I can't imagine how difficult it must be as an owner and as a man to admit that you are not what's best for your franchise. The evidence is irrefutable at this point, and anyone looking at the situation objectively can see the Giants are not going to have any significant long term success until they get a competent proven winner steering the ship.
But just because it's obvious, doesn't mean anything is going to change, and that's why this offseason is going to be pivotol in the history of this franchise. I never thought I would feel this way in my entire life, but it has become so detrimental to my emotinal makeup to support this team, that at some point I'm going to have to cut ties. I know fans talk shit a lot, but it feels different this time. I think a lot of Giants fans are just fed up with obvious incompetence and years of depressing seasons and wasted support. It's one thing when your team hits a patch of hard luck, Loed knows we had some injury years under Reese and Couglin that would have filled a hospital wing, but this is not the same thing.
I guess the overarching point I'm trying to articulate is that if this franchise does not start making some objectively intelligent and well thought out decisions as far as who is going to run things instead of the owners, there is going to be a mass exodus of Giants fans unwilling to invest themselves into this version of their once beloved franchise. This team used to be such a huge positive part of my life, win or lose. Now it just feels like a neverending parade of ignorance and finger pointing with zero adults taking accountability.
So you want a middle manager to do that? The director level is not nearly consequential enough to get ownership's hands off anything.
What you're looking for is a team president sort of thing, but even then, a meddling owner can still meddle (see Dolan, Jim).

Anything to get ownership's hands off the controls.

*Puuuuuuuuuuukkkeeeee* Sorry every time I see Dolan's name in print I get sick.
Yea Idgaf what they call the position, just give someone with relevant experience, training, and success the football decision making responsibilities, and let ownership go on a permanent vacation and collect the profits.
That's why he should hire me!
That's how everyone used to do it before the travel budgets and scouting became a big part of the business.
This. Failing upward must be nice.
Not sure another layer of management is what you need. Competence is what we need. IF one of the Mara clan DOES have a job involving the football side and doesn't report to the GM, well thats just ludicrous. AND if he/she does report to the GM and has been the incompetent one and still has a job, well thats grounds for me to start cheering for the.....I don't know who else I'd cheer for. At this point I think I'd ditch the NFL, with its shitty officiating, unenforced, opaque rules and its total commercialization of everything imaginable, the only reason I still watch is the Giants.
Laughed at Jerry Jones for many years and he had many bad years until his son got more control. We still point at Jones when they don’t win after he amasses better talent than the Giants.
Packers don’t have a meddling owner but haven’t been winning a bunch of super bowls in the past 20 years.
Problem is when you are in a deep hole, every move is riskier.including hiring coaches, players, drafting and trades.
