Draft order

ray in arlington : 12/1/2019 7:59 pm
1. CIN 1-11 (-20.5) ##
2. NYG 2-10
3. WAS 3-9 (-6.5) ## see below
4. MIA 3-9 (-7)
5. ATL 3-9 (-18) ##
6. DET 3-8-1*
7. ARI 3-8-1*
8. JAC 4-8 (-1)
9. NYJ 4-8 (-6)
10. LAC 4-8 (-7.5)
11. DEN 4-8 (-11.5) ##

## almost certainly pick behind NYG in case of a tie.
# likely to pick behind NYG in case of a tie
* NYG or DET or ARI would have to play a tie game for this tie to occur

In this listing, ties are broken using the stregth of schedule (SOS) based on the current records of all 16 opponents (division opponents count twice).
Lower SOS picks earlier. The NFL puts out draft order that doesn't include an opponents record in a team's SOS until that team plays that opponent.

TIEBREAK WITH WAS

The first tiebreaker for draft order is strength of schedule, not head-to-head. This is according to the NFL ops website. If the Giants end up tied with WAS, the team that picks ahead is the team that wins fewer games against the following two teams. You can see the Giants are very likely to pick ahead.

NYG: ARI, TB. Currently 8.5 wins (15.5 losses). There's 8 more wins these teams can get.
WAS: CAR, SF. Currently 15 wins (9 losses). There's 8 more losses these teams can get.

Magic number is 2 (any combination of ARI loss or TB losses or CAR wins or SF wins) for NYG to take this tiebreak.

trade down offers when it came to Barkley at 2.

A team willing to pay a lot to grab a franchise talent (especially a QB) May very well be the best way to turn a team around.

The fact that he admitted to not even turning over all the stones on trade down offers is so irritating.

I'm not following you. An interim head coach would have to come from the existing staff. Who on this staff do you want to be interim head coach?

Dream scenario

Giants draft #1 with the Bengals and Dolphins at 2 and 3, we trade down to #3 and get Chase Young AND a nice haul of picks.

Yeah never gonna happen but I can dream.

Never say never.
Miami has a boat load of picks (two 1s, two 2s)
90.Cal : 12/1/2019 10:59 pm : link
And if we have the 1st pick and the Bengals have the 2nd and the Dolphins have the 3rd pick, like you say.... that would be very interesting. DG probably doesn't risk losing Young. Dolphins would want to jump Cincy for Burrow though, no question.

Assuming Cinci ends up with 1 or 2 wins.....are you telling us that if we are tied with either Washington, Miami, or Atlanta that we are practically guaranteed to pick second?

If that is true, then it appears we can win one more game and not be hurt by it. That if we are 3-13, we will pick second for sure! Is this true? If not for sure, why not?

I won’t ask about us winning two more games because I can see there are so many teams with only 3 wins, so,it depends on what those teams are doing as well.

Actually be going 3-13 we will be giving Washington or Miami a 4th win, so one of those teams will pick behind NYG. So at 3-13 the Giants would be 4th (almost certainly 3rd).

Note that I have not added a comment yet on the tiebreak vs Miami. The Giants have a good lead (7 games) and I would say it is likely but not certain.

Ray, sorry to be thick here but I’m still confused.
Am I reading you right? Did you just say here that if we go 3-13 we will either be picking 3rd or fourth? Why not picking SECOND?

I don’t see it....who picks second or third?

1. Cinci 2-14
2. ? Miami, ny, or Atlanta....assume they all are 3-13 (Washington beat us so they are 4-12)

How do we pick AFTER Miami or Atlanta or Washington if we all have the same record?

Slip of the “pen” - I mean top 4 (almost certainly top 3)

Something to consider for the draft
Go Terps : 12/2/2019 12:04 am : link
Quarterbacks always move up the board as the draft approaches. Between January and April there are interviews, combine, pro days...they hire experts to help them ace each of these aspects of what is essentially a four month long job interview. And they won't have to face a single blitz or discussed coverage that whole time.

I'd expect Burrow to look like the shoo in top pick by the draft. It'll be interesting to see how the Giants would handle that if they pick 1.

From 1 to 2 and wind up with Chase Young and a few other picks. I think people are crazy to talk about dumping DJ. We just spent a season getting him experience. Even if Burrow is a better prospect we have so many other needs.

If you assume Cinn and Mia will not pass up on a QB, Wash and Atl are the only ones that could mess up the Chase pick. IMO, we pick behind one of those 2.

Even with the tie breakers in our favor, may be tough not to get that 4th win. Ya, Ya, Ya, we suck, bla, bla, bla.

When its all said and done, I think the coaching staff remains - year 3 of 5 year rebuild.

I wonder how many of his supporters would have been in favor of hiring him if this interview scenario could've taken place;

Generic Pro Gettleman guy: So Dave, you're taking over a 3 win team. Where do you see us in two years?

Dave Gettleman: Worst case 2 wins. Best case maybe 4 wins. Now let me tell you a little about my resume...

SGMen : 12/2/2019 11:16 am : link
Get the #1 pick and trade QB Burrow and our #4 to the #2 spot (Cincy) and get their #1, #2 and #3 this year and #2 and #4 next year. Or maybe their #1, #2 and #1 next year even. Whatever but fleece someone.

Get DE D. Young who will rush the passer well as a rookie, trust me. Rebuild this defense.

A few key veteran UFA's to upgrade our defense along with good draft picks and the development of our youth and we could really show improvement next year.
