NFT: USMNT vs Cuba

FatMan in Charlotte : 11/19/2019 8:05 pm
US up 2-0 in the early going as they seemingly are playing on my Grandmother's old cow pasture.

Should really be about 5-0 by now, but we keep hitting the ball into Cuba defenders posing in the goal and random mounds of turf that pop up like anthills
thanks

for the heads up that this is on..
What is there 20 people

at the game?
I watched the first half.

These games aren't helpful - if we played so slowly and with so many mistakes against a good team, we'd be punished with goals against. While it's great we're up 4-0 it doesn't prove much.

Field condition doesn't help, I know.

You are stuck playing who you play and it doesn't help. Also, how many of those playing would be considered 1st team players?

I understand you are stuck playing who you play - more of a criticism of CONCACAF than anything else. We don't improve playing teams like this and under conditions like this.

As to how many 1st team playesrs - you tell me who Berhalter's "1st team" is these days and I'll be able to answer the question. But I'd guess about 6 or 7 - not an inconsiderable number.

Concacaf...ha, yes about a weak as you can get.

I didn't recognize too many players, that is for sure..
Hahaha FMiC

...funny stuff. My daughter and I were watching too and she thought it was being played at a high school. Only thing missing was a grill spewing smoke in the corner with a line. Boy o boy... the men’s game is so disappointing in comparison to the women’s team.

FatMan in Charlotte : 11/19/2019 9:51 pm : link
they had metal bleachers and a pick-up truck parked just beyond the end line.

The game was being played in the Cayman Islands, so I'm assuming it was a high school field or something like that.

Well, the last group couldn't even make it out of CONCACAF into the World Cup so a number of them are gone now.

This is just my guess from following what Berhalter has been doing, but I think Guzan, Ream, Yedlin, McKinnie, Morris and Arriola are on his 1st team at present.

The Cuban national stadium (whatever that might be) is under reconstruction so Cuba is playing all its games in this phase at that place in the Caymans that you saw tonight. Really ... just not good visuals.
That was
Pete in MD : 11/19/2019 10:10 pm : link
actually Cayman Islands' national stadium.
The field offered humorous optics...
Pete in CO : 11/19/2019 11:55 pm : link
...but it was kinda cool, actually. In this day and age of pristine fields and mega stadiums, it’s nice to see that the games live on!
I saw that pickup truck and the double-wide on the other side of the bleachers.
If that took place at a HS field in the USA, it would be jam-packed w families. Cayman Islands aren’t known for their soccer..
Mexico
Pete in MD : 11/20/2019 12:09 am : link
had some trouble with Bermuda at home today. They went down a goal early, tied it up 20 minutes later, then finally pulled it out in injury time.
Guess we are stuck with
section125 : 11/20/2019 7:12 am : link
Berhalter as manager for 2020. Getting late to find a new manager and staff..

I was wondering where the game was being played. A HS field in the US would have had better field conditions. Cyclone fence, metal bleachers(small one), pickup trucks and construction trailers. Guess VAR wasn't an option.
I couldn't bring myself to watch the last two games, I knew they were

going to win, proving nothing and buying some breather room for Greg. I feel like as a Giants, Knicks, USMNT fan God has smited me and I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong so I can attone. Its pretty bad when the Giants are the shining beacon of organizational aptitude in your fandom.

The Knicks are so bad that I have not watched an NBA game in probably over 20 years.
type of game that is horrible for the team

US gets a win, mediocre players look OK, and the same sh$t continues structurally.

Still haven't watched a Knicks game this year. I'm not even sure I'm still a fan. James Dolan is the epitome of everything I hate about this country so it makes it difficult.
true the Maras not the same as Dolan

just a 'nicer' form of organizational ineptitude

Zeke - get a grip man. You are too coherent to say that. Dolan is a turd for certain. Lots of turds out there. Lots of turd sports team owners and Dolan isn't even the worst. I don't lose one minute of sleep over turd sports owners.
Dolan's..

Oh yeah if they were competive I'd be able to look past it, but when the owner is a joke of a man at what point do you say fuck it. I actually understand the plight of the Redskin fan. Seriously though who is worse than Dolan? Handed everything in life, treats his team like a tyrant, throws out my favorite player of all time, demands you kiss the ring, insecure little shit that hates drinkers. At least Snyder built his own company and bought the Redskins on his own accord.

You make a strong case. I may have to reconsider on Danny boy. Tossing Oakley should have led to a suspension from the league office.
Work Cup qualifying should become randomized.
Gmen1982 : 11/20/2019 10:01 am : link
Too many quality teams from Europe don't get it because they play legit competition, while teams benefit from shitty regions. We can't even do that but I'd rather see the best teams in.

Disagree. Part of the absolute beauty of the World Cup is seeing teams from all over the globe playing different types of soccer with different types of players. Having a dominant European World Cup with a few outside teams would be much less enjoyable.

Europe also had the European Cup every 4 years, which at least in part makes up for the difficulty in qualifying for the World Cup from Europe.
The way I understand it the Euro Cup is almost as big as the World Cup
Zeke's Alibi : 11/20/2019 1:38 pm : link
over there.
The World Cup should be comprised of the best teams.
Gmen1982 : 11/20/2019 6:20 pm : link
It would be fun to see teams playing all over the world to qualify. I’d rather see that than fucking Cuba.
