Chase Young

Giants : 11/27/2019 9:55 am
be smart play as many rookies and second year players you can. Find out in next few games what they bring to the table. Then draft Chase Young
yeah, he is a beast....
peteschweaty : 11/27/2019 10:14 am : link
but if they have the 2 or 3 pick they could bring back a huge haul if they trade down. imo dave g should have done that twice already. there are gaping holes everywhere on this team.
Neither will be an option IMO
Tim in VA : 11/27/2019 10:23 am : link
Cincinnati will take Young, QBs aren't desirable enough for teams to trade up for, especially with the cost. We'd better start thinking hard about who to pick at 2 or 3.
Never pass up a player like Chase

Bengals are not passing on a franchise quarterback

No they won't
I'd bet anything that Cincy takes Burrow
Greg from LI : 11/27/2019 10:37 am : link
But Young will almost certainly go #2. If they bump themselves out of that slot by finishing 4-12 instead of 2-14, I'm really not going to like that.

UConn4523 : 11/27/2019 10:42 am : link
I doubt we finish with the #2 pick - if we do we still might have to trade up anyway.

Still not a fan of a trade down. If Young is projected to be the next top ER then do what's needed to take him. I don't think the trade down crowd realizes how much of a difference he can make.

So just don't fix the defense? Sweet strategy.
If the Bengals do indeed
johnnyb : 11/27/2019 10:51 am : link
take Young first overall, and the Giants are picking 2 or 3, they should then trade down to accumulate picks. But if Young is available when the Giants pick, it is a no brainer. And who is to say we are not picking first?

I think it's at least a possibility Miami takes Herbert at 2. Or perhaps they could package their other 2 picks and move up to take an injured Tua.

It all comes down to...

- NYG versus MIA
- NYG @ WASH
- CINN @ MIA

The Giants game is Washington's best remaining chance for a win by a mile. The Dolphins have the Bengals and Giants as winnable games while the Giants have the other 2 teams remaining as most winnable.

I think Cinncy ends up with the first pick no matter what and likely takes a QB.
Barkley-Jones-Young
bceagle05 : 11/27/2019 10:53 am : link
would make the last three miserable seasons a lot more palatable.

The Tua injury really complicates things for us. If he slips a bit, there's a scenario where Burrow, Young and the Georgia left tacklw go in the first three picks to Cincy, Washington and Miami, which would really suck. Our biggest weaknesses on the field are OL and pass rush - we need to solve one of those at the top of the first round. I guess the fallback would be a #1 receiver, but we need to fix the trenches.

You don't pass up what most consider the best player in the draft at an actual position of need, to take a lesser player at a different position of need.
you don't trade down when you can pick chase young
GiantsFan84 : 11/27/2019 10:57 am : link
that is asinine. he is a game wrecker. you do not pass up the opportunity to draft him
Chase Young is the best player in the draft
Rjanyg : 11/27/2019 11:01 am : link
This is true. But Cincy needs their new QB to go with their new young coach. The have their Left tackle and their defense is still pretty good.

If you ask Cincy fan what they think the Bengals will do I bet they say draft a QB, wither Borrow or Tua.

Last year Cleveland went QB and let Barkley ( the best player in the draft ) get selected next. The same will happen next year, lets just hope that NYG has that 2nd pick.
We dont have a shot at young at 3
LakeGeorgeGiant : 11/27/2019 11:03 am : link
we would need to pick ahead of Washington and even then there is a chance Cincinnati takes him or trades out.

Not really apples to apples. I'm taking an ER all day over a RB if they are rated the same. But Cleveland had 2 picks in the top 4 so getting their QB made sense.

I do think Cincy needs a QB more than an ER so I'd put money on them going QB at #1 overall. But its far from a certainty.

we want Young, I think we'll have to finish with the #1 pick. I'm fine taking him, but am more amendable to listening to trade offers even if he's available. But it's moot, because the Giants would likely run to the podium if he was still on the board.

We are very early in the draft evaluation process, but I'm still inclined to think that Cincinnati would take him at #1. Tua will likely fall, creating the real possibility that they could take him after trading back into the bottom of the first round. The NFL graveyard is also littered with top five QB busts. There are no "can't miss" players, but the "bust" factor seems smaller for Young. He's also a local kid because he plays at OSU. That could help put fans in the seats while they rebuild.

The Redskins will definitely take him. Snyder would never allow the team to give up on Haskins after just one year, especially given their disastrous season.

Miami also has a ton of picks. They could take Young, and then package some of those picks for a QB.

Burrows is 100% going #1 unless washington has the pick. And if that's the case they probably trade the pick so someone can take Burrows #1

Bengals aren't passing up a franchise QB. Just dont see it. If they really thought Finley was legit they'd be sticking with him the remaining part of the season.

Redskins barring a crazy upset , only winnable game is us.

Bengals have 2 winnable (again barring a moderate or greater upset) and thats us and Miami.

Lol we control our own destiny if we LOSE out we pick #2 or even #1 if Cinci suprises.

What a stupid post.
I think Cincy goes for Young, too...
bw in dc : 11/27/2019 11:51 am : link
if they are in the first slot.

Their OL has been poor this year, especially not having their top pick - LT, Jonah Williams - out all year. So benching Finley for Dalton is less about Finley and more about trying, desperately, to get Zach Taylor his first W as a HC.

They have 16 sacks this year as a team. That's 31st in the league. So they are in dire need for a pass rush.

Then there is this - if they have another poor year in 2020, they will be in great position to go for either Lawrence or Fields.

I mentioned this yesterday. There is a caution sticker on Burrow. He's had a great year, surrounded by great talent, coached by a great OC in Joe Brady. But it's been only one year. I like Burrow better than Haskins, but Haskins had a great year too while surrounded by great talent.

Playing only one year in college should cause at least some pause...
Honestly.

I’d be idiotic to win another game. Lose out. Fire Shurmur, Draft Young. Continue the o-line rebuild, come back in 2020 ready to roll.
Chase
giant power : 11/27/2019 12:10 pm : link
Ravens stepped in shit with their QB pick. Lightning in a bottle on a late QB pick does not happen often and takes a bit of good fortune. Good for them, but we got our guy too. Now go get Chase if he is on the board for us and protect Jones with the second and third picks and a free agent pick up.

When you can draft chase young. That would be the dumbest move ever. A guy who plays edge or DE who can change games with fumbles sacks etc. you do not pass up on a talent like that. If we are talking anyone else in the draft other than young let’s trade down.

would have been begging to trade down instead of drafting Lawrence Taylor. Chase Young has insane talent and potential. You DO NOT pass on on someone like him...ESPECIALLY if you have your franchise (hopefully) QB locked up.
Past few years I've been a trade down advocate

watch the tape

I think they are both good. Thomas has 1 excellent pass block technique on tape that he always uses.

Wirf I am undecided on but people seem to say he has quick feet. I didn't see OT1 on tape vs Thomas. In this league you draft guys to pass block. Thomas has got the goods imo for pass blocking.

With one caveat...

Best case scenario for me would be for the Giants to lose out (in part because I want Shurmur GONE) and secure the #1 overall pick. I believe the Bengals could win 2 of their remaining games considering their schedule and especially with Andy Dalton coming back, and the SOS tiebreaker would go to the Giants. The Giants should then auction off the #1 overall pick to the highest bidder looking to take Burrow. The Giants will drive the price up and eventually settle for whatever the Bengals give them, which will still be a mini-haul just to move from #2 to #1 to make sure they get their franchise QB. Giants take the extra picks from Cinci AND draft Chase Young at #2. Perfect scenario to set this team up for a rebuild with a new coach hopefully.
