A.J. Epenesa

Chris684 : 11/19/2019 8:52 am
Haven't seen much discussion about him. He destroyed Minnesota on Saturday.

Let's say we win a few of the last 6 game and we are picking more in the 5-8 range. Chase Young would be gone. Seems the pick would likely come down to one of the top tackles or possibly Epenesa.

I guess the question is, is that too high for him? He seems like the real deal from what I've seen.
I'm not sure what to think about Epenesa
barens : 11/19/2019 9:14 am : link
but after the Leonard Williams acquisition, I don't see it. He's a good player in college, but he's not the quick twitch DE/OLB they need. Chase Young feels like a pipe dream(though stranger things have happened), but Isaiah Simmons is the next best prospect to me.
not sure what you mean by a pipe dream...

landing Chris Young.

Right now the Giants have pick #3 - behind the Bengals (who are taking a QB) and Washington (who literally mess everything up).

The Giants also have a game left with Washington. If they want him that badly - they can make it happen.
I'm not looking at players
idiotsavant : 11/19/2019 9:35 am : link
But at 280 the player you mention has the required heft to be part of a multiple DL / LB thing .

The question would be is he a learner and assignment sound and a player who loves the game.
Thing about one gapping front 3
idiotsavant : 11/19/2019 9:49 am : link
Is that your olbs wouldn't be just edge. Interior gaps also. Requiring some power and base.

As your ilbs need be quick and fast which usually means a bit too small for the A gaps.

If too small at olb for facing up a left tackle and too slow to pass defend...it's rarely very useful.

I think you've got to assume that even though Washington does fuck things up, there is no doubt they'd take Young with the 2nd pick. You're right if the Giants want Young they must lose the upcoming Washington game.
It would not shock me

to see the Redskins pull an AZ Cardinals this year and fall in love with a QB in this year's draft and quickly move on from Haskins.

They are a mess - but that might actually be a prudent move. The QB talent in this year's draft is (in my opinion) pretty impressive.
I've thought the same thing
mavric : 11/19/2019 10:03 am : link
If we are on the clock and Young is available, we run to the podium - no brainer

However, if he is gone (which I've thought a lot about), what do we do next?

To me, it comes down to (Edge) Epenesa, (Safety) Delpit, or perhaps (LB) Simmons. Of the three, I really like Epenesa. He's going to be a star in the NFL

I'm gun shy when it comes to drafting OT's in the early part of the first round, which will be a hot commodity of course. My preference would be to take (OC/OG)Tyler Biadasz with our second pick if he doesn't get grabbed in the 1st round and he's still on the board. Biadesz is the only sure thing who would do more for our line than the other highly touted OTs. Biadesz is plug and play from day one and would be a vast improvement at the center of our line. I haven't felt so sure of an offensive lineman in the draft since I swooned over Zack Martin.

Dream scenario: (1st rd) Chase Young; (2nd rd) Tyler Biadasz; all other rounds we draft OT's, Sfty's and LB's and hope a couple of them pan out
If Chris Young isn't there
Dnew15 : 11/19/2019 10:14 am : link
I would trade down. There's going to be some team that is hot for one of these QBs coming out and should be willing to over-pay like crazy to get one of them.

DG has to hit a grand slam in this year's draft.

Only way
TommyWiseau : 11/19/2019 10:15 am : link
we get Young is if we have the 2nd pick, he is going number two after the Bengals take a QB UNLESS some team wants a QB and moves up to 2.

What I mean is, this is the NFL, and things are never as bad as they seem. I highly doubt the Giants will lose the remainder of their games, and if things stay as they are, I can't even imagine the Redskins, as woeful as they are , passing on Chase Young.

Plus, the idea that the Giants would throw that game for the possibility of drafting Chase Young is just something that doesn't happen.
If Chase Young

isn’t available a blue-chip LT is as good of a consolation prize..

Young & Biadasz would definitely be a great 1 & 2
No I don't think it's too high for Espenesa
ghost718 : 11/19/2019 10:28 am : link
The so called gap between Chase Young and everyone else is being overstated. He's got a shot to be a good player, but the second coming of so and so,well that's every year.

Except there isn't a real blue chip T prospect in this draft. A whole ton of red chip guys though, some I like better personally than Thomas. We should be able to get one in the second and I wouldnt be opposed to a trade up.

I think there's going to be a lot of teams that will be making some power moves to get a QB in this year's draft.

I can't wait to see Sy's write up on this crop of QBs. I think there are several guys that would have been drafted ahead of Murray and Jones if they had been available last year.

It's going to be a sellers market at the top of the draft if you don't need a QB.
My plan as of now would start with
Chris684 : 11/19/2019 10:41 am : link
Conklin via FA.

Young or Epenesa in round 1.

Highest rated center or OT in round 2.

WR (deep class) in round 3.

No chance Snyder allows "his" pick to be shown up in the very next draft.
If we draft 3-5 in draft
Payasdaddy : 11/19/2019 11:04 am : link
Thinking we can trade down maybe 6-9 and draft either wirfs, Thomas,
Espensa ( I doubt it’s a fit but looked like a beast vs Minnesota)
If Simmons grades out top ten also
Haven’t seen anything in delpit that warrants top ten
Unless he is earl thomas, which he doesn’t play like
Would absolutely love to grab an xtra 2nd for a few pick movedown
Trade back and get two first round OT
90.Cal : 11/19/2019 11:26 am : link
Then take OC with the 2nd round pick... OL fixed for real this time...

Snyder hand picked Haskins because he went to HS with his son. He most likely will not move on from Haskins without giving him a real shot. All DC is talking about is Chase Young right now. We need to leap frog them to get him IMO.
It depends on how the draft falls
Jay on the Island : 11/19/2019 11:42 am : link
If Chase Young is on the board he should be the pick without a doubt. It's unlikely that Washington will pass on him so Andrew Thomas is probably the BPA at that time.

I would sign Jack Conklin for RT. Then add C Ted Karras to a 2-3 year deal.

If they land Chase Young in round 1 then I would target OT Prince Tega Wanogho or Mekhi Becton in round 2. If Young is gone I would prefer either Andrew Thomas or a trade down to acquire at least another 2nd round pick.

The Badgers played both teams
Jay in Toronto : 11/19/2019 1:32 pm : link
Young took over. He was all over.

Epensa made no such impression. Not even by a country mile.
Not really related to his draft stock,
BigBlueBuff : 11/19/2019 2:19 pm : link
but Epenesa is from the town where I live.
Epenesa is going to be very good but...
Torrag : 11/19/2019 4:39 pm : link
his skillset is too similar to the guys we already have on the DL. We need to diversify the defense and we're desperate for a playmaker in the secondary and on the Edge.
He reminds me of a Bosa or Watt
rasbutant : 11/19/2019 5:11 pm : link
But I havent watch enough of him yet. I thought the same with Zach Allen last year until I watched more of him and was disappointed.

This is generally how I feel. Young and Biadasz would be a homerun start to the draft.

After that all bets are off. If a quality OT is available to challenge Solder, go for it. Same with FS and LB.
If we can't get
TommyWiseau : 11/20/2019 6:19 am : link
Young, move down a few spots and draft BPA on the Oline there. Grab the best Center with our 2nd round pick. We need a complete overhaul of the offensive line. Maybe Solder will do better at RT?
