I’m hoping that my IPhone 7 will last until Apple releases next years new IPhones. I’m currently having to charge the phone twice a day and that’s with the replacement battery I got last year from Apple.
Two questions, Is it true that next years phones will be a huge upgrade from what they’re selling now? I’ve heard that and it’s more than 5G.
Second, if it Is true that it’s a quantum change, would the accessories they sell today be used on the new IPhones or would we have to buy new stuff like chargers and cords? I’ve already been burned by Apple changes and don’t want to buy accessories just to discard next year.
Apple tried to move to wireless charging, but failed. I'm sure they'd like to make the phone waterproof by closing that port (and speakers?) That would force all peripherals to be wireless. Not imminent.

The current phones are already waterproof. IP68 certified.
Rumor has it they will stick with the lightning port. But there’s no guarantee - they might switch to USB-C. It seems likely based on past releases that something “big” will come with the next phones, but again no one really knows.
Thanks. I have a Droid now, but I need a new phone and was looking to get either the 8 or the 11 on Black Friday
It seems like Apple has really stopped innovating and is now just in a feature battle. I mean better cameras and more useful Siri aren't "have to haves" in a phone IMO. Better battery life is important and stronger screen glass I guess, but those are both in the 11.
5G is a good addition, but if you need a phone now, not something I'd have to wait a year for. You will always be chasing "features" the opposite years if you sign up for a 2-year plan with a carrier and generally replace your phone when the two years are up.
And I do use a wireless charger for my iPhone 8 which only has a lightning charger. So unless you had to have a portable charger, you can still probably use the wireless charger for the next model (but that's just a guess).

While Apple has switched iPad to USB-C it has such a huge user base for iPhone on Lightning that it seems unlikely they will switch to USB-C for iPhone anytime soon. So Lightning-based peripherals are unlikely to be broken.

It’s waterproof now but only like in the sense it can resist small amounts of water or small amounts of time in water though right? Like you can’t take in the pool with you or something correct? Just making sure because I mean I’ve never tried that nor desire to but I can’t imagine the number of people who heard it was waterproof and tried to get in the pool with it thinking it would be just fine submerged in water for an hour or something
I dove in the ocean this past summer with my phone (iPhone 8) in my bathing suit pocket and was snorkeling with my youngest must have been 10 or 15 min before I realized it.
I thought it was toast, but when I got out of the water it worked right away. Even the speaker. no rice, no drying, nothing, it just worked.
I still wouldn’t bring it into the pool on purpose. It’s intended for mishaps.
Also, note that damage can compromise the waterproofing. So a phone that seems fine after a hard might not be as waterproof afterwards.
Saw it in the bottom of the pool the the morning at some point, dove down and got it, and it worked 100% when I recovered it.
It had to have been submersed at 10 feet or so for over 8-10 hours.
And that was the 8. The 11 has to be close to completely water proof by now.
still getting used to it - there are definitely huge differences -- no home button, much better camera and memory options, much larger and clearer screen and the phone is not really a lot bigger, faster operating system, some very convenient user shortcuts built in, easier signin with facial recognition, siri upgrades
so far we're glad for the improvements but it wasn't cheap and if the iphones still worked we wouldn't have made the move
