Shurmur vs McAdoo

Tim in Eternal Blue : 12/1/2019 6:20 pm
"The Giants fired Ben McAdoo after 28 regular-season games. He was 13-15 and went to the playoffs in his first year. Pat Shurmur coached his 28th game today. He is 7-21.". PFT

I didn't check to see if someone else posted it. I don't care to be honest.

7 - 21

is even worse when you consider they include losses this year to:

Arizona
Detroit
Ny Jets
Dallas- twice and they are just 6-6

and include 1 win vs TB that we should habe lost and a win against Washington who was playing with 3 backup Olinemen and an injured QB.
MacAdoo both couldn't coach and wasn't able
Giantz_comeback : 12/1/2019 6:25 pm : link
To relate to his players. Shurmur is a little better relating to his players but just isn't head coach material. He seems to be one of those lifetime decent coordinators but who are absolutely out of their element as a HC.
McAdoo was a better coach than Shurmur
jcn56 : 12/1/2019 6:26 pm : link
that much is pretty evident at this point. Shurmur's really not very good at this, so it's not setting the bar high for McAdoo.
They both sucked, seriously.
Britt in VA : 12/1/2019 6:26 pm : link
Don't rewrite history on McAdoo.

He was a supposed offensive guru who took the 6th scoring offense in the NFL, and with the same personnel turned them into the 26th scoring offense in 2016.
McAdoo was a hot mess
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 12/1/2019 6:26 pm : link
The first year they went to playoffs because of an unsustainable +/- turnover ratio. When that reverted to the mean, it was obvious he wasn’t a very good coach. Either apparently is Shurmur.
Do we think McAdoo had better assistant coaches?
EricJ : 12/1/2019 6:27 pm : link
because that matters too...
The MacAdoo record is skewed
Giantz_comeback : 12/1/2019 6:28 pm : link
Because he had a 2016 defense that played out of its mind.

He was an offensive HC and his offense was pathetically bad.

When the defense played much worse the next year the team couldn't win any games with the offense.
mcadoo was fired for embarrassing eli
japanhead : 12/1/2019 6:29 pm : link
with the benching for geno thing and supposedly losing the locker room which was apparent even kind of early on in the 2017 season.

that aside he was probably a better coach than shurmur, and spags looks to have been a much better DC than bettcher.

the fact that the giants switched to a 3-4 without anywhere near the personnel to do it to get bettcher in here is looking almost as bad as hiring shurmur on a 5-year deal.
Stop with the

fucking offensive coaches who call their own dam plays.
Both were and are trash
Tim in Eternal Blue : 12/1/2019 6:33 pm : link
Who is the hotshot coordinator to replace PS?

Beats the fuck out of me.
Would be great if the Giants could go out
PhilSimms15 : 12/1/2019 6:37 pm : link
And hire a HC who is a proven winner. No more too assistants. It’s too much of a crapshoot for a team that has been in the toilet too long.

Lincoln Riley, Matt Ruhle, David Shaw, make one of them an offer impossible to reject.
This year is as easy as it will get
GiantEgo : 12/1/2019 6:37 pm : link
This year they avoided San Fran, Seahawks, Saints, Ravens, Chiefs...

Yeah, that's the scary thing. In any other division we're possibly looking at a 0-16 team. This team is that bad.

McAdoo was terrible, and the team was a mess, but what you didn't see was the week to week regression that you're seeing now. Players are actually worse as they continue playing for Shurmur. Barkley is exhibit A. The guy is not a good running back now. But it's all over the roster.
As bad as MaAdoo was

He really wasn't. They were both Offensive HC's who were also the playcallers. Look at both offenses and you'll see neither are good.
It’s time we stop hiring a HC to run an offense

.
Here's what you need to know about McAdoo.....
Britt in VA : 12/1/2019 6:59 pm : link
2015 New York Giants offense: 6th in the NFL (McAdoo/Coughlin coaching)
2015 New York Giants defense: 31st in the NFL (Spagnolo coaching)

2016 New York Giants offense (same personnel, McAdoo coaching) 26th in the NFL
2016 New York Giants defense (Spagnolo, 200 million in free agency) 1st in the NFL

He was. Just look at the record. He had his own faults but he is a better coach than Shurmur.

McAdoo's fatal flaw was losing the locker room. That's something Shurmur is good at.

McAdoo was saddled with the same shitty o line problems that Shurmur has which is a contributing factor to their offensive issues.

At this point we are debating what is better, a giant douche or a turd sandwich.
McAdoo is Vince Lombardi...
bw in dc : 12/1/2019 7:08 pm : link
compared to this imbecile Shurmur.

McAdoo got sabotaged by two-faced Mara who needed a fall guy for the Eli benching plan he actually approved.

I still think spags was a good defensive coach
mattlawson : 12/1/2019 7:09 pm : link
And would prefer him here almost over anybody else
People are going to say
allstarjim : 12/1/2019 7:09 pm : link
McAdoo was better because of recency bias and because of McAdoo winning a lot of games off the back of Spags' defense.

They are both offensive-oriented coaches. Shurmur has had the benefit of Saquon, McAdoo had a better version of OBJ for a year. But Shurmur's offense is superior to McAdoo's, and it's not close.

That's why McAdoo sucks so much. He brought a new offense to the Giants that was a complete dumpster fire.

Shurmur doesn't have the wins, but his offense is functional. The QB play will get better, the turnovers will go down, and the wins will follow.
if you take out the games vs the Giants, Dallas is 4-6
markky : 12/1/2019 7:33 pm : link
that's how bad the division is.

The 2015 offense
hitdog42 : 12/1/2019 7:38 pm : link
Was as much BMs- he was the OC and calling plays. it was also inflated because the defense sucked and we put up huge numbers in second halves

2016 the team won with defense and was more conservative on offense to try and actually win football games- add in Odell big plays and good clock management and it was 11 wins.

McAdoo was right
giantfan2000 : 12/1/2019 7:49 pm : link
McAdoo knew Eli was DONE 3 years ago.. desperately wanted Giants to draft Patrick Mahomes .
McAdoo
GiantTuff1 : 12/1/2019 7:49 pm : link
was a better situational coach and I don’t think it’s close. There were many instances in 2016 where just the way he managed the game was a reason we won and limited mistakes. Shurmur consistently makes 2-5 mind numbing idiotic calls each game.

I think Shurmur’s a better offensive coach than McAdoo, but both were/are in over their head.

I do feel bad for him as he’s seems like a great guy, but he’s not the major force at HC you would hope for out of the head man in that job.

Mahomes was gone when the Giants selected Egram with the 23rd pick. They would have had to trade up to get PM.
