That win would have given the Giants a bye week and home field advantage in the playoffs. Antonio Pierce might have recovered from his injury with the benefit of a bye week, and the NFC was soft as butter.
I don't think the Giants would have necessarily made the Super Bowl that year, but one Jay Feeley field goal would have made an early Eli/Ben matchup much more likely.
I think you missed the point of the thread. There are upsetting losses and then there were absolutely devastating losses: Flipper Anderson, 49ers Playoff game, both Eagles "Miracle" games
Seahawks went to the Super Bowl that year and the Giants went toe-to-toe in their building. Eli made some grown man throws to Plax to keep all those potential game-winning drives going - one of the first signs that Eli had "IT." Sucks that they couldn't finish that one off, but we figured out how to win those types of games over the next few years.
upsetting is that losses haven't meant anything in so long because they haven't been winning. I don't feel excitement when a good play happens or upset when a bad play happens anymore.
Playoffs game against the 49er's is the most upsetting loss for my lifetime. I remember being very pissed after that Seahawks game, but Eli displayed he had 'it' way before that with the comeback win against the Broncos, and teased it with the last second win against the Cowboys in his rookie season.
i averted my eyes every time he attempted a field goal from that point forward until he was off the team. hurt so much because the game was there for the taking.
but the 2010 eagles game with the deshawn jackson return hurt worse than any of the ones you listed.
Plax shooting year. They win that and Arizona comes to a very cold and frozen giants stadium for the championship game. I was so upset watching McNabb on that phone

Also the Ravens Giants Super Bowl.
Those two are my worst
Brandon Jacobs was a shoe string tackle away from busting a long TD run and giving the Giants all the momentum. That play is burned into my memory, if he wasn’t tackled there then I think they win and go to the SB.
Winning that game I believe would have put the Giants atop the NFC and given them a chance at the #2 seed and a bye. THREE missed game-winning field goals. Not just missed FGs but GAME-WINNING field goals that would have been "walk-off" if made. 40 yards, 54 yards, 46 yards. Unbelievable.
I'm just basing my choice of this game on the fact that I was sick about the loss for much longer than the other 2 losses.
RE: RE: The purpose of this thread is obviously not Â
That game was so hard fought and would have been an incredible road win. I vividly remember being extremely pissed off at Jay Feeley. Funny, I can’t even imagine mustering 10% of the amount of passion I had in those days on this current sad sack team.
Worst loses in my lifetime as a fan (since about 02) Â
1. 49ers playoff game meltdown
2. Jackson punt return game
3. Jay Feely/Seahawk game
4. Quincy Carter MNF game
5. Opening night at Dallas 2015 (Witten catching gw TD)
6. Kiwinuka/Vince Young game
7. Tie- Eagles 63 yard field goal/Panthers 63 yard FG
8. 2009 game vs San Diego (allowed gw TD w/under a min and lost 21-20)
9. 2015 game vs NO, 52-49. Set them up for game winner by extending the game with a facemask penalty on a return
10. 2017 blow lead to chargers, fall to 0-5, and OBJ gets hurt
This list is only considering heartbreaking loses, not flat-out disappointing loses (a la game to close out old stadium, numberous blowouts in primetime etc)
I don't even remember 1 and 3, I believe that team was in free fall. The Giants looked like a juggernaut against the Seahawks and last because of a stupid kicker that got liquored up.
That loss to the Seahawks was so bad it got satirized on SNL Â
win game. So it wasn't all bad. There was another crazy game that weekend. The Knicks won like a triple-overtime game. Possibly the craziest sports weekend since I started watching.
. Three no one's mentioned though... Patriots game in 2015 was a game we had, last game in Giants Stadium vs. Carolina (I was there... BRUTAL blowout), and of course our last playoff game in Green Bay where Eli came out firing darts and our receivers let us down. That game made me feel so bad for Eli. He looked like Playoff Eli and his supporting cast turned it into 38-14 rout. Tavarres King was the only one to show up in our receiving core and OBJ punched a wall in the Lambeu locker room and had to pay for it. Tough night.

