Very telling photo of the stadium today

from the NY Post.

Empty seats are louder than boos and Packer fans.

Miserable weather, crappy team

Only people who would sit through that one are die-hard Packers fans.

Almost every one of those empty seats
BlueHurricane : 12/1/2019 6:18 pm : link
Is paid for and has had a ridiculous PSL sold for it. Mara and Tisch laughing all the way to the bank.

sales will all be down. Say what you want but those empty seats will only grow for Miami game and Philly game will be 75% Eagkes fans...
I had that contract all filled out
jcn56 : 12/1/2019 6:23 pm : link
I balked because I didn't want end zone seats, and because I figured paying money for the obligation of buying tickets year in and year out didn't make sense.

Best decision I've ever made, being financially vested in this shit would be really painful.
I remember
Eric from BBI : Admin : 12/1/2019 6:24 pm : link
the big selling point for the stadium was supposed to be how cool it looked at night when lit up blue.

Well, most of the games are during the day. And even at night, the effect isn't that impressive.

It's a horribly boring and drab stadium.
I understand that season ticket holders don’t want to lose their PSL
KentGraham : 12/1/2019 6:25 pm : link
But that’s a sunk cost and this team is just terrible. How do you justify continuing to throw thousands of dollars per year into this garbage franchise?
weather was more of a factor
jestersdead : 12/1/2019 6:27 pm : link
than the team/record, add in the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I was there today and the rain/hail was miserable. If the team was .500 it would have been a packed house.
I was lucky enough to sell my tickets weeks ago
sems : 12/1/2019 6:27 pm : link
Sold my Eagles tickets too. Third year in a row that I have no desire to attend a December game. Maybe I’ll mail my Dolphins tickets back to Mara so he can resell them for $20.

If week 17 for the Eagles is a “win and in” scenario, that 75% number will probably price to be a conservative number. The Eagles might as well bring up their cheerleaders and their mascot, Swoop and make it home game #9.

Most guys who have that much money are competing with the other owners, they're not money-grubbing that way. Yeah, they like making money, but they've got plenty anyway. I think the Giants' performance over the last three seasons is humiliating for Mara & Tisch, especially Mara. Tisch has his Hollywood business, the Giants are a side gig he inherited. (Which is a problem in its own way.)

You basically just said that if the Giants were tied for 1st place in the division, the stadium would be full.

That's a hell of an "if".

The shit hole stadium built with the Jets and the PSLs will be written about as the day the Giant fan base died. In typical Mara fashion the Jets design would have been awesome but the Mara's ego had to build their own stamp of bland. Met Life Stadium is John Mara.

Moving out of Yankee Stadium to NJ was a really really big deal. Most of you weren't around for that and like all Wellington history it's been whitewashed. It was a very unpopular move and a money grab.

But Giants Stadium in the mid 70s was a football palace with amazing site lines and the last row of the upper deck in the corner of the end zone was a better seat than most of the seats in Yankee Stadium for football.

The parking lot was more fun than the games until the mid 80s but it was an event and a great experience. Tickets were hard to come by and it was a treat every time I attended.

I've been to one game in the new dump. I turn down free tickets in nice weather even before the season is lost because it's a horrible experience in every way. The PSLs and this stadium even more than the laughing stock he's turned the team back into are going to be John Mara's legacy.

If they aren't embarassed by that picture
chuckydee9 : 12/1/2019 7:00 pm : link
they should sell the team.. Regardless of the amount of money they banked today.. any owner of the team should hate to see that picture...

More than anything, it's the ticket price. I've been going a long time, coughed up the grand for the PSLs. My nosebleed is 850 a year, plus 300 for the parking pass. People dump tickets on stubhub constantly now. The entire feel has changed as a result. It won't change if we ever get good: folks will continue to sell attractive games at a premium to away fans to recoup costs. Lower level and mess seats are the corporate crowd to a large degree. Basically the Giants have priced themselves out of a true Homewood advantage

I sold after 2013
I used my seats for 2010 & 2011.. with friends , we hated the game day experience
Everything you thought was going to be great, wasn’t....

Stubhubbed them 2012 & 13... That got to be a chore...

