It's pretty obvious he mailed it in. Like I said, I can't blame him. He's risking injury being out there. He's going to be a top-3 pick and will get multi-millions in a few months.
He is not mailing it in, I don’t even know how you do that, if you are on the field, you’re in danger of getting injured.
I think Michigan is doing a very good job of handling him and throwing different and multiple blockers at him. Simple as that. Think that sometime expectations are so sky high, people expect him to be in on every play.
How do you do that? By playing with little effort so as to not get hurt
It's pretty obvious he mailed it in. Like I said, I can't blame him. He's risking injury being out there. He's going to be a top-3 pick and will get multi-millions in a few months.
The problem is: How do you know whether he's half-asking it or just getting outplayed? How does a scout know for sure?
Look at him. He's not hustling out there. He's going through the motions. It's pretty clear he's not going at full speed.
As someone said, Young was doubled a lot. He frequently got pressure when he wasn't. I also don't blame him for doing everything he can to protect himself. This game was a rout by the end of the first quarter.
That FG at the end of the first half by Auburn, where they got the extra second added back on to run the FG team on without a timeout, was a huge moment...And it exposed a huge flaw in the replay system because the review basically gave Auburn a 4th timeout.
RE: Saying mailed it in is a terrible case of confirmation bias. Â
If he didn't want to risk injury he'd just sit it out.
No confirmation bias from me. I couldn't give a shit about Michigan or Ohio State. But it was pretty obvious from watching the first few plays that Young wasn't playing with the same intensity that he usually plays with. He looked basically disinterested. Sure he was double-teamed on many plays, but there were instances where it was one-on-one and he just kind of went through the motions. He set the edge on a few plays but overall he just looked apathetic.
That's the sense I got. But I do agree that he should pull a Bosa and sit out for the rest of the season.

I don’t even know where to start with this...so he comes back from suspension last week and puts up a dominant performance against Penn State, but decides at some point during the week that he no longer cares and he’s just going to go through the motions? Couldn’t be further from the truth. I respect what you’re trying to do evaluating prospects, I really do. But if that’s your evaluation from watching that game, well then might want to go back to the drawing board. Brutal

Uhhh yeah? He cemented himself as a top-3 pick with that Penn State performance. Why would he exert any energy and risk getting himself injured and thereby costing himself millions of dollars? He had a "pedestrian" game today because he wasn't really trying out there. That's my take. Michigan's O-Line did a fine job containing him and not to take anything away from them, but it was pretty obvious from the get-go that this Chase Young wasn't playing with the same intensity that he played with last week.

I think that’s pretty lazy scouting, and just flat out not true.

Once Young was suspended he should have stopped playing completely to prepare for the draft. His status as a top 5 pick was cemented.
I admired him for coming back to play. Not sure what the motivation was but I think he wanted to chase a sack record and be part of a championship team. Big10 and national championship.
But I can’t imagine any player in the Ohio St v Michigan game, a game with such a rich tradition, ever deciding to play that game half-ass. There is just NFW. There is too much on the line. So I don’t but for a second Young went into that game with less motivation. It is drilled into their heads to crush each other. And more so for Ohio State actually. Just read some of the postgame quotes from the Buckeye players. They are always focused, thinking, and preparing for this game. It’s a total passion for them and a deep part of their culture.
Maybe Young was just off yesterday. Too fired up so he tried too hard. Maybe Michigan game planned for him very well. I’m not sure. I don’t really know, but it just doesn’t add up given all the variables for Young to play with a lower gear.
Completely out coached Fleck yesterday. Like master vs pupil, this game was important to Wisconsin.
He was 3 steps ahead of Fleck all game. The pass to Cephus, the screens to Fergy and Grosheck, and the trick play on the kickoff, all had Fleck looking around like he'd just been pantsed.
He gets 1/10 of the publicity because he doesn't have a catchy slogan and doesn't attract attention, but give me Chryst as the coach of my team 10/10 times.
Its confirmation bias and I"m sure you have Chase Young up on your Â
scouting big board and want to justify keeping him there. Do you understand this rivalry at all? Nobody is mailing in this game, and if you don't understand that I don't know what to tell you. If he was going to mail it in he wouldn't have played, period. He did get taken out mentally a bit because of Michigan's game plan. Happens and hopefully it is just because it was new territory for him. I wouldn't worry about it unless some other red flags pop up in the scouting process.
PJ Fleck - I was super high on him, took Minn last night, and texted Â
my buddy mid game "PJ Fleck is straight up getting outcoached right now, won't see that happen very often". He was in my top 3 for next Giants head coach, but he just laid an egg in the biggest game of his career.
BW - exactly nobody is mailing that game in. It's fucking absurd Â
If he didn't want to risk injury he'd just sit it out.

He certainly was held on a number of plays, but it was pretty obvious he wasn't going at full speed. Whether that's because of injury or disinterest or getting frustrated by being held I obviously can't say, but it was obvious from the get-go that he wasn't playing with the same intensity that we've seen in the past.
But I was in the personnel department when we recruited him and keep in contact with those still there so yeah I do have some insight. I think you’re way off base but I’m moving on

Exactly
No effort at all. As I type that they block the punt.

So you decide to run it up middle. What an unbelievably stupid play call.
Their last TD was widcat up the gut, he just spung it to the right
Yeh I wasn't sure, it ended up off tackle. But when you see that just call the play.
Nearly fumbled that INT return before crossing the goal line. Looked like his teammate knocked it loose.

Hilarious how many Badger 'fans' were ready to bail out after the second play.
Now we get to play that NFL team next Saturday!

He could have been banged up, any number of things. Or he just had an average game, which happens to even the best of the best.

Nick Saban's record against Auburn is only 10-8.
All 10 wins were against an Auburn team that finished the year with 8 wins or less.
All 8 loses were against an Auburn team that finished the year with 9 wins or more.

This isn’t new news. Kyles been posting here since he had that job.
This is also a dumb argument. What isn’t dumb is that Wisconsin is going to push OSUs shit in in Indy. Can’t wait!
