NFT: Anyone own a TCL tv?

GMAN4LIFE : 11/18/2019 12:33 pm
looking to get a tv for my daughter as her tv is rather small.

Looking at the 40 inch tv with Roku built in. I know TCL has some good ratings on best budget and yada yada but want to hear first hand from some of you.

the only thing that sucks about the tv i was looking at is that it doesnt have an ethernet input.

do you like your TCL? if not, which tv do you have?

the limit is 40 inches and i would prefer roku built in unless you think it should be separate.
do you need

ethernet?
I have 5

of them in my house - from 43 - 65 inches. Great units for the price. Unless you're a AV head - you'll love them. Amazing ease of use. One little remote. Great picture. I'm sure there are better pictures, but the price point is perfect.

not necessarily just don't trust the wifi in my house.
TCLs are the best bang for your buck.

I have a 65 incher that my friends think is some high end TV, but its just a cheap (but good) chinese lcd.
Have 55 inch TCL with Roku and love it.
idinkido : 11/18/2019 12:40 pm : link
Great price and everything is good with it. With Roku you can get extra streaming sites such as Pluto, free tv.
I have one in my basement and it's great, no issues
Mellowmood92 : 11/18/2019 12:42 pm : link
I used it as both a stand-alone smart TV, and now have it connected to a cable box.

The only thing that I've found annoying is that I have to select the HDMI input every time I turn it on to go to my cable box, as opposed to it defaulting to the box. There's probably a way to set it to not do that, but I haven't gotten around to figuring it out.
I own two, a 55 inch

and a 40 inch.

So far so good. The only problem is the white light at the infrared input on the middle bottom. Boy is that bright at night.

Setup is easy. Roku works well. I watch all the Yanks games on the 55 inch, really good picture.
I have one

time will tell about the durability, but I got it 2 years ago for under $300 and have had zero issues and zero complaints with it.

I have an ethernet connection on the 55..right to my cable modem box left side of the back...
Why do you need built in

Roku?

One of my favorite things about the Roku is it's so easy to take it with me places.

1 less thing to worry about but also TCL's pretty much all have it built in anyway.

I'm guessing a 40" TCL is $200 which is next to nothing for what you get. If your Wifi sucks just add an extender which will help everything in your house, not just the TV.
I've got the 65" TCL
Someguy1978 : 11/18/2019 1:19 pm : link
with built in Roku. The picture is fantastic. For the price, you really can't beat it.
I have 2 of them
mgreenie03 : 11/18/2019 1:28 pm : link
I have a 43" series 4 that works great. I have a 55" 6 series that I have had a few problems with and have replaced one. The replacement has issues but I can live with them. The original 55" picture just died, the replacement just shuts off from time to time, sometimes multiple times an hour.

I have 2

in my office, never had issues. Great value.

I have 3 TCL TV's
JerryNicklebag : 11/18/2019 1:45 pm : link
and one Sony which was $2000.

The TCL's have better pictures, the Roku is quite nice and they were $350 on sale for the 55" ones and I have an old 42" for about 7 years now.

Great product for the price.
I have the OPP 65"
arniefez : 11/18/2019 1:58 pm : link
I paid $479 for it and it's in a den that's used occasionally. For that purpose you can't beat the value. It's about a year old and i see no issues so far.

It does not compare to a mid level Samsung. LG or Sony. But most people on this thread wouldn't see the difference unless they were side by side.
yeah for me the biggest thing is to have roku built in
GMAN4LIFE : 11/18/2019 2:00 pm : link
as opposed to separate.

It has an ethernet port. On sale this summer for less than $300.

Great picture with streaming and cable. For a new house, so I had it wired for CAT6 from the router to the set.

Really? That’s your biggest thing? I mean, sure it’s convenient. But a Roku is cheap and you just plug it in. Picture quality is by far most important thing IMO.

true but my kids need something simple and barely can tell the difference on the picture quality.
I have a 32" in the bedroom that I like a lot

I think it's a strong brand, very reliable. I'd buy a TCL before any other "budget" brand.
i have 1 TCL with Roku
markky : 11/18/2019 6:33 pm : link
3 samsungs, 1 new LG

I love the TCL tv. awesome, even better considering the price.

one of the samsung's is a piece of crap (external box for the smart component!).

regardless of price, the TCL is a good product.
I own a 50 inch Roku TCL HDTV
gmenrule-va : 11/18/2019 8:52 pm : link
And very happy with the quality. I have it next to my 50 Inch Samsung and above my 50 inch LG and 50 inch element in my man cave garage. It is the primary TV I use to watch sports on volume above those and the 3 other TVs I have in the cave.
I have a 32" TCL
elpeces : 11/19/2019 8:05 am : link
I think it is one of the first Roku built in TVs. The nice thing about having Roku built in vs. external is that the TVs will always receive version updates from Roku (at least that is my understanding), while older Roku boxes/sticks do not necessarily get updates and this can affect the UI on apps you watch. The Playstation Vue interface on Roku was lacking compared to Fire devices. They released an update that made it better but my older Roku devices couldn't get the update.
Any opinon on this one?

Overall quality?
Value (quality for price)?
IS this about the best I can do or do you thin knext Friday/Monday it will go lower?

My room is kind of small so I think the 55" will work better than 65".
