Possibility of Trading Saquon

EliIsEliteX2 : 11/18/2019 11:58 am
What say BBI on the thought of trading Saquon this offseason? Do you think the team is going to be competitive during his rookie deal? Would they be selling too low to trade him after his lackluster/injury plagued performance this year? What type of return do you think he could command?

we have one of these a week
cjac : 11/18/2019 12:00 pm : link
there's no way they are going to trade him in the second year of his rookie contract
No
BillyM : 11/18/2019 12:01 pm : link
Reason being, because as part of rebuilding, at some point you have to keep some talent.

This cannot just be an endless carousel of ridding talent for picks, ridding talent again for picks.

With the right offensive line, this guy is next level lethal, both running and catching passes.

He stays. Continue to address weaknesses in draft and via FA.

this back in september and got flamed.. I honestly think it makes more sense than not. We have so many holes, and by the time we have a coach/oline that can utilize him correctly hes going to be broken down.

we don't have the foundation around him to really make him successful. Look at Zeke in Dallas? they drafted him when they already had the Oline.

Possibility of trading Saquon
johnnyb : 11/18/2019 12:03 pm : link
is somewhere between zero and none. Saquon is someone you build around, not trade off. With Jones looking like a legit NFL QB, we have two of the three pieces. A play maker at WR would be ideal.

We still have Saquon under team control for three years, including the 5th year option. I do not see the Giants trading him.

That was part of the situation with Walker too - he was an absolute class act.

My little cousin had Muscular Dystrophy back in the early 80's - he went to a NJ Generals event at Giants Stadium for MDA, but my uncle got him there late. Only one player waited for him after the event had ended - Herschel.

What will Barkley's body and contract look like by the time the Giants are even relevant again? You can't just pretend that isn't (or shouldn't be) a consideration. And it's part of the reason why taking a RB as the first step of a rebuild is a pretty clear indication that the GM didn't realize that a rebuild was necessary at the time.

I'm not saying they should trade SB, but that even if the rebuild goes perfectly from here on out, the Giants will have wasted a lot of opportunity with Barkley. And the idea of it going perfectly is wildly optimistic.

His body will be fine. People are acting like Barkley will be broken in 2 years. The over-sensationalism with Barkley and his career length is ridiculous. Yes, he'll be expensive - but unless there's some catastrophic injury, he's going to be a great player for probably another 8 years.

Spot on and well said. The rebuild started with DJ (who I think will develop into a top qb), and hopefully continues this year with Young or the LT from Georgia. SB will be a nice compliment to the rebuild but was clearly the result of an organization trying to get one more run with Eli.

Nobody in the NFL has any doubts about Barkley.

The demand would be enormous right now for him. We are so far away from average NFL team, they should shop him.

Send him to KC for Chris Jones, WR Hardman, and 3 #1s. (Plus a #3 for that shitty Williams deal and we can let Williams walk).

Quenton Nelson on the line would have the Giants further along than SB in the backfield.

I would do that trade is less than one second.

Unfortunately, no team in the NFL would spend a second considering 20% of that deal.

But until the offensive line gets fixed, nothing on offense will improve.

On trade downs or any move where one player gets you many :

The chance of your 'many' all getting serious career ending injury is exponentially lower than it would be for just the one having such an injury.

The OP asked several questions-- not just the 1st question.

What IF IF IF you traded him - could you get a very good deal for him and make the team better or is that impossible? I was against even thinking about it to start the year when a poster submitted the same type of question. Like many G-MEN fans I thought this year would be a "measuring stick" and they need Barkley to see how he worked out if DJones showed some promise (which he has).

But for those of you that have closed your minds completely to the idea (the chance is remote at best) which is fine but his 2nd question remains-- "Do you think the team is going to be competitive during his rookie deal?"

He asked a simple question. I see some posters on here ignored it and just blasted the OP for asking. It's a fair question imo.

As for the poster who thinks SB is a lock to be studly for 8 years - that's laughable. The 2nd year he already has been bothered by nagging injuries. Not saying he won't but to assume he is a near lock to be studly for the next 8 years is nuts.

--------------------
1--- What say BBI on the thought of trading Saquon this offseason?

2--- Do you think the team is going to be competitive during his rookie deal?

3--- Would they be selling too low to trade him after his lackluster/injury plagued performance this year?

4---- What type of return do you think he could command?

There is truth to your comments. Barkley’s entertainment value, when healthy, will help with attendance and merchandise.

OBJ also had great entertainment value. Awesome to watch. People came early just to watch his pregame act. But was he a catalyst for more wins? Seems like the team was able to be just as lousy whether he played or not.

Look, we all know the likelihood of trading SB is very low. I believe DG is very protective of that pick. And that may actually cloud his judgement if someone actually does come along with interest in trading for SB. I could see DG leaving a very good deal on the table because he overvalues SB’s impact...

Bill2 : 11/19/2019 2:31 am : link
I see the Giants coaches running him between the tackles to open a playbook of greater width for later in the game (that doesn't open ) rather than pass to him more often.

Go Terps is right in this case. Demonstrate he is a passing and running threat and then listen to offers after next year.

Very risky second contract under any circumstances and a downright poor second contract unless the team radically improves the OL and figures out how to weaponize a weapon

SB is a talent, but you can see the problems with using him enough. You simply do not run backs 30 times a game anymore unless you are playing our defense.

Agree. How do we rebuild by trading our core, best players

After what has happened this year I don't know how with any certainty you can say his body will be fine. He missed what 4 games and hasn't looked the same after a simple ankle injury, who knows what else could happen.

No one is going to trade a first round pick for the right to pay Barkley $17M a year. I can't imagine there's a GM in the NFL that stupid.

John Dorsey?

Nobody in the NFL has any doubts about Barkley.

The demand would be enormous right now for him. We are so far away from average NFL team, they should shop him.

Send him to KC for Chris Jones, WR Hardman, and 3 #1s. (Plus a #3 for that shitty Williams deal and we can let Williams walk).

3 number 1s plus Hardman?!? The Chiefs would have to be run by Gettleman's intellectually stunted twin for them to accept that.

When Barkley's camp is talking extension this time next year, I assume sentiment will be different.

Gurley and Elliot got paid after year three. No reason to think Barkley won't want his.
No, no, no

John Dorsey?

In fairness, Dorsey did get his bff to cover the signing bonus for him.
