That we at least know of right now. About our only hope right at this point of this dwindling season (besides maybe a shot at Chase Young).
1.Jim Harbaugh- Grade: A. 44-19 with 9ers. Almost one a Superbowl with Colin Kap. Has clearly done it on every level. Quick turnarounds with almost every program he has taken over.
2. Ron Rivera- Grade : B/B+ - he has also gotten to a Super bowl and his teams play hard and a lot smarter than Shurmur has shown thus far. I believe there's a decent shot he'd also be able to get Norv to come with him. A Rivera/Norv combo would give us two competent coaches on both the offensive and defensive side. And hopefully we keep one of our only strong coaches in McGaughey. All with Carolina connections and history together.
3. Jason Garrett- grade: C/C- would be another Milquetoast and uninspiring hire after 2 quite uninspiring coaching choices here. Would need Marinelli to come with him just to make it a little more palatable. He would still be better than our last 2 coaches but to me we would be going from very worst to a mediocre Head Coach. Step up? Sure . But not enough if our goal is eventually getting back to a Super Bowl. Fear is with how Giants love guys with prior New York connections and familiarity they might jump at the chance to hire him.
4. Matt Rhule- Grade: C - after 2 unproven coaches in terms of being able to clearly win on the NFL level in Mac and Shurm, I dont think they go high risk / high reward with a purely college coach whose never really tasted being an NFl head coach. Could end up being a stud coach or total bust. Don't know if I want another iffy proposition.
5. Mike Tomlin- Grade B/B+- more a long shot because don't know if the Rooneys will part ways with him but if he somehow shakes loose would be a great get with a 3-4 background.
Lol good catch. To me he'd be a C- hire. Another guy with limited but fairly negative HC experience. Has ANY of the BB proteges become great coaches?
Names to add to the list, for better or worse:
McDaniels
Kris Richard
Mike McCarthy
Dan Campbell
Greg Roman
Jack Del Rio
Not a very inspiring list. McDaniels would be my choice, far and away. Of course Mara will just want someone to "restore Giants pride" aka get us to 7-9 and not make waves...
Smart money is on Garrett.
And the cries for Cohwer..wash, rinse, repeat.
mcdaniels i'd be ok with but apparently he passed in 2018 due to gettleman or having final personnel say or some such. did mcdaniels call plays in denver? only thing i remember about his time there is getting rid of cutler and marshall, drafting tebow in the first and basically ruining that team before tucking his tail between his legs and running back to his safe space be coordinator under belichick.
Rhule is risky, he hasn’t done it on the NFL level yet. Harbaugh has built programs wherever he’s been which includes the NFL level. For the crap he gets currently for not beating OSU, they are still better than before he got there.
I do worry that we’ve been so bad that we will go the McCarthy/Rivera/Garrett route.
Superbowl winning coach was also in the playoffs 9 of 13 years in GB.
Aaron Rodgers arrogance aside he did a good job there
didn't kubiak almost die on the sideline or something? i don't think he's the guy.
i don't want any part of dan quinn. saleh seems too inexperienced.
they should take a shot with ruhle. plenty of college guys have worked out as NFL head coaches.

and Kubiak to that list. I bet they’d give Dan Quinn a look too.

Too much risk and I agree with that thinking. I think after the last 2 they will want bonafide proven winners at the NFL level. Unfortunately that may include Garrett but that would also be Harbaugh and Rivera. Rivera I think is an absolute excellent fit. 3-4 background/familiarity (which I think they'll want to stick with) and then maybe get Turner here too.
Kubiak I think has made it clear he doesn't want the HC title due to his health. But if we can get him as OC that'd be a great get.

Josh McDaniel isn't on it.

O'Brian is doing well in Houston and leading his division. Vrabel is somehow winning in Tennessee with Tannehill as his quarterback.
In his current condition, Vince Lombardi is unlikely to coach anywhere.
Give me someone who can build a program because this will not be an easy turnaround. I like Harbaugh or Tomlin.
There are college coaches that clearly know how to put a program in place (Swinney, Fleck, Rhule) but you would have to be prepared to give them a longer runway to do the same in the pros. There could be a learning curve.
Very few college coaches would I take a risk on without previous successful NFL HC experience. He might be one of the very few exceptions.
Urban Meyer
Nick Saban (old, but could reset things for us)
Lincoln Riley
Jim Harbaugh
Dabo Swinney
The trouble is I doubt any of them would be interested in the Giants. Riley, Saban and Swinney already have better jobs than the Giants job, with more stability and money that’s as good or better.
I would argue Harbaugh is in a worse job, but again it’s close and he has stability and major money. And a personal tie to the program.
Urban Meyer can pick his next job and I doubt the Giants are near the top of his list.
None of these guys are coming to work with DG or Chris Mara though.
