I hope we can draft a good one before Day 2 is over next year. Biadaaz might not be an option, but Oklahoma's Creed Humphrey would be a nice consolation prize.
I actually have some hope for Nick Gates, so maybe if we can score a good OC and LT we are in business...
He was definitely better than Remmers. Going to be interesting to watch how he plays for the rest of the reason. Would be fantastic for him to develop into a starting RT.
I think Sy'56 said in another thread that if we drafted Chase Young we'd miss out on the top 4 or 5. I've said many times in the past that I hoped we'd cluster-draft some, but the Williams trade kind of threw a monkey wrench into that plan. I'd rather not wait until late Day 2 or Day 3 to pull the trigger on some OT prospects, but that's what may end up happening. We'll see.
and throw a Free Safety into the mix as the big need. I still think the biggest problem is the lack of a starting quality linebacker. I know everyone is high on Connelly, but potential isn't a strategy.
And that's the problem. We need OTs and OC and we need LBs and most everything but QB and RB. Who's got a plan to get it all.
No one. You do what you can with what you've got in free agency and the draft and take it from there.
Exactly. The starting point DG had was so void of NFL talent it's hard to fathom. We needed a complete rebuild of every unit plus a franchise QB. There isn't a fast way to do that.
Interesting. So you don't care that Jones is getting smashed by Â
Yeah, I care about that. I also care about him not being able to step up in the pocket. I also care about not being able to run the ball. I also care about having a Center strong enough to stone DT's and smart enough to call protections. In my opinion, your Center is your most important O-Lineman. We don't have any who are worth a damn.
(hint: he doesn't have any) because of lack of extended experience at C and bouncing around 4 teams--NYG were the only team to retain him, after cutting him once, iirc--I was met with an avalanche of:
<<the coaching staff likes him>>
The most dangerous 5 words in the NYG lexicon, and it pertains to almost all of the OL they've kept on a roster the past five years.
Gotta hand it to the 'Boys--one poster here acknowledged mocking them for taking Travis Frederick at #30 in the 1st round (+ or - a slot). He wasn't alone, most of the pundits panned the pick. They knew what they were doing. NYG, not so much: Halapio, yeah, he's good enough....
one of the biggest indictments on the current regime Â
is that they firmly believed halapio was the answer at center. almost arrogantly so. instead hes vacillated between being barely serviceable and flaming pile of dog shit.
i can overlook solder, and even remmers, but halapio was given glowing praise by both gettleman and shurmur. looks like they botched that one badly.

Well, LeCharles Bentley also wrote an article stating Halapio would be a top 5 Center. It's not just the Giants.
He should return to the starting lineup when healthy though because Spencer Pulley was embarrassing versus the Jets.
Nick Gates should remain the starting RT for the remainder of the season but we all know that Shurmur will just put in Remmers once he is healthy enough. The Giants need to determine if Gates is a legitimate option to start at RT next season. If he is that would fill a huge hole and allow the Giants to focus on using their assets to address LT and C.
Chase Young in round 1 and Wanogho or Mekhi Becton in round 2 would be a great start to the draft. They would then have an inexpensive tackle duo if Gates wins the starting RT job. I would sign two inexpensive center options, Ted Karras to start and Stefen Wisniewski to back him up. Halapio and Pulley should not return.
If Thuney hits free agency the Giants would be wise to bring him in. He won't be cheap but he is an excellent guard and has played center in college. He would fill in well at center where he would bring much needed athleticism to the line.
I think the Giants upgrade RT in FA. If the Giants land a talented C in the draft, I think the OL can be pretty good even with Solder penciled in at LT.
Solder would be the only weak link. You can scheme to protect that. Diehl had issues with talented ER’s so they helped him out with TE’s and RBs.
Solder, Hernandez, Humphrey, Zeitler, Gates

Fill in the blank moreso...

You can’t scheme away a trash Center.

True. Build from the middle out though. OC is as close to the center as it gets.
