Going to Seattle for 6 days for Thanksgiving.Supposed to be cold and rainy.(what else) Any top indoor attraction suggestions besides the Space Needle would be appreciated.
Underground Seattle, there is a kids version and an adult one.
. And I don't know what the weather report says, but the rain in seattle isn't usually like you see on TV. It's like a step above a heavy mist most the time.
Next to Space needle. One of the coolest places i have ever seen. We had time to kill and it was part of the space needle ticket. It was my favorite part of Seattle.
That said, it's a 3 hour drive from Seattle to Portland. It's like telling someone that's visiting New York to stay away from Boston.
I wouldn't get too deterred by the rain - it's not like it's a constant downpour. It doesn't rain as violently as it does on the east coast.
If you change your mind and want to take a day trip to do something outdoorsy, Lake Quinault in Olympic National Park is an incredibly beautiful place.
bought one of the packages (harbor tour, space needle, aquarium, science and pop museums, etc.) They were all fine, some better than others depending on your interests. My wife & I enjoyed the science museum better than the pop museum, for example, although if you were really into video games or seeing a large exhibition of Prince, you might feel the other way.
The best thing though was the e-bike tour. We took this one. Very easy to do, got a great view of the town, the guide was a local history teacher. Not sure what the weather would be like, but if you get a chance to do this I highly, highly recommend it.
I will admit that bike tours are pretty much top of my list of things to do in any city we visit though, with few exceptions (NYC comes to mind).
but it's a great little town. I'd rather vacation there than Philly any day.
In my brief time living out here it looks like the entire west coast (including Vancouver) has a major homeless problem. I guess they never read Giuliani's playbook for basically throwing all the homeless into the East River.
I don't remember any names, we just walked around the area and went into ones that looked interesting.
I do remember some good local beers and it was also the first time I had smoked salmon (in one of the pubs they had an appetizer special - smoked salmon served on these crackers). it was so good I ordered 3 of them.
and then when I got home I bought a smoker so I could make smoked salmon. Which I still have yet to make.
but the road will probably (definitely) be closed by thanksgiving time, if it isn't already. olympic national park will be open all year. the road up to mount olympus might be closed by late nov, but that's just one small section of the park.
Pikes Market didnt wow me. Just a bunch of vendors hawking their shit.
Take the drive to Mt Rainer. Its breathtaking.
Last time I was there (last summer), I caught The Foo Fighters. I recommend that as well 😁
Did you do the adult one or family one? I had to do the family one because the girl I was with wasn't 21 yet and while I thought it was okay I got the jist the R rated version would have been much more fascinating. The guide was great though.

I was by myself so I did the adult version. Talks about how the city education system was initially funded by whore houses and the old hash market. Its great.

I was in Seattle in April, their homeless situation is pretty bad too. They were out in force, especially at night. And more than a few were pretty belligerent. It was an eye opener for me.

Yeah the homeless in Seattle seem to be more agressive than other places I've been.
Chihuly Garden - highly recommend
Pike Place Market -
Space Needle
Original Starbucks (right across from Pike Place Market)
Gum wall (fast, right by Pike Place Market)
Underground tour - heard it is great
Woodenville - if you are into wine, there are tons of winery tasting rooms up there. (Need rental car or Uber)
Bainbridge Island - Day trip; take ferry (it is easy)
Whidbey Island - Day trip; take ferry (it is easy)
Boeing Future of Flight tour - Mulkiteo (need rental car)
White water raft - tons of fun, number of places, just google search
Amazon buildings - cool domes
Microsoft - if you want to drive past and through the campus
Snoqualmie - skiing, check conditions
Deception Pass - pretty cool ( need car )
Casinos - there are several if you are interested in that
Chocolate - into chocolate; google Seattle Chocolate and you can design your own tour
Dicks - drive over to Dicks for local burger place
5 Point Cafe - dive bar in the shadow of the Space Needle
Katsu Burger - Japanese style burgers , a couple locations around the city
Canon - incredible bar
Rheinhaus - German-style beer hall with indoor bocce courts
Any brewery in theFremont and Ballard area, personally favor Reubens and Urban Farmer
Bateau - if you are willing to spend $$$$$$$ on a steak, this is the place
for the Giants-Seahawks game. We stayed mostly in the general area of the waterfront(we only had one full day there). A few things we enjoyed that were all in that vicinity
The aquarium was really nice
Ivar's Oyster Bar was nice
There was a nice Irish Pub we found too, called The Owl N Thistle
I only tried one local brew, called Mack and Jacks-very good
If you like airplanes, the Museum of Flight is great, as is Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection up in Everett (especially if you like classic WWII fighters or want to see a real Russian T-34/85) (about 40 minutes north of Seattle -- if there's no traffic).
Why?
Agreed, Pikes Market is awesome. You can easily make that an all day event. Check out the bubble gum wall disgustingly fantastic... lol

My girlfriend lives in Tacoma, I go there all the time. Stay away from Portland, Oregon.
Why?
"It's like a poor man's Philly"
I also like the museum at Boeing Field called The Museum of Flight. Lots of cool stuff from an SR-71 to the original Air Force One.
I also liked the Seattle Library.

As for Portland, its a little too weird for me.
Bastids.

- Chihuly Museum - it was somewhat otherworldly
- Pop Culture Museum - tons of fun
both are near the space needle (which I kind of found boring).
One other thing we did was a food tour - it was a blast!
Have fun!
