That Baldy breakdown is exposing one of two things.. Either Daniel Jones is incapable of recognizing what's coming or Shurmur hasn't given Jones the tools to audible out of situations like that...

I would think that it is DJ doesn't have the authority to audible. A play is called and the play is run. Pat is keeping the decision making as simple as possible for DJ.

#NYGiants have elevated WR Da'Mari Scott to the 53-man roster to serve as returner with Golden Tate in concussion protocol and Jabrill Peppers sidelined with a transverse process fracture.

I believe Shurmur scripts the first bunch of plays (this was the second offensive snap) so Jones may be able to change the play later in the game but it does appear like he wasn't even attempting to conduct a pre-snap read and look to audible.
Also, Shep sees the blitz, knows it's a designed run play, and makes zero effort to get in the blizter's way?
Penny screws up too. He is supposed to block the edge. He double-teams the guy on the end of the line and completely misses the blitz.

Golden Tate (concussion) and Jabrill Peppers (hip) not spotted at practice. Evan Engram (foot) and Rhett Ellison (concussion) on the side. Kareem Martin, who has been on IR since Week 1 and is eligible to return, participated in position drills.

I know this is an old thread, but I was listening to the Giants Huddle podcast with DJ. DJ at around the 9 minute mark indicates that he can audible based on certain indicators. Why he missed the blitz and didn't audible is a matter of another question.

Shep would not be the one to block Jackson...the QB has to audible out of it and then SS probably runs a slant right behind him...
