If Shurmur is let go ,what would you thoughts be on...

NYBEN1963 : 11/19/2019 4:38 pm
John Fox as HC with Jim Caldwell as the OC and a you up and coming coach (Chase Blackburn) running John Fox's defense.Though I will say I do not think Shurmur will be let go unless they finish 3-13 or 2-14.IMO John Fox would be a great choice someone who can coach an entire team not just an OC pretending to be a HC,Jim Caldwell has a great reputation as both a OC and QB coach and would be great for Daniel Jones.Your thoughts guys...any other guys you would like to see if Shurmur is fired at the end of the season.I apologize for any spelling or grammatical errors using my phone while on conference call.

Roman would be a good choice

I think Rhule is overblown as a candidate, and I have absolutely no interest in McDaniels whatsoever, or any other Patriots assistant for that matter.

Not to mention the fact that he was a volcano of a dumpster fire in Denver.

I wonder what McDaniels knew about Indy that never made it public at the time. I thought it was telling the Belichick immediately welcomed him back to be the offensive coordinator.

I imagine a lot would hinge on the interview.

This and I'm not sure how he would be as a HC. His first attempt failed miserbly. How many BB's coaches have succeeded by themselves as a HC?

I've ruled Rhule out, too. I just don't see it. You listen to him speak and he seems more suited to the college game.

His work at Temple is way overblown and Baylor was going to eventually be good because it's a great institution with a good football history. And the talent rich state of Texas has a TON of prospects who annually want to play there. Once the Briles stink work off, this resurgence was expected. Give Rhule credit for steadying the ship, but that's not a turnaround like Fleck up in Minnesota.

I love watching his offense operate. Loved it in SF and Buffalo too. It's good to see a different approach taken, and it would be interesting to see an entire organization buy into it.

This team was in decay the year they won SB46. That's 5 years with the old management. It will take a bit more time to right the ship. A revolving door of coaches doesn't work. Cleveland has been a fine example. Give it another year to show significant progress. Maybe 8-8 next year with better days coming.

Agree. All this talk about new HC’s is a waste of time. He’s not going anywhere.

I mentioned on another thread, that Shurmur is 95% not returning. This is from a friend of a friend in the organization. I was not part of the conversation, but it was relayed to me. I'll see the person in the organization over Christmas and hopefully will get me solid info

I can't imagine a better Christmas present. That sounds like the glorious end of a Christmas movie, like finding the firing of Shurnur in the vault of Nakatomi Plaza as Ode to Joy echoes triumphantly down the halls.
I might think Fox for defense.

To gauge the fan bases approval of shorty coaches they are thinking of bringing in? I will however say, he would have been better than Shurmur as a stop gap for a few years.

But no way would I take him now. The next guy needs to be a winner. No more time for retreads and half measures. And Mara shouldn’t be in on the interview process. He should hire someone else to run the interview process. Of course he would F that up too.

Yes he is. McDaniel never accepted the Tenn job. He did accept the Indy job and then bailed.

Les in TO : 11/19/2019 9:33 pm : link
A coach who is going to find and empower awesome coordinators to delegate to for developing systems and game plans and who will deal with macro issues impacting the team: motivation, communication, preparation, player management, game/clock decision making. Fox and Caldwell would be my choices for coordinators but I would want someone else to be the HC. If he is itching to get back to the pros, I’d love to take a kick at the can with Harbaugh as he has had success everywhere he’s been. Between Stanford SAN Fran and Michigan, he’s never coached a losing team and took the 49ers from worst to first overnight.

Coach
Dragon : 11/19/2019 11:13 pm : link
I want one who understands he will and should have kids out there playing and learning. I don’t want to hear about complex defenses or high octane offenses let the guys show their talents or lack of it. I’ve seen enough zone errors and missed assignments or blocks it’s a simple game beat the man across from you for most of 60 minutes. If your play book only has 25-30 plays but it’s geared towards your players skills sets let’s go see who wants it most.

I’m not even sure who I want back on this team anymore other than a 1/2 dozen it’s time to really admit we’re lost and don’t have a true plan. When the trade deadline came and we traded for and not away many lesser talents I was flabbergasted. Those players who we might have gotten something for are proving they truly have no skills left and each loss only weakens whatever value they maybe had. Is coaching really as hard as this staff appears to make it seem?
Dave Te's podcast today...
Go Terps : 11/20/2019 2:58 am : link
Paraphrasing: Jim Schwartz makes sense as the next Giants coach. He could have had the job already but he didn't want it because the talent base was weak and he didn't want to work with Gettleman. He'd be more likely to take the job now because Gettleman's job would be next on the line. He touts Schwartz as someone who can build a program.

I would not be deadset against Schwartz but Te underscored the type of coach we really need.

SOMEONE who can manage, teach, and build.

enough with the specialist guys. it hasn't worked for us. We need someone whose got an eye for bringing in actual talent or building a successful coaching staff.

If Te is right about Schwartz having the ability to build a staff that can actually coach and improve the players I would support the hire, because that is what we need.

A specialist that's kept in a glass cage (mcadoo, Shurmur, even Spags) just hasn't worked for us. We need a guy who actually can build a team and staff.

he's in an actually interesting spot because who else would you want to help you draft and develop a new QB? some random hot coordinator? college coach? retread?

not a shitty game plan, but rather a coverage lapse and I recall Joe Theismann telling Ravens coaches how to exploit the player and the coverage. Our offense did not help, all things considered (Ravens defense).

He's coaching a deep and loaded defense. Put differently, a lot of DCs could coach that D and produce that type of success.

Which brings me to Saleh's personality. He's a big rah-rah guy who has a lot of spirit. That is the attraction...nothing else.

It's how fans think. Nobody can name any qualified coordinators that haven't been identified by national media, so they go to names they know.
