when it comes to coaching staff. he also still has to pay shurmur three more years of salary whether he's fired or not. unless shurmur resigns, which it looks like he already has mentally.

Please name a time in recent history when they Giants lost out on a coach because of salary. I don't think one exists.

Yeah, I used to think the Maras were cheap. Came to realize they (Wellington & John) are ineffective as football guys, but they're not cheap.
I also think they've been kind of lax about maximizing revenue. They have traditionally thought about the league more than the team. That's kind of noble of them, but it hasn't helped them compete with Dallas, to name one example.
I have no idea if Harbaugh would be better in his second stint in the NFL, but it won't have anything to do with some mostly meaningless college football game. I guess you think twice if you're a Giants fan who also happens to root for Michigan or Ohio State? But personal biases aside, who cares?

that might be more in regard to assistants/coordinators than head coaches. and it might no longer hold. i know they ponied up to keep spags after the 2007 season when he was flirting with the redskins.
that said i can't see the giants ever doing something like the raiders did to get gruden.

This narrative has been around about the Maras since the 60’s. Don’t confuse the arising facts, that doesn’t play well here
The Harbaugh's are great coaches and teachers. Look at the fantastic job John Harbaugh has done in Baltimore. Every year they develop these mid to late round picks or UDFA's into excellent starters. They lose key pieces in free agency often but they are instantly replaced through excellent drafting.
Both coaches are excellent at building their schemes around their players strengths. I think Jim Harbaugh is an asshole but I would love to have him as the next HC of the Giants. He would turn things around in no time.
Actually dreamt about this Thanksgiving (hammered and stuffed)
I don't like either but people have been talking up Meyer for years
He got chased out of Ohio at because him and every other coach paid players
Totally honest question why is Harbaugh better than Meyer

“Better in his second stint in the NFL” ?
He took the 9ers from a 5 win team, to 13-3 in his very FIRST season, to a super bowl in his 2nd season coaching the team.
And apparently the Maras didn’t give a shit that Shurmur had an ACTUAL shitty first stint in the NFL.

Did anyone say Harbaugh is better than Meyer? I mean if they did I guess the one point emphasis would be that Harbaugh has an actual track record as a successful NFL head coach. Meyer as an NFL HC is still a question mark.
But I don’t think this thread is about one being better than the other, I think there’s question as to whether we could land either much less have our choice of both. I would prefer either one over Shurmur though.

Harbaugh has won in the NFL. He did a great job improving Stanford and while he hasn't beaten Oho St., Michigan is much better than they were under the previous coach.
Meyer did a great job at Florida and won big at Ohio St. However, is winning big at Ohio State that much of a reflection on how good the coach actually is?
but it was largely rumored that Coughlin lost out on Gregg Williams because the Giants balked on his salary request, which would have made him the highest paid DC in the league at the time. They ended up losing him to Washington.

Matt Rhule is the guy I would like to pry from college ball.

And the Giants will be Giants

Did he not do a very good job with the Niners?

Unfortunately.
I'd be very very happy with him, Rivera, or Tomlin. Anybody else realistically availible would range from meh to nightmare.

Coughlin was pretty damned animated...
This
It boggles the mind the amount outcry to have this guy as hc. I guess everyone here does love futility. Then i hope so.

Not this slippery slope..no. But, not with Jim Harbaugh. If anyone, i'd be on the side of Rhule, though, a little skeptic of him
