If your eyes were closed last night with the game on. You might have thought it was Game 7 of the NBA Finals. The Garden was electric last night. This was the one game this year I had circled as a must win, for me at least. I wanted this game badly. It was nice that we swept this asshole too.
Fizdale who is a potato head, lame duck about to be fired head coach actually coached his best game of the year. He kept the rotations short, didn't do stupid shit lineups. And it seems like the Knicks actually moved with-and-without the ball. It's encouraging. But he should still be fired for Dave Joeger.
Couple Notes
-Knicks went 9-11 from the free throw line. Pop your champagne bottles!!!!!
Frank Ntilikina: He got into some foul trouble early (very questionable calls). Knocked down an open 3. Put the clamps on defense in the 4th with 5 fouls. He was very aggressive last night. Two CLUTCH free throws at the end of the game. The most impressive thing about him was his postgame comment. Something we have NEVER seen or heard him say or do.
Frank Ntilikina:
“How can I get to the next level? By being a dog.” |
Dennis Smith Jr: Came in early after Frank picked up 3 quick fouls. Immediately showed his athleticism by driving and finding Mitch and others for some easy buckets. His best game by far. He was pretty winded from logging heavy minutes. But hopefully he can continue to get back into game shape and be a positive for us.
RJ Barrett: Highlight of the night was his spin move off of Doncic at the top of the key, the drive and slam with the right hand. 100% FROM THE FREE THROW LINE (2-2). Finished with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Marcus Morris: Hit the dagger with the 3 at the end. Huge game from him. Keep improving that trade value.
Julius Randle: I tend to think he really believes in Fizdales stupid ass idea of ISO and comparing us to the Rockets. Randle thinks he has the greenlight to be James Harden or some shit. He could be effective if he had a defined role. He excels when the ball is moving and he can go downhill. He can't create. He's just not that player.
Robinson: Solid outing for Big Meech. 7-8 for 16 points. Was disrupting shots on the defensive end. Collecting 8 rebounds along the way before fouling out.
Other things: Knox came in and continued to show he can still knock down some shots. Which is encouraging. Same with Dotson. Doncic, an all-star. But also a bitch when it comes to playing. Constantly crying.
Dude got hot at the end of the 3rd and didnt bring him back until he was cold...
Carlisle cooled off doncic for the knicks, i think doncic had 2 pointd in the 4th, kp had zero
Thankfully it didn't come to that.
So happy to have KP's act out of here.
Thankfully it didn't come to that.
i was waiting for a fadeaway 3 to tie it..
before that i was like they are going to hit a halfcourt shot
Need less of Randle penetration. Fiz is letting him try to be LeBron and he really just is not.
Frank's shot was inconsistent as usual but he was the only one who could affect Luka on defense at all. Luka is some player.
RJ scoring slump continued but that dunk was really fun.
Ridicule him all you want, he was one of the biggest reasons they won that game last night
A couple of observations:
1) Perry deserves more blame for the team that I originally gave him. The roster is poorly constructed, not enough shooters, the Morris/Randle combo is terrible. None of the 3 point guards can shoot. There were combinations on the court, where I said, who is going to score. He better deal off Morris to a contender for a 1st rounder or another epic fail.
2) The officiating was terrible, Frank and Mitch got called for fouls that I am not sure what they did
3) The 2 most popular players on the Knicks are RJ and Frank (Believe it or not). I think eventually, Frank can be a 2 or 3 in the mold of Bruce Bowen or Sefolosha. RJ should be the 3 and they need a stud point guard.
4) Julius Randle has terrible body language on the court and just is not a winning player
5) KP is not going to love being the #2 on that team, his ego won't allow it. He is living with it right now, but you can see this is going to be Luca's team. KP should have stayed with the Knicks and made it work, the crowd reaction was deserved, no matter what you think of Mills/Perry's ability to build a good team.
6) To repeat - KNICK FANS deserve better, what an amazing and patient bunch we are.
I think there's some regret on both sides - Knicks AND Kristaps. Both bailed on the relationship a little too soon. KP obviously enjoyed NY, and probably would've embraced being the leader of a young squad with RJ, Mitch, Knox and Frank. That group could probably attract a good free agent, too.
Mills/Perry moved fast, because they did not want to be embarassed, no idea what other deals were out there, but if they thought they were getting KD, they had terrible intel.

