Sean O’Hara - Barkley limited by shot gun

joeinpa : 12/1/2019 8:00 pm
He made two pts. 1. It limits Barkley s ability to use his great cut back ability
2. it s more difficult for offensive line men to run block from shot gun

On Post game, I m not really doing it justice, but that was the gist.
Papa, Banks, Diehl, O'Hara all killing Shurmur.

Now we just need Dottino to fire the kill shot.
He's really

Saying limited by Shurmur, like all of the other players. Coaches are supposed to put their players in positions to succeed at least some of the time.
I agree
Rjanyg : 12/1/2019 8:02 pm : link
We need to be QB under enter, a FB and TE or 2 TE.

Shot gun spread works ok once in while.
Not to give any credence to Shurmur,
Diver_Down : 12/1/2019 8:06 pm : link
but he stated that to be an NFL QB they have to know how to play under center. I've been noting the shotgun/under center play calling since preseason. I give up make the argument. I'm sure Zeke will be along shortly to defend the shotgun.
Anyone have a link to O'Hara's comments?

Cept when Jones
McNally's_Nuts : 12/1/2019 8:15 pm : link
Is under center, it’s either a run or a bootleg.

The defense knows what’s coming
IMO Shurmur's playcall in general is not helping
ChaChing : 12/1/2019 8:16 pm : link
and there's way too many times even so there's shit blocking (tho again, you can help your blockers w/ scheme better than this nonsense)

that said, Barkley healthy or not is not reading his blocks & holes very well, and mostly hasn't all season as compared to last year

Kinda a perfect storm of suck

We do too much shotgun. What pisses me off about Shurmur is he constantly is changing formations and what not within drives. We should Def be sprinkling in drives where we exclusively line up under center occassionaly. Go look at what BB does. He generally commits to formations and style on full drives. He switches too something else when it isn't working. PS does shit play to play.
incredible that they're not running
Justlurking : 12/1/2019 8:19 pm : link
out of pistol formations. How do you not incorporate that look?

PS style of play calling doesn't let anyone get in a rhythm.

'Under center' may offer more offensive run options
GeofromNJ : 12/1/2019 8:26 pm : link
but Shurmur may be concerned that Jones' visibility will be limited if he's not in the shotgun and also that he might be overwhelmed by the defensive line before he has a chance to drop back, turn, set up, look downfield and throw. Not saying that I know. Just saying this may be Shurmur's thinking.
many more options under center
gtt350 : 12/1/2019 8:32 pm : link
play action , rollouts, sweeps if we ever pull a guard or god forbid both of them

Lmao, I was thinking to myself, all these guys have started criticizing the staff, but has PDot?

train for Barkley is pretty impressive.

If he's as good as BBI believes, none of it would matter.

Bingo. Giants numbers going into this week...

Under center: 27% (9th lowest in NFL)
Shotgun: 73%

They run on 74% of their "Under center" formations (5th most in league).

They throw on 82% of their "Shotgun" formations (8th most in the league).

The whole world knows you don’t like the pick but there’s clearly something very wrong here, weird that you can’t just admit it. Between his injury, this putrid offensive scheme, and the regression of the line, not sure what exactly you expect.

If those are “excuses” then so be it. It’s like his 2018 performance didn’t happen.

I really don't think you understand how important coaching is in football. I'm starting to think he had good offenses in minn because he had an offensive line that played way above its head and tremendous skill players.

So he's not getting your vote for the HoF?

I know it's 'throw dirt on Shurmur' time, but did O'Hara mention Spielman's reference that he's tipping plays, or the flaws in his pass pro?
When you trade away a WR
BigBlueDownTheShore : 12/1/2019 9:41 pm : link
That demands double coverage, you get more 8 man boxes to stop the run.

It should really baffle anyone why Saquon isn’t playing as well this season.

Shurmur didn't have a good offense in MN. Mike Zimmer has a good offense in MN. Shurmur was his employee as OC following Zimmer's orders. That's how it works.

Kind of like why the current Giants defense is not on the DC it's on the HC. He runs the entire team.
Our tactics reveal
greek13 : 12/1/2019 10:10 pm : link
We are a poorly prepared team. Our weapons are far from top shelf but we
put ourselves against the wall by not lining up under center with a fb and 26
Zone and RPO are not hard to defend when you see it over and over - I hate the HC calling plays and trying to manage the game - I would not hire a HC that wants that -

Complete mulligan on D - chubby must go - we are so so weak in the middle of the field ILB and S - Our edge except 44 is horrible and the big 3 bring zero to PR -

DG - Williams deal is horrifying - Jenkins not traded ugh
I’m having trouble thinking we have a plan
The Giant Way has been lost - we have lost our way for years
I mentioned this
Bradshaw's Decal : 12/1/2019 10:38 pm : link
2weeks ago... Next year, with a different scheme and staff, things will be much better. P.S. seems to be easily figured out, basically a 1year wonder as an O coordinater..
O'Hara said its hard to run block from shotgun?
widmerseyebrow : 12/1/2019 11:00 pm : link

Maybe it's just hard for shitty offensive linemen to run block.
Does O'Hara realize that Barkley went to Penn State
Bramton1 : 12/1/2019 11:50 pm : link
Which runs exclusively out of the shotgun?

You’ve become a poor mans GoTerps. We get it, the team sucks. We get it, you hate Gettleman. But crapping on Barkley accomplishes what? Darnold had a banner day after his fan boys be did a victory lap after 3 weeks
Barkley is limited
DannyBoy : 12/2/2019 5:11 am : link
more by running into the wall of his line than anything else. With Barkley's speed and quickness, why isn't he running around the edges more?

I do agree though, he needs to be behind the quarterback more. One of my biggest complaints with the coach is that he doesn't seem to really play our best players to their strengths.

Jones was the 2nd fasted quarterback coming out, right behind that AZ guy who is getting 10 carries a game. Jones had a few QB sneaks and one or two minor runs yesterday. I don't want to endanger him, but really, he needs to be moving around the pocket more. He had a huge hole on the left side in the 1st quarter I think, and just threw it away or over the receiver to the left. I was shocked.
True

Not to mention that the runn8ng plays are totally lacking in creativity
I really liked Sean as a player...