That Carolina game was brutal. After the game guy next to us stomps his food down and snaps the chair he was sitting in. Summed up how everyone was feeling
I actually don’t remember the Feely Seahawks game. Obviously he missed a FG and we lost but I don’t remember anything about the game, when it was, details, etc. And I know I Must have watched it....I would never miss a big Giants game. U fortunately, I still remember the Flipper Anderson td...

The 23-22 loss in last minute to Randall Cunningham Vikings at home belongs on this list. That was a great Giants defense. The team was on a roll and a t home. No way they should have lost that game. Brutal loss. I still remember the feeling 22 years later.

It was brutal. I had to actually leave game early for a family thing and listened to meltdown on car radio...
I don't even think those 3 are bad

The Fumble
The DeSean Jackson punt return game after leading 31-10
The stupid 49er game where we botched the FG after being ahead by over 25 points.
and say that nothing will ever top the Flipper Anderson game. I was a freshman in college home for winter break and I can remember being so angry that I went for a very long walk.
After that, the 49er playoff meltdown, the '08 playoff loss to the Eagles, and the Super Bowl loss are way up there.
I hated that Seahawks game in '05 and remember going out ad splitting wood for the fireplace for a bit after that one. The Titans loss was infuriating because it was like a slow motion car crash.
and the Cowboys. After starting the season by finally exorsing the deamons against Kurt Warner and the Rams, the Giants fell in a hole against Dallas until a flurry of plays by Kerry Collins, Toomer, Shockey and Co. clawed back the lead for what should have been a thrilling come from behind win. With like a minute (or less?) to go, Brayant kicks the ball out of bounds, Dallas gets a big chunk play and kicks a GW FG as time runs out.
Sucked all the mojo out of the team going forward. I remember thinking, even thiugh it was only like the second or third game of the season, that the Giants were fucked. And they were.
At least that put the team in postion to hite Tom Coughlin and draft Eli.

It was like 11 seconds. Bryant kicked the ball out of bounds, so the ball starts at the 40. Carter throws a quick pass to someone, gets in FG range, the PK (I think it was Billy Cundiff) nailed it and Parcells runs onto the field jubilant.
Matt Bryant was an absolute fuckup here. I am shocked that he was able to carve out a great career in Atlanta.
I was sitting crammed into the back of a Honda Civic 3 deep driving home from VT hitting major traffic. 7 hour drive became an 11 hour drive. I ended up drinking way more than I wanted to and showed up home completely shit faced. Listening to that on the radio added to an absolutely unbearable experience.
Because that would've won in a landslide
+1 That Flipper game was a dagger in my heart.
I don't think the Giants would have necessarily made the Super Bowl that year, but one Jay Feeley field goal would have made an early Eli/Ben matchup much more likely.

And even after Kiwi's blunder, Eli threw a bad pick on the next possession to set up the GW FG as time expired. Pac Man Jones perhaps?
I did remember leaving the house to go for a walk lol...
The Seattle game was a game we expected to lose, being on the road, and the fact we hung with Seattle was still a good sign.
It's just comparing these 3 specific games which are clearly not quite on the level of the San Fran WC game, Flipper Anderson, Desean Jackson, etc.

I threw a pint glass at the wall after that one. I've matured since.

Haha. I think there was a sip or two left. Just felt like we had that game multiple times.
That hurt.

I mean... if you read the comments it certainly doesn't look like that's obvious to a lot of people.
I thought it read you’ve “muttered” since.
LOL
yep...been there
Surrendered a 25 point second half lead and then botched a field goal attempt - with some really shitty officiating tossed in for good measure.

No regular season game can come close....there were a couple of playoff game, a couple to SF that hurt....but a Super Bowl loss is the worst.
Beating the Viking the game before....was probably the best home win, ever...
That hurt.
The Flipper Anderson game was a Divisional Playoff game. With a win, they’d have to go to SF for the nfc championship game.

Blowing a 3 TD lead stuck with me foe a few weeks