Wait shit sorry I read this wrong haha. But he does have a positive WAR

That's sorted by minutes played. He's still one of the few (on that snapshot at least) that are positive.

Robinson just oozes talent. He could really be a player.
Porzingis was awful last night. It felt like he didn’t step in the paint on offense.
The crazy thing about this team is that it’s not far off from being decent. Their young guys have talent they just need to be developed and put it together. But the roster construction was so awful and such a mismanagement of the cap. If this team just had Morris and some combo of a shooter and point guard, they would be so much better. Imagine this team with Reddick and Brogdon instead of Randle/ Portis/ Ellington/ Gibson/ Bullock. But Morris has been great all year.
One game though - they need to build off of this.
I am good with leaving gibson and frank as starters..
What it's shown me is that he has an excellent feel for all aspects of the game, but his shooting definitely needs improvement. He's a plus player for sure though - and if his shooting improves he'll be a star.
probably melo

hit a clutch 3 like Morris did last night in closing moments and game on the line? Feels like it has been a decade of clunkers that we usually see in that situation.

Melo got his points, and I'm sure hit hit a few game winners for the Knicks, but by my memory it seems like he was far too often missing those shots.
I'd say Melo vs the Derrick Rose Bulls a few years back.

the 2 3s he hit on easter against the bulls are 2 of the clutchest shots any knicks player has ever hit
No disagreement, but as to having both Morris and Randle - they signed Randle first, at a time when it looked like Morris was going to the Spurs. I doubt it was a long-term plan to sign both - more like the opportunity arose to sign Morris and they took it even though they already had Randle. Of course, that doesn't excuse some of the other moves/lack of moves.
As for KP, at least of now, he does not appear to be a great fit with Luka. I don't see any evidence that suggests Luka views him as a co-superstar with himself. I don't know what KP wants out of his career but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he wants out of Dallas too at some point.
Fiz is terrible, but Pat Riley would have trouble finding a good combo with this group.
I go back to the lineup they should run out there:
PG: Frank
SG: RJ
SF: Knox
PF: Morris
C: Mitch
6th Man: Randle - (He would lose his mind, but this is his best role)
It was obvious from tip, they were jacked for this game and were not going to allow KP to get the better of them.
KP is going to want out of Dallas, Luca is the star of that team. My issue with KP is was that he accomplished zero in his career, except proving to be injury prone and wanted to be treated like Lebron James. In my mind, his former teammates know it and the fans know it, no matter what kind of passive aggressive remarks he makes about what really happened between him and the Knicks.
Frank at the 2? Don't see it, he doesn't score the ball, shoot the 3 with confidence and consistency, etc.
Seems like a real nice kid, but I think he's a marginal NBA player.
Don't care if it's not the cool thing to say these days as a Knick fan, but trading KP was stupid, stupid, stupid...the Knicks finally had a superstar-ish player and they blew it...Mismanaged personal issue, smart owners and GM's would have brought him back into the fold, he's a kid and going head to head with him was hubris at best, pig-headed at worst....
Frank is just starting to have the light switched to the ON position.

I could see DSJ as the starter at the 1 eventually (when he gets back in a groove), with Frank spelling him. You might lose scoring from the point with the second crew in, but you'll get that defensive intensity + an unselfish, team player.
And look at FA again in the off-season.
I'm NOT in the "dump Fizdale" camp. Not yet. I think he's a bit over his head right now and thought the team would battle night in and out ... when they don't, I think he panics a bit (ie, his non-stop rotations that sometimes make absolutely zero sense - for the situation ... for the team's development or future ... none of it).
But I think pulling the plug on him THIS soon would be a mistake.
Whatever the Mavs want him to do, he'll do. If things aren't going well, nobody else is going to want give up anything for his contract, so "asking out" won't be on the table.
The Knicks did not want to commit to KP the player. Once that is recognized, none of the other issues matter.
Knicks have done so many other things wrong, it may be hard to accept that they got this decision right, but the evidence tends that way.
KP has to be a better shooter than he is showing for his overall game to be worth the contract.
Kyrie is better than Russell, but not by that much.
Lavert is injury prone, was in college and is in the pros
Jarret Allen is a limited player
Joe Harris/Dinwiddie - good role players, but not starters on a championship team.
because nobody cares
Ball movement, help defense, good decisions - Good entertainment.
When the crowd was chanting KP Sucks, they panned in on Dolan - he should be the focus of the crowds ire

