Growing up, football to me was a cold fall day, Madden, Summerall, and LT bullrushing Jacoby. The Skins were a perfect rival — deep tradition, great burgundy and gold uniforms, and a devoted fan base. When I moved to DC in 1991, it was a helluva football town — I remember walking from Union Station with a tallboy in a paper bag on the way to RFK for a game, and the modest neighborhoods were alive with excitement. People drinking on their porches, grills smoking, music playing ... and everyone in the city had an Art Monk or Riggins jersey.
Fast forward to 2019: I often play a quick 9 holes at a crappy golf course near old decaying RFK. No sign of the fan base any more. No Redskins banners, no one wearing jerseys ... the loss of interest in DC is shocking.
I used to love to hate the Skins, but lately, it’s just pathetic. They’ve run the franchise down so much that ... forgive me for saying this ... I kind of feel sorry for the fans. They are just downtrodden, stuck with a soulless suburban stadium, all the tradition and passion just sucked away by Snyder and Co., as Eagles and Cowboys and Patriots fans fill their stadium on Sundays.
It sucks. I hope it doesn’t end this way for us. It won’t ... right?
Besides, this city is very much all about the Caps and Nats. As long as Snyder owns the Skins they will be a cluster.

The Redskins fans will awaken whenever they have a little bit of hope. They got damned mouthy in the early days of the Bob Griffin era, when they were convinced he was going to restore their glory days.

Great handle. Some of my best Giants memories involve that Rob Carpenter multiweek explosion in the mid 80s ... went to a game with my dad and he tore up the Cards, maybe 130 yards. Stadium was a madhouse.
Do I feel sorry for them? Hell no. Do you think they feel sorry for us?
As soon as they start a season 5-2 all those fans will rush back to declare whichever QB they have as the next messiah.

I don’t get this post. Are you saying their name causes bad mojo? Because they used to be an actually racist team and during those years they were pretty damn good.
Now it’s diminished as both teams stink, but the helpful skins gave us our only good win this year.

This shit with Philly and Dallas needs to be fucking stop and soon. The worst thing about the giants sucking every year is there’s no shit storm catcher in this division anymore. There’s no Jupiter. Dallas and Philly are left to ruin December and January football. Needs to stop.
