Any chance Shurmur gets the Fassel Treatment?

The other kind of Fassel treatment....the kind where he never works in this league again.

Why would either side want that? Just let one of the assistants handle things for a few weeks.

He came to them because he didn't want all the speculation, and they confirmed that he wouldn't be back. I don't see Shurmur pushing the issue unless he wants to get fired.

went to Mara's office and forced that decision. If you recall, everyone knew that Fassel was dead and he was going to get fired on Black Monday. Fassel went up to Mara's office and basically said to him "look, we both know how this is going to end, if I'm getting fired, let's just say so and I'll finish coaching and be able to get my name out looking for another job and you can start to contact your interviews (which everyone knew was Coughlin)"

Fassel at least had earned the respect to do so because he did go to a Super Bowl and won the division twice and made the playoffs in 2002. Shurmur hasn't earned anything and based on his quotes to the media, he's pretty unaware of what is going on around him.

Shurmur is going to get fired and he is going to be paid millions to sit on his ass the next 2 years until he re-surfaces somewhere else as the OC in 2022.

How much of that was having Sean Payton and John Fox as his assistants will always be debated but the Fassel era were the glory years compared to this mess.

I don't remember that. Thanks. I guess it makes more sense now. I thought it was more that the Giants fired Fassel, but didn't really have anyone to be the interim so they let him coach out the season.

Fassel actually had defensive talent during his tenure. Stratham, Hamilton, Armstead, Barrow, Sehorn, Sparks, decent players.

We can’t stop anybody

With 4 games left. They’ll wait until seasons over. They aren’t firing another HC in the season, back to back. I do think they will come to their senses and admit a mistake was made. It’s the only way to get this Org restarted. I don’t think it’s a full reset as there is a foundation already in place here, but the next guy needs to show that he can build a winner.

PS doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence as Jim Fassel. If you were just a little guy in 1990 it was rough growing up a Giant fan. He made us a winner for the first time in our fan-lives.

is actually a reason to let him finish out this lame duck season. They can count on him just moving along and doing the job without issue, media leaks, player division etc. He is boring and will be boring until fired and that keeps a sinking ship just sinking and not blowing up too.

does nothing other than make mara seem overreactive and/or punitive which would possibly prevent other coaches from wanting to come here.

shurmur should be given enough rope to hang himself.

Washington fans revolted when Snyder was going to hire Fassel and they ended up with Jim Zorn.

Hopefully we get a Shanny now

because he let a hooker steal his playbook. I heard this firsthand from a former player from that team.