Greg doesn't watch the games clearly. He also said Kemba cooked Frank plenty of times during the game against Boston. Even though he only scored 3 off the French Prince.
I do watch the games, you stupid motherfucker. If I was wrong about the sequence, then I'm wrong. Go jerk off to Fab Five highlights, babble "COPESANITY!" to yourself, and pretend that Michigan is fucking relevant in any way, shape, or form.
Next Year
Frank wasn't a Luka stopper but he was also the only one who didn't let Luka do whatever the hell he wanted to do, too.

Wow man. You really flew off the handle there. You okay, bud? I know you hate everything, and all. No need to be like that. It's okay. If you want, I can give you my login credentials to NBA League Pass so you can start watching the Knicks games going forward.

Wow man. You really flew off the handle there. You okay, bud? I know you hate everything, and all. No need to be like that. It's okay. If you want, I can give you my login credentials to NBA League Pass so you can start watching the Knicks games going forward.

Greg is a psychopath. I know his psychiatrist very well. He told me he hasn’t been taking his meds

Sure it does. They’re 3-9 and not totally cooked.
b)again, everyone's only played 11 or 12 games. They have had a chance to put the Knicks far into the rearview yet.
Another way to look at it - they're 1-9 against teams other than the Dallas Mavericks.

Great -- those are all true.
In another universe the Knicks continue to improve and catch the Hawks, who are in the 7th seed right now at a whopping 4-7.

Thus the douchebaggery.
Funny nobody talking about the nets who are 4-7 that you called a 50 win team..

The one thing the Knicks are not is irrelevant. They were a national news story everywhere this week. They may be bad and poorly run but they generate a ton of buzz

Jefferson is insanely unprofessional when it comes to the Knicks. He was laughing at the Knicks and the fans last week too. He needs to be throat punched. The fact he’s still talking about them tells you how “irrelevant” they are
17-8-4 this year with 1.6 steals and is a very good defender.

Love VanVleet. He would be far and away better then anything we have. Love his defensive play and he can shoot the 3
How did he we miss out on Morant? We weren't in position to draft him.

We got the shittier the Wichita State guard :(

I would. But there’s no point with Fizdale. We’d have to have another coach in place.

And someone floated Knox at the 4, because he does look like a 4. Especially if he keep growing. Bully faced kid, let him start banging.
So that's
Smith or Frank @1 or Peyton
Frank or Trier or Smith @2
Barrett @3
Knox @4 or portis Outside
Robinson @5 or randle Inside
Lots more 3s 1-4 and more attacking paint.

Where does that leave Marcus Morris?
He’s only here for one year. He’s a vet. He’s the only one with legit trade value.
Morant looks great so far but he's also a year older than Barrett. This time last year a lot of people (myself included) thought Trae Young would wind up a bust.

you dont know if he is here for one year, and exactly he is a vet, these young guys need vets like marcus morris

If I had to choose, I would rather trade Randle and figure out a way to keep Morris beyond this year. I could see Morris being in the starting lineup of a contender, I don't think you could say the same for Randle. He comes off as a "good stats, bad team" guy to me. That said, you could probably get slightly more in a trade for Randle because he is younger and has potentially 2 more years of control after this year.
As for fit with the Knicks, I also think Morris gives more flexibility to play alongside the young guys. As I had mentioned in another thread, I think we have a few guys playing out of position (mainly Barrett, Knox and Ntilikina). I think Barrett is a 3, and Knox is a stretch 4. Knox especially just doesn't have the quickness to keep up with perimeter players, he needs to bulk up and defend power forwards. Morris can play the 4 next to Barrett or could fit just as well at the 3 next to Knox. Depending on the opponent, I also think you can get away with a few minutes of Morris as a small ball 5.
Randle on the other hand is pretty much pigeon holed to the 4, and because of the amount of minutes he plays, that limits Knox's ability to play that position. I do think Randle would do well in spots as a small ball 5, but Fizdale hasn't shown any willingness to do that. God forbid he do something that'll take minutes away from Bobby Portis!
he is their leasing score..
charlotte just chucks, and of course fizdales defense is playing below the arc
Oh well. RJ and Mitch looked good. Not much else matters with this squad.
andhe runs a play for randle?

