Jordan Ranaan said the lockroom was demorlized when Eli was

brought back. Newest breaking big blue podcast, Jordan said guys were demoralized in the locker room when they found out Eli was coming back this year.

Who was it? Had to be offensive line or the WR group. Or maybe Engram.
The locker room should be demoralized

So the locker room got they want now? Not demorilized, but still sucking balls?

I'm not even sure of the point.

If that's true, outside of a smalll handful of guys (Jones, Barkley, Hernandez, Slayton, the better rookies on D like Lawrence and Maybe Golden), just clean house. Get them the fuck out and just rebuild a few bricks at a time. And that goes double for the loser ass coach.

I recall a similar "he's full of shit" reaction to a Jordan Ranaan story in pre-season a few years ago, right after OBJ was hurt against Cleveland. Ranaan reported that OBJ would miss the opener and likely the first few games. And that's exactly what happened.
One major problem with this
Biteymax22 : 11/13/2019 7:04 pm : link
When they announced Eli was coming back, no one was in this locker room because it was the offseason. Also, about half the guys on this team, weren’t on the team at that point.

I think if you consider their best offensive player missed games and has been playing hurt, that's a wash.

Jordan brought up an interesting observation in an answer to what Shula's job is. Jordan said that his primary role is to develop the passing game plan. The other tidbit is that Shula isn't involved in the run game plan. He believes that Hal Hunter is developing the run game plan. The whole dynamic just underscores the dysfunction of this coaching staff.

Don't take the headline that the OP wrote. Jordan brings up the Eli claim at the end (Skip to the last 10 minutes if you don't want to listen to the whole podcast). Jordan doesn't say the entire/majority of the locker-room was demoralized. He said that when the decision to bring back Eli was made that there were a some players that were demoralized.

Odell was traded on the 12th of March. He is an obvious one. The other players that were demoralized can likely be figured out based on who has been here in the past and who are being "held back" from Eli's performance. We can safely assume that it wasn't anyone from the defense. They share plenty of blame in their own play holding the team back before they start casting blame on Eli. The OL is trash and have no room to point fingers. So the short list is Engram and the TEs, Shep, and Barkley?

Why can you safely assume that on an undermanned defense that had anyone worth anything (save for Jackrabbit) traded away that they didn't resent Eli getting $23M for a season where they felt he hurt their chances of scoring more than he helped?

Same way the assumptions conveniently stick to non-Gettleman players; he says 'a bunch' of players weren't happy about it, the chances of that list being restricted to only Reese drafted players is slim to none.

Fine. Open it up to defensive players that have been absolute trash and share in the blame for being a terrible team. Jan. 2nd - DG and Eli had their mensch conversation. DG said that they weren't committing to Eli as a result of the conversation. Jenkins could be added to the list. Who else on the defensive side would you nominate?

I noticed that you put Barkley on the list - but for the life of me couldn't figure out why.

For a guy who came in with everyone in the world touting his team first mentality, why on Earth would you think he'd be demoralized by Eli's return? Enough so that he'd be public about it no less.

Were they proven wrong? Has the offense taken a big step back, given Tate missed the first 4 games and Barkley was injured, despite being led by a rookie from Duke?

Can't remember which sports stat site it was, but one had said that Eli and Jones had the same replacement value - and BBI had a fit. Were they wrong?

I put Barkley with a question mark. I don't think anyone has been "public" about Eli holding the team back except for Odell in his Lil' Wayne interview. I was only spitballing players that would potentially be directly impacted by Eli's play while also not having fault in their own game. I can't believe a player would be demoralized by Eli's return if they share in the blame for the losing seasons.

Not public as in OBJ's interview

Daniel in MI : 11/13/2019 9:56 pm : link
1) Stop going on about "fake news" and "people made it up" shit. Honestly, that is such weak whiny crap.

2) It sounds overblown, as mentioned earlier. He may not have said it earlier because it's not that big of a deal. I bet people talk like this all the time unless their starter is freakin' Brady or Rodgers.

