Two federal prison guards, who were on duty at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in mid-August when financier Jeffrey Epstein was found dead, were charged on Tuesday in connection with their alleged failure to properly check on Epstein as ordered.
Why it matters: These are the first charges to emerge from a criminal inquiry into Epstein's death, which has prompted investigations and the removal of the director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

not sure where you're going with this, but Epstein died in the MCC which is a federal prison and thus run by the federal Bureau of Prisons, which is part of the U.S. Department of Justice, at the top of which at the time of Epstein's death was AG William Barr, so I think that's the answer to your question as you've posed it. But again - not sure what you're suggesting by it.
Normally I'd agree with you - but the complete lack of oversight for a guy who the entire world was watching, who narrowly escaped death only weeks earlier - is just too much to overlook. I'm just surprised they didn't say someone left the front door to the jail open and he managed to escape.

such certainty, as if they have inside information about Epstein’s death. He may have been murdered, or he may have offed himself as a result of a couple of guards slacking off. Either is possible, but everyone here acts as if they know the answer. It’s our conspiracy mentality.

The genesis of most conspiracy theories, as I've seen them, is the natural reluctance to accept simple human incompetency is at the core of many unbelievable events.
Plenty of people had a reason to want Epstein dead. It's worth a rigorous investigation, and if any evidence north of a meme is availed, so be it.
This one was speculated as soon as the guy was arrested and then came to fruition. It's like thinking a mob boss is going to get whacked only to hear he choked on a piece of salami at the deli and sprung 15 piercings while trying to save himself.....
You're pretty naive and not too aware of how the world works if you don't know things are not as they appear.

But you would agree a coward facing down a lifetime behind bars as a child predator would also be a good candidate to take his own life. And that after having attempted to take his own life weeks before, it is a decent alternative to an unknown assailant of which there is literally no credible evidence exists, right?
Yes. A suicide is possible (and that's if one believes the first "attempt" was actually made). If one were to believe the reports, suicide was a credible threat. Epstein was on suicide watch with constant monitoring.
So then he ends up dead while guards aren't monitoring him (enough to be charged with a crime), cameras that normally record weren't recording and checks that were supposed to be happening didn't happen.
Conspiracy theories start with an outlandish premise and force people to take huge leaps in logic to buy into them. Neither exists in this case. Him being murdered is as plausible as any other result.

Why not wait until you're going to be behind bars for the rest of your life instead of just the possibility? Who benefits from his death before a trial? Certainly not Epstein.
My guess is neither will do any time, and despite losing their jobs, they will quietly be living large soon.
Sure... unless placing him on suicide watch initially was all part of setting the table for his fake suicide.
Who decides whether he is suicidal? OR.. maybe they knew someone would try to kill him and it was really a murder watch, not a suicide watch.
I'm not saying the dude killed himself. I'm saying the prospect he did isn't a wild improbability.
Now is it a wild improbability a guy who's got dangerous secrets about powerful people gets whacked in prison? Of course not.
The difficult hurdle, and a serious investigation is rightfully being executed, is lots of normal people are about to getting their live's really screwed over. Are they all willing to do this, presumably out of fear or money, to protect a killer? A killer there is literally no evidence exists.

Shame probably doesn't enter the equation, as you said.
The realization that his money and power weren't going to get him out of this one and the likelihood of spending the rest of his life in jail as a bottom rather than a top certainly did.
