 games with Tate. It literally couldn't be any worse.
This team is going nowhere this year, nor anywhere next year.
The Giants are far better off trying to develop a player or sign a young guy who can become part of the core of this team when they are ready to compete. Oh and while they are at that, they could have saved 6.25M this year, 10.5M next year, and 11M in 2021 against the cap... Money that could have been used to sign a potential core player.