3) Do you really think, on a team of 53 players (plus) that there were not some people who thought EXACTLY like half of BBI - that Eli was past his prime? That we drafted a new QB and he should start right away? And on a team where that one player is not the future is also eating up a huge amount of cap space that affects who else the team can acquire (and how much they can pay to these other players potentially)? I have no problem believing that there might be some players who think that. Hell, on my HS football team there was not unanimity about who the starting QB should be, and we had a lot less at stake than these guys.

Exactly. To think this isn't true on some level is bizarre.

The romantics at BBI went to believe that Eli was viewed as a deity. And that when he entered the locker room it was like Moses carrying the Ten Commandments. Everyone was in awe...

The ppg average is just a horrible example of how NOT to use a stat to make your point that the offense doesn't look improved with Jones at QB, despite his numerous weak points.

I mean, the offense in 2019 alone averaged 15.5 ppg in the 2 games Eli started, and what about 22 ppg since Jones started?

But when we just eyeball it, it L oks better. Maybe you should look at 3rd down conversions, or how Jones brought the team back from deep deficits at least twice.

When's the last time Eli did that?

We looked lost on 3rd and long with Eli at QB, everyone saw that as plain as the noses in the middle of their own faces.

They averaged more ppg in 2018? In games that Barkley ran wild?

Give me a break, and please really dig a little (into the data) before you insist the O doesn't look revitalized a good bit under Jones, despite Jones' numerous rookie miscues.

The other tidbit is that Shula isn't involved in the run game plan. He believes that Hal Hunter is developing the run game plan. The whole dynamic just underscores the dysfunction of this coaching staff.
Parcells did the same thing in Dallas. Sean Payton was in charge of the passing game and Tony Sparano was in charge of the running game. That was the first I'd hear of something like that, but there have been at least a couple or so since that have done the same.

It's possible his source or sources in the locker room were sitting on this nugget for months and only first shared it with Ranaan recently.
I don't know how you watch anything about this offense

Jones can make throws and I like what is happening with him and Slayton. Tate can play as well and would have liked to have seen him with Eli to see what happened.

Aside from that I agree with you, people are watching this offense and are seeing potent and reliable unit?

Looks like crap to me and it collapses in crunch time. It just sucks less than the defense.
I don't how Ranaan can calll it a locker room thing

Here's how it COULD have happened.

The veteran players learn individually in the off-season about Eli coming back. Then when they get together again in training camp, individual players shared their thoughts with other players about how they felt when they learned that Eli was returning.

It's also possible (as Milton pointed out) that no player shared this info with Ranaan until recently.

I'm not saying that it DID happen this way, but this plausible scenario would address how individual players could have a collective reaction to an off-season event (i.e.-the "locker room") and why Ranaan waited until now to report it.

Another poster who actually listened to the podcast said Ranaan was just giving his opinion on the locker room. No players actually said this to him.
Didn't they vote him Captain?

This story makes no sense.

There wasn't a "locker room" when the decision was made to bring Eli back, it was off-season. I'm sure some guys were frustrated, but unless Ranaan called everyone on the roster, this is utter BS.
the only reason I could believe this
mdc1 : 11/15/2019 5:50 pm : link
is if some wanted more help (better players) and/or another year of limited funds that will not go to other players contract value?
Does it even matter?

The whole team can get on the Titanic v 2.0. it can sink, and we can start over and have the exact same record

Good riddance to all of them if true regardless of talent

Eli won 2 superbowls. These teams can’t win 5 games

These teams aren’t NY Giant type football teams
It wouldn't be surprising

Most of these guys were in high school the last time Eli was a part of anything relevant in the NFL. They don't have the connection to the past that we do. To the guys on the locker room Eli's a guy that's making way more money than them and not earning it.

I see it quite clearly and wonder how folks DON'T see it. Later today, I'll see if I can mine some data to support the overall sense I get that this offense is considerably better than it was under Eli in recent years. Off the top of my head, Eli's recent years featured OBJ far too much as a % of the passing game yards and total offensive yards.