So after 35 years....
Sold my psls (upstairs) for a little profit and never looked back or regretted it.... it was liberating

Adds up to $18,000 in tickets I didn’t have to pay for over the last 6 years

No Brainer

I’ll always have great memories of Giants Stadium those days were the best
Even the 90’s

The first sentence is accurate, not quite sure about the second. The original design proposal for a Giants only stadium was to mimic Pittsburgh's - I believe Neil Best tweeted this out several months back while cleaning out his memorabilia. When the Jets entered the picture that design changed, and the Jets were the party in favor of the retractable roof that they could not afford without the state chipping in.

All moot anyway.
I've always wished they would have remodeled Giants Stadium.
BigBlue in Keys : 12/1/2019 7:43 pm : link
Especially after seeing Soldier Field last week that was but in 1924. Take the old bones, add the luxury boxes they love and put a fancy facade back over it.

Cheers to anyone who sat out in that stadium with that weather to watch this team. Hard enough to watch in 80 degrees.
I haven’t been to
Daniel in MI : 12/1/2019 8:40 pm : link
A game there but was on the field for the Giants 5K a couple of years ago. Felt smaller than Giants stadium and I thought watching a game there might be ok.

But the overall impression with the grey seats was what a drab, lifeless edifice. Trying to have two teams meant they did neither a service. Were the designers like “here’s your stadium design, please hand over $3 million”?
the Giants actually wanted to do a retro lambeau
Justlurking : 12/1/2019 8:47 pm : link
brick look like their offices there. I saw the designs years ago and wanted to cry. A million times better than what it became. This was when jets were trying to move to hudson yards.

Worst stadium ive ever been to.

moespree : 12/1/2019 9:13 pm : link
Not just the look of it, everything about it. Imagine building a new stadium that is not only uglier than the old one but also less useful than the old one and more cluttered too. That's difficult to pull off even if you were trying to.
The new stadium reminds me of what I Think
bradshaw44 : 12/1/2019 9:15 pm : link
Purgatory would be like. You’re just kind of there. Nothing great, nothing awful, just a large bowl filled with seats, drab colors, and nothing to attract you to any certain part of the stadium other than the beer.
Forget how ugly it looks, or how much of a PITA it is to get in and
jcn56 : 12/1/2019 9:28 pm : link
out - they moved the upper deck so much farther from the field it went from being a decent place to catch a game at a reasonable price to 'fuck this, I can't see the players names and numbers'.

The idiots who built that thing managed to make it much harder to see the game - as high def and big screen TVs became much more affordable at home. So now, you're left to go for the ambiance - which even when they were winning was half the crowd checking cell phones for fantasy football scores and the other half being so drunk from the tailgating that they didn't even know a football game was going on.

I am almost positive the Giants had a beautiful red brick design for the stadium that would have been used had the Jets moved to Hudson Yards. Similar to the look of their office and practice facility. This current toaster design was definitely not "all Giants"

I sat at Yankee Stadium with a pole obstructing my view and watched lousy Giants teams (1967 on forward). I sat on a bench at the Yale Bowl and watched lousy Giants teams. I sat at Shea Stadium which was the Jets home and watched lousy Giants teams. Then went to brand new Giants Stadium and though a beautiful Stadium, still watched lousy Giants teams until Simms, Taylor, Parcells, Young, etc. changed everything. Now I sit at Met Life (hey we have cup holders here). Have seen one miracle year, but am now waiting for that change. Hopefully I see it in my lifetme.
One little thing that bothers me
Matt M. : 12/1/2019 10:48 pm : link
is all that money and the lights outside have colored lenses over them to illuminate the stadium blue or green...no LED? Is that an example of the jobs created by the stadium?
If the Giants
David B. : 12/1/2019 11:07 pm : link
were perennially competitive like -- not even the Pats -- say, even as good as the Eagles or the Steelers (i.e. usually good for 9-11 wins a year), the stadium would be filled on shitty days like today, despite the weather, and no one would be talking about the quality of the stadium. At all.

Only people buying Giants tickets now are fathers who want to take their too-young-to-know-how-bad-this-team-sucks kids to their first NFL game. And right now, they can do so because the season ticket holders can't get rid of their tickets fast enough.

But it's true. Empty seats are the ONLY thing that EVER makes a Mara clean house. In that respect, it's a good thing.
Tbh, they could be undefeated and heading to the SB