Why was Frank guarding two guys? Was there someone not guarding anyone?
he doesnt adjust, he just uses stuff that works from the game before, he doesnt gameplan for the team they are playing..
why the fuck would you play zone against team that just shoots 3s?
Can’t blame Frank he thought Washington was going to hand off to Graham. Just a good design.
Instead of ours, Fiz sucks.
Then the last play of the game he takes RJ out and runs a play for an iso randle ?
Fizdale is so bad . I dont even care though. Rj and mitch played great and thats all that matters. Another loss closer to fiz, mills, and perry being fired, and a good tank loss.
robinson should of been at the 3 point line

Mitch was laying off PJ because he was way outside the arc. Frank ran over and left Graham.
Brainlock.
no no no - ( New Window )
This team would be a lot better if RJ was playing the 3, morris, the 4, and mitch at 5 . I hate the way randle plays. He kills ball movement, he thinks hes a PG which leads to TO, He kills spacing at the 4 , and he's a sieve on Defense
they are losijg to cleveland on monday..
there was 2.1 seconds left..
He is delusional
Another terrible loss at home.
Another terrible loss at home.
Randle is so frustrating to watch. You can see the potential there, he can be a good player offensively if he doesn't try to do too much. If he gets the ball off movement at the elbow and takes two dribbles to the rim he can be very effective, but this shit where they give it to him at the top of the key or on the wing and let him try to make a play just can't fucking happen. He made two big shots down the stretch, and then just completely negates it by taking an absolutely awful shot when we were up two and had a chance to close it out and then the garbage play our coach drew up. He can't be the feature player, he's just not suited for it. He needs to be the third option at best, he can thrive in that role.
I am so happy we aren't locked into this guy for more than two years. I really hope they explore trades with him, I think he has value to one of these borderline teams in the West like Portland, OKC, or Sacramento (once they realize Bagley is a Center). He would actually be a perfect fit in Dallas next to Doncic and Porzingis, but they have absolutely nothing of value to trade.

I know these clowns think they signed Lebron but is this guy treated like hes a franchise player? Refusing to bench him , drawing him all the last shots for him- it’s absurd. He’s on a 2 year deal that isn’t even that big. He deserves no special treatment. That ball needs to go Barrett.

They won't have the balls to trade Randle unless they get a haul ( which they won't) because he was their prized signing this summer. If they can get value for both, I'd try to trade him and Morris. But I would be trying to trade Randle 1st for sure.
Oh and they habe to get rid of this coach
He is only 24, he still has a lot of room to grow and mature himself. Once he learns to better play within himself, and they add a couple more good players around him he might settle into his role nicely and be a solid piece.
10 for last 12
Pretty good.
Fizdale trying to make him a point forward was part of the TO story.

Fizdale backing off his minuets a little has helped IMO. He was getting a little overworked for a bit there.

Sooooo 7-1? Lol

because they have friends in the media, both use woj as a mouthpiece..
Woj actually said the reason the nets sre bad right now is because they do not have a lot of talent around kyrie, but in the offseason lauded the nets..
just stating if atkinson was cosch of the knocks he would be in an extreme hot water right now...
Cmon, dude - all the blathering about CULTURE! around here and you don't expect to get razzed?
now this year they are 1) injured 2) play zero defense which i cannot watch 3) dont move the ball 4) leads to thinking they are poorly coached and underappreciated what guys like Carroll and RHJ and Dudley meant for that culture.
so i agree with you guys, i just needed to chime in because there are often a lot of comments about not caring about the nets
yeah, I saw that - it's just the G League but still.

I like him. He has some limitations but I think he's going to be a solid NBA role player.
Of course if we trade some guys, things may be different.
#MichiganMan
Not saying he's going to dominate the NBA. But he's Luka 2.0.
He is probably better than most on the bottom half of the roster (or will be quickly after some development).
I read something similar in another article. Yeah, the dad is a piece of work. It's too bad because I think LaMelo looks like a player (I watched some extended highlights of his team in the Aussie league). Reminds me a little of Pete Maravich. But for the father, wouldn't mind seeing LaMelo on the Knicks. But the dad would make it into a constant circus, I expect.
Not to beat a dead horse, but Mitchell instead of Frank and SGA instead of Knox....
