Jones has a shot at the Rookie Passing TD record

JoeyBigBlue : 11/17/2019 10:42 am
Useless info, on what’s been a terrible season for the Giants, but Daniel Jones has a shot at 28 Passing TDs this season. This would break a record currently held by Baker Mayfield of 27 Passing TDs as a rookie. He currently has 15, with 6 games to go. Jones has 9 in the last 3 games. So 13 in the last 6, isn’t unreachable. Not bad for kid, who’s selection the media questioned.
Unlikely

Jones started week 3. So If Jones finishes the season, he’d have 2 more quarters than Mayfield last year.

These crop of receivers have turn more than one 5-yard Jones pass into long TDs.
So he could break a passing record

That has stood for almost a full season?

Cool.

Obviously the fumbles are bad but other than that, where has he disappointed? To me he's playing at a higher level than most rookie QBs we've seen, and he doesnt have a whole lot of help, either. He makes excellent throws into small windows and doesnt have a habit of interceptions.
Hope he gets it

developing nice rapport as well with his rookie Wideout...

He’s seemed to learn from the interceptions he’s thrown as well.

The only person who seems to get a decent amount of separation is Slayton.

Why do you think this is useless info

Seems pretty significant to me. Jones has been a very big bright spot in this season.

Russ Salzburg the other day coined a word in reference to a caller who constantly calls into the BBKL podcast to ridicule Jones, the word, “Eliitis

Post Eli s benching I ve been surprised to find how many here suffer from the same thing.

Eli was great, but objectively it seems to me Jones ‘ brings so much more potential to the position.

Him throwing 28 TD s would be a big deal
Not to shit on Eli
The_Boss : 11/17/2019 1:30 pm : link
But Jones has looked worlds better than Eli ever did as a rookie back in 2004. And remember, Eli was considered an elite prospect back then. Jones wasn’t thought of that highly. I’m excited what the kid can do moving forward in (hopefully) another head coach’s offense.

Because it’s not really winning games. Obviously not all on Jones, but the season has been terrible.

The corpse of Jimmy Graham gets wide separation no one within 5 yards of him if you call a seam hitch combo against a cover 2, instead I've never seen so many tightly contested catches with wco spacing routes against cover 2.
Whoopee and Yahoo....

but really, this means nothing to me. He can be the next incaration of Dan Marino, Dan Fouts, or any other of the great QB's named Dan, but if he doesnt learn to protect the football he will be out of the league, and fast. Period. End of Story. I personally am still FAR from convinced the Giants have found "their guy" at Qb. This is a HUGE issue.

i agree. he certainly has flashed solid moments, even brilliant moments. But flashing moments in the NFL doesn't equal "will evolve into a franchise QB". Repeatability is what defines a franchise guy. DJ is not there yet and it is not clear he will take the next steps.
i guess this should make us feel better
japanhead : 11/17/2019 3:38 pm : link
about all the losing? it doesn't really. what if jones throws for 4 TDs again next week but fumbles the opponent 7-10 points and the team loses by 7-10 points? no doubt there will still be posters slobbing his knob.
Yea we don’t have the receivers
Giant John : 11/17/2019 6:00 pm : link
Or the blocking. Our best receiver is a rookie. Tells you something.

Not sure I'd agree with this. Slayton may be regarded by opposing defenses as our #3 threat, and thus assign inferior players to guard him or, in zone D, scheme accordingly. The logic goes back to the old BB quote "Don't let Cruz or Hicks beat us." So Manningham did.

That theory only holds water until you look at who is on the active gameplay roster other than golden tate.
Overall, I think he's been an "average" QB, which is borne out by
mikeinbloomfield : 11/18/2019 12:33 pm : link
any stats measuring system. Total QBR has him at 17, which feels right. The TD record is pretty meaningless, in the context of the other things he's done.

His passing stats aren't bad, but he generates a lot of turnovers and has been sacked a lot, some of which are his fault for holding the ball too long.

If you want to be optimistic, "average" is pretty good for a rookie with no OL, no running game, and coming from the competition he's used to. He should also get better as he gets used to the NFL. But that's not a given.
Jones putting up big numbers, yards and TDs...
penkap75 : 11/18/2019 1:03 pm : link
because we are always playing from behind due to our horrid defense as well as Jone's turn overs.
