the likelihood of the Mets signing him. It was a no-brainer -- he's going to get more per year for 3-4 years. I ultimately agree that the Mets probably don't go as high as it will take, but declining the QO was pretty obvious.

I know I live in a dream world, but I like the pitcher who says Â
Hey, we could have something special here and I want to be part of it. If the team is fair with me, I will give them every opportunity to sign me so I can continue on with these guys.
I am not saying get way underpaid...I am saying, make a fair demand, see if the team is agreeable and get it done.
I have seen examples of this in the past and that player is even more loved by the fans. I have also seen pitchers like this take the big money and wallow on a losing team for the rest of the contract.
Wheelers would show me something if he was the former.
I think Wheeler would like to stay, but the Mets will probably be Â
Wheeler might end up in Atlanta -- he's a Georgia boy. Julio Teheran is got 1 year left, and may be trade bait.
I'm not sure Zack can get $17M from the Braves -- they will have a bunch of young pitchers coming along and $17M is a dangerous number to have on your payroll. Wheeler may have to offer a home town discount to the Braves.
but hopefully there's still a chance the Mets can sign him back. Losing him is extremely counterproductive and would be a another direct indictment of BVW's poor budget allocation.
He’s a Boras guy, we can’t pay everyone and we have more corner options anyway.
-Marte is a worse defensive CF than Nimmo. Marte is a worse hitter than Nimmo.
-Marte is worse hitter than Conforto. Marte is five years older than Conforto with the same amount of control.
-Replacing Nimmo or Conforto with Marte makes the team worse.

Not sure they have the room for Wheeler. I think he should be a no-brainer for them (and all teams) just depends what they're willing to spend.
yes.

Dom for Marte though? Definitely.
