know i'm probably going to get slaughtered for this...

but here goes...

i would pay urban meyer what he wants and give him the hc spot. i know he's had health issues and has bowed out of college gigs, but i have a feeling he would turn this ship around in a hurry.

not sure he's into the nfl but heard the cowboys have been kicking his tires recently.

I don't know enough about his coaching style his health or even college football to speak of but he seems to get players and get players to 'buy in' and to translate that into champions.
I'll walk away if that happens

Need a Parcells type coach to shake things up. Jerry realized it, not so sure about about Mara/Tisch. Is there another wCo coordinator that will help ensure DJ8 throws 70% out there?

Seeing more of Meyer on TV, seems to be an exceptional communicator, likely accounts for much of his success. Can you imagine Shumur on TV? Would likely be defensive and sensitive aND make you want to not listen.
I've always thought
Juice921 : 11/13/2019 3:37 pm : link
that what makes the big time college coach successful is their recruiting ability more than game planning/coaching itself. They recruit and attract better players, and out-talent their opposition.
I know somebody who played under Urban Meyer with the Dolphins.

The players HATED him. He had an ego the size of the moon; he had a rule that players had to move out of his way if he was walking down the hallway. No thanks.
I never felt he was that strong of a coach...

Harbaugh would be better...although a little nuts

Ignore this, I was thinking of Nick Saban, I am an idiot.

guessing players move out of the way when belichick walks down the hall...meyer has won wherever he has been.
He cheats and is unethical in recruiting
BigBlueDownTheShore : 11/13/2019 3:44 pm : link
That’s why he has these mysterious health issues when they suddenly have some bad press.

He would be a disaster in the NFL, where you have to do more with less.
He would need...
bw in dc : 11/13/2019 3:45 pm : link
and likely deserve complete control. In other words, he wouldn't need a GM, especially DG.

If not for his health concerns, and they are a flag (just don't know how red), this guy could be the next Jimmy Johnson...

I think Harbaugh makes a better NFL coach, his extreme douchiness can rub recruit parents the wrong way. Herm Edwards is the opposite, and is making a better college coach.

Pete Carroll didn't fake illnesses to get out of contracts..did he cheat his way through USC, yep. But most college coaches at that level are shady.

No way to Urban Meyer.

Why the fuck do we need yet another WCO coach? We keep hiring "QB gurus" at OC and HC to what end? Hire the best person out there, especially if they have had success on D.

Meyer faked his way out of Florida?
I think NY would eat him up...

I heard him talking about how the college players will be able to make money of their name. He was certain it will happen. Hated the idea because it would be much harder for him to coach with a player making 600k. Pretty revealing.

Great recruiter, great identifying coaching talent. I think in the NFL without the talent advantage he would be wincing in pain and grabbing his head in short order.

I think
Amtoft : 11/13/2019 6:14 pm : link
Meyer wins by being such an amazing recruiter, judging HS talent, and motivating young players. NFL I don't think is as stressful as college as you don't have to recruit or worry about players going to class. Could he be a great coach at the NFL level... maybe, but I am not sure I want to be the team that finds out.

He certainly did with his fake heart problem crap. Then he suddenly had brain lapses when his recruiting staff turned out to be total duschebags.

Why don't you go back to rooting for the Redskins.

Urban is slime ball and if your the college guru you claim to be, you would know that.

He gave an excuse, IIRC, about his heart and pressure(hey may have been real). So he left UF and shortly after he left UF he was at OSU or don't you remember that?
If the pressure at UF was causing him health issues, how was being HC at OSU going to be better for his health?

I remember. But I don't think it was something he faked. In fact, a good friend of mine works at UF as a professor and it pretty dialed-in. FWIW.

And as I said earlier, while I like Meyer, he does come with red flags.

So I think we are probably closer on this than you think...

He won't be able to pay his players more than his competition once he coaches in the NFL.

Like I said he may have had an issue but down here in FL it seemed flukey and then he was at OSU right away. He really wanted ND(said it was his dream job.)
I think the point was, Tebow was gone, the team was on the way down and he used an issue to walk away to a better job.

He is a great college coach, but I doubt he does well in the NFL.

My issue with college coaches
Daniel in MI : 11/13/2019 10:15 pm : link
is you have to be careful of the ones from really strong programs because they can stockpile talent that is vastly better than opponents. To wit, in 2017 OSU had five 5-star and 14 4-star recruits. Meanwhile, with the exception of UM, no one else in the Big10 comes close to that kind of recruiting success. No matter how good Meyer is in the living room, he's unlikely to have that kind of NFL recruiting success with the cap in place. So, it's always a question as to whether they can win without that big talent advantage. And, of course, if they can motivate guys they don't rule over like a king.

(For comparison the other top Big10 recruiting schools were: Michigan with 2 5-star and 19 4-star the second best, then PSU at 0 and 11, Nebraska 0 and 6, and MSU at 0 and 4). Play that out year after year and you get a program in OSU that has 20 5 star recruits and the rest 4-stars, vs most that have zero or maybe a couple 5-star and a few 4-stars sprinkled in. UM should be their only Big10 competition in any year by those numbers. Hell, it's impressive Dantonio got MSU to the BCS once and won the Big10 twice considering he's working with all 3 star with a few 4 stars.)
LOL

YOU would pay Urban Meyer whatever he wants.
John Mara sure as hell wouldn't.
