Report: Eli not into 'ceremonial nonsense'

Dinger : 11/15/2019 4:30 pm
I stumbled across this on a slow Friday afternoon and thought it was quite an apropos way for him to finish his Giants career. He was never into making a spectacle or being the focus of a story or the team and if it was any other way, it would most likely feel too contrived.

Report: Giants' Eli Manning not interested in 'ceremonial nonsense' - ( New Window )
No

Regular ground.
there were a lot of people

here pining for such a thing. Never bought into idea Eli would care for a last start ceremony. Glad it’s being described as nonsense.
the author seems to have some limited perspective
hassan : 11/15/2019 5:14 pm : link
about how careers end with that said. seems to think eli was treated more unceremoniously than any other hall of famer? ridiculous, he collected his entire salary and can you imagine what a total waste this season would be if we had not seen Jones?
Of course not
joeinpa : 11/15/2019 5:28 pm : link
Eli was just about playing, he said it many times, just likes to win and have fun.

I m glad he won’t
Not
AcidTest : 11/15/2019 5:49 pm : link
surprised. As almost every has already acknowledged, absent an injury to Jones, Eli has played his last snap for the Giants.
The one thing I’ve always
BBelle21 : 11/15/2019 5:58 pm : link
marveled at about Eli is how he doesn’t have a phony bone in his body. There’s no way he would have ever agreed to that nonsense. His final farewell press conference is going to be tough.
Eli certainly has a better grasp
BigBluesman : 11/15/2019 6:47 pm : link
than the smug author of this piece.

I doubt that he has a farewell press conference.

The energy of booing.

Very considerate of him, I’d say.
What would have been the best story ever
MM_in_NYC : 11/15/2019 7:46 pm : link
was if Jones somehow led them to the Super Bowl but couldn't play and Manning got one last game and came out SB MVP again.

In reality however his not wanting to play a meaningless game to serve no other perhaps than to celebrate himself while having to do it with a horrible oline and injury depleted skill positions is not some noble signal of virtue. It's just a normal response to a straight up dumb idea.
Eli should be at

the coin toss for the final game against the eagles. Fans can go nuts

Only an idiot would boo Eli. Cant believe any real Giants fan would do that.
I don’t know how to pull it off
BUgiantfan : 11/15/2019 8:32 pm : link
but Eli needs a standing ovation from the entire crowd. He’ll never ask to be recognized or go along with a contrived plan to honor him but he deserves it. At the stadium, there should be some fan initiated, Rudy-like, chant for him. Dude should be showered with ten minutes of ear splitting “E-Li” cheers.
Better yet,
BUgiantfan : 11/15/2019 8:34 pm : link
Don’t stop chanting until they put him in.

...and then he promptly gets a life altering concussion because the offensive line is shit.
I’m sure there will be
Steve L : 11/15/2019 8:48 pm : link
An Eli Manning Day next season. The fans will want to say good bye. Unless they wait until they put his name in the ring of honor type thing.

I doubt that he has a farewell press conference.

They had one for Coughlin. Peyton held one when he left Indy. Can’t see him not saying good bye to the Giants and Giants fans.
