Out of his kids. Weakness is he changed his OC every year and wore out a lot of assistants. Flood should have never been interviewed when they balked at Cristobal wanting His own staff. He’s the HC at Oregon. The. Hired a guy who was even more inept than Flood at recruiting in Ash . .
Act 2 needed to happen. No one else was hiring him as a HC and.Rutgers would have had a really hard time convincing anyone else to take it except maybe. Butch Jones. And after this Schaino back and forth that was pretty unlikely.
This will help a little, but I hope they’re not expecting miracles. Rutgers just doesn’t belong in the Big Ten.
They are. I went to RU, know a lot of diehard fans, and go to a Rutgers "BBI" frequently. The fanbase expectations are unrealistic. Truth is the talent level at Rutgers is no better than at a place like Villanova or James Madison. It will take many years to turn that around, or more because kids only go to RU if they can''t get a "good" scholarship.
Schiano knows this, which is why he wanted an 8 year deal. The fan base is expecting to be competitive right away
Should be a big time program. Unfortunately too much interference from social justice administration and officials insisting the intramural transgender Frisbee team gets equal funding as men's football holds the program back.
They are almost certainly the worst P5 team in football.
That said, the idea they can’t be competitive in three years is misplaced, in my view. Im not sure if you were being intentionally hyperbolic, but the talent level is not at Villanova level. It’s also no where near Big 10 East level. It can be somewhere in between.
With the way college football is set up today (see: transfer portal, early signing period) you can turn programs around much more quickly. With massive facility upgrades on the way, the largest assistant coach salary pool in school history by a mile and a rejuvenated fan/donor base, Rutgers should be making good headway by Year 3 (4-6 win seasons).
Rutgers biggest issue has been horrendous, horrible, pathetic recruiting. That is Schiano’s greatest strength and the rumored assistants as well. Give it time, he’s the right man for the job.

Schiano started to do a decent job of getting tier 2 players out of Florida before he left RU a few years ago.
I think this will be even more difficult than the first time around. The team is at such a low point, I don't know how he gets decent players to come here.

I’ve heard Fran Brown is likely to be on staff. If Schiano can unite North and South Jersey he’ll be better off locally than the first time. Brown might be the best recruiter in South Jersey. If he can get both Campanile’s as well, they’re going to be really solid in state.
Rutgers basically gave up on Florida when Schiano left, but words cannot express how poor a recruiter Chris Ash was. He had the charisma of napalm. I think Schiano will start to hit FL hard again, it’s definitely going to take time to build up relationships there though.
The key thing this year will be the portal. Have to get an army of kids in. Hearing some good names interested already.

Agreed - First thing I do if I'm Schiano is get Fran Brown in and get one or both Campaniles on board. Heck I'd offer Augie Hoffman - get the state on lock.

Actually as a multi-decade fan and alumni I am not stretching what I believe at all. I firmly believe the current level of talent on RU would not beat James Madison, and I frankly am not sure RU would even have made the FCS playoffs (which did include Villanova briefly). Who has Rutgers beat, UMass (a 1-11 team who may be the worst team in college football) and Liberty by 10?
I honestly, not kidding, see no signs that this team can play FBS football. I mean even Illinois and Maryland toyed with them. You can't just snap your fingers and turn this around. What kid who is a decent player, wants to come and play here. Even if you find 1 or 2 "good" players, that can play at real Big 10 programs, who want to come here thats no where close to enough

That's not true. Right now, they don't have a QB. Its impossible to compete with the tight end they have at QB this year.
If Sitkowski stays, they have their QB the next few years. He can play. The have 2 future NFL players at RB. The offense can work next year if Schiano keeps these players.
He can identify talent at the HS level and recruit talented 3 star kids. Situation was hopeless with the kids leaving. Schiano may be able to keep them. Top priority right now is to keep the QB from leaving.
Not that you necessarily need confirmation, but from the Wisconsin side of things he was going to come to UW with the one caveat being if Schiano returned. Seems like this is what he's been waiting for and will commit to RU.
I personally don't think he looks that great on film, but the services who probably know more than me rank him highly.
also his history of sending players to the NFL will certainly help.
He wil get some 4 star recruits maybe even a 5.
He has being an NFL coach on his resume
He is friends with Lil Bill
His former players will help him recruit
Rutgers is an excellent school
Almost all his players graduated
new facillities will put Rutgers on par with Big ten schools
Should be fun to watch
also recruits joining the mile high club on the Jet Â

He likely won’t get on the field at RB at Rutgers in the near term. Pacheco is an NFL player and the rest of the RB room is also pretty strong.
I think he’s a take at RB with a likely position change to safety if he doesn’t explode.
