I would assume it was Spielman who said Barkley was tipping away pass plays by looking over the defense to identify his blocking assignment. They showed a clip of him looking around pre-snap while discussing it implying it was a pass play. I don't remember them showing running play to show what he did on a running play.
What was your take on this? Any truth to this? Anyone ever notice anything like this?
I remember years ago going to a Giants game with a friend of mine who was an assistant coach at University of Texas. He was correctly calling run or pass on pretty much every play based on the way Shockey was lining up and where he looked before the snap. He couldn't believe no one coached him out of it because it was so obvious to someone who knew to look for it.

Under Fassel or Coughlin Matt?

but I'd trust Spielman because he was a hell of a linebacker in college and in the pros. He wasn't the biggest guy, but he was very productive, so I'd think that in his past experiences that was one of the tells that he'd look for. That's a detail thing which a heady player like a Spielman would pick out. And a detail that I'd expect a coach on the Giants to point out to keep Barkley from doing that...but alas, that's far too much to ask.

It was the Giants vs. Texans game in 2006. So it was actually Coughlin and Mike Pope. I'd be surprised if either of those guys weren't aware of this, and maybe Shockey just didn't take to the coaching. But I was stunned that he literally called it pretty much every play and he was getting frustrated by it. This was sitting in the stands watching the game.
However, when it is a run play, he looks just straight ahead...
Yeah, that should have been the smoking gun for Mara.
DJ threw the pass early because he was about to get sacked
Our RG doing some little bounce right before the snap.
Shurmur was a center, why does he allow this shit?
