Next years schedule

jc in c-ville : 11/19/2019 1:17 pm
You may want to pour yourself a drink for this:

At: The usual suspects, Seattle, Rams, Baltimore, Bengals, Detroit or Chicago.

Home: Usual suspects, AZ,SF,Cleveland, Pittsburgh, TB or Atlanta.

This team needs to make a huge jump in talent/coaching to secure a 8-8 with that schedule.

The Giants were gifted an easy schedule this year and we're looking at a 2-4 win season.

Wonder if Mara took the time to look at next year and how much more difficult it is compared to 2019 and then rationalize the benefits of holding on to PS ?

I can't find any...
Ok

Thanks?
Oooph.... its really impossible to guess wins/losses more than a year

out, but that certainly doesn't look great for a 3rd/4th place schedule.

The Giants

just need to worry about beating the teams in there div next year.
is it really more difficult than this year?

Out of Conference
NE > BAL (especially on short rest)
BUF vs PIT - push (if Big Ben is 100%)
CIN vs MIA - push
NYJ < CLE (on paper at least)

Non-Division
TB = TB/ATL
AZ = AZ
CHI = CHI/DET
SEA = GB
MN < SF
DET < LAR

The AFC schedule looks comparable: 1 top 6 team (NE/BAL), 1 borderline playoff team (BUF/PIT), 1 bottom 6 team (CIN/MIA), 1 younger team with upside.

And the non-division games are similar: played Az, Det, Chi, and TB this season (will face 2-3 next year). SEA/LAR/SF are strong, but it's not like GB/MN are pushovers.

This. Every NFCE Team has the same schedule except for the 2 games based on schedule.

Let's start by beating Dal or Phil for a change.

*based on division finish I meant
The fact they have to go to the west coast twice
jc in c-ville : 11/19/2019 1:33 pm : link
Against two quality teams vs not having to go out west this year, makes it tougher, IMO.

Yeah, I get it about counting wins and losses but as a comparison to what I feel was a very gifted schedule for 2019 it doesn't give me a very positive outlook.
I looked yesterday ahead to 2020’s opponents

And it’s not pretty. It smells like another 4-5 win season is on tap for next year.

Depends on whose coaching.
How about getting to the point
Metnut : 11/19/2019 2:16 pm : link
where people see NYG on the schedule and think their schedule is tough?
I always find this to be pointless
terz22 : 11/19/2019 2:41 pm : link
Those teams will be very different next season. Plus injuries who knows how itll shake out.
So is there any doubt
GmeninPSL : 11/19/2019 3:15 pm : link
regardless how the Giants and Browns finish this year that this will be a prime time game? I would bet a mortgage payment on it !! Maybe even Thanksgiving night?

Most of the time for most other teams, this rings true. When you are (and have been) one of the worst run organizations in the league, the odds of you dramatically improving from what you've been (4-6 wins) into an 8 win or more playoff contender in one year are fairly slim. Especially when you have a buffoon of a head coach who couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag and a GM who somehow made the team worse after completely turning over the roster in his 2 years here.
Why would Mara look
section125 : 11/19/2019 3:19 pm : link
at next year's schedule? Because you think it is important.

I was just saying in general but yes for the giants its tougher lol.
This is absurd
LakeGeorgeGiant : 11/19/2019 4:02 pm : link
There is no way of knowing this far in advance how difficult that schedule is. Teams rise and fall all the time. Way too many variables and moving parts.

out, but that certainly doesn't look great for a 3rd/4th place schedule.

Since the realignment in 2002, only two games in any given season are tied to your previous year's standings.

Six games are divisional, those don't change. Eight games are on division rotation, so your whole division is playing them as well. The only two games that are unique to any given team are the two teams with the comparable final standing in the other two divisions within their conference that are not on their division's schedule already that year.

So there's not much there to benefit a bad team in the subsequent year's schedule, especially when you consider that, as a bad team, you're already barred from having yourself on the schedule, which is to everyone else's benefit instead of your own.

The whole "3rd/4th place schedule" thing has been rendered largely meaningless for the past 17 years.

You are a 2-8 team, there are no easy games or schedules in the NFL

There really are no easy games in the NFL. For those who believe in gimme games, how do you explain Atlanta beating New Orleans in N. O. Or the Jets beating the Cowboys.

If you don’t play well on any given Sunday in the NFL you can lose regardless of who is playing whom.

Every team in the division goes out west twice next season. Thee NFC East plays the NFC West. I don't think you can really make a case for sympathy when the other three teams in the division have the same situation so there's no relative advantage, at least within the division (and the same disadvantage exists for fully half the conference since the NFCW teams have to travel east just as much as NFCE teams travel west).

It's the same every year on here. Like people never learn how the schedule is made
