It’s not all on the players. It’s coaching too.

I’m not saying that the Giants D is close to the Steelers D

But

For people who say Shurmur has nothing...

“#Steelers have won 6 of 7. Their QBs have been Mason Rudolph and Duck Hodges. They’ve largely been w/out their biggest name RB and WR and most of their skill players have & lt;3yrs experience.”

Coaching might matter.

Steelers winning 6 of 7 - ( New Window )
It's possible both are true, you know

Shurmur is a lousy head coach, AND the roster he's been given is trash.

True.

Now that's really discouraging, isn't it?
The steelers actually know what they're doing, more or less

People here will get offended at the accusation because of homerism, but a team going 2-9 is called dysfunction, not process.
yes

Look at O - Line ... Soldier was a decent lineman before he came to Giants
he has not been hurt since he has been here yet he looks worse than Flowers now ..
the scheme and coaching have to be a huge factor in our OL sucking so bad

The reasoning in my best estimation , whether you agree or not

Would be this:

1. He has had some big hits drafting from early picks to late round picks. Everyone has a couple misses in the draft. For how much a crap shoot the draft is he has really nailed some picks.

2. Some of the guys not playing well may not be just because they are young but the coaching staff has failed to put them in best position to succeed with a combination of poor coaching, poor play calling, scheming etc.

3. He had a very tough assignment if ownership signed off on largely overhauling the team as he did of malcontents and they may think he did a pretty credible job revamping them on the fly without major cap space (with coaching being the main reason they aren't at least a close to .500 team now). I would agree with this, there is enough talent to be at least a 6-8 win team with better coaching all around.

4. The year we hired Shurm and Bettcher he may not have been HIS top pick but ownership's . Also there was VERY little out there to pick from. It was a bad year to need a head coach besides a total surprise or 2. Not guys who were fairly obvious picks that they missed out on.

Bottomline, Gettleman may not be perfect but he's done enough right to warrant to continue with him I believe in their opinion and my opinion too.
Who are the big drafting hits?

And if you say Barkley I can't take anything else you say seriously. Drafting Barkley at #2 is turning into a disaster.

Jones obviously despite public opinion against it, Barkley has had a tough year but has clearly already shown in his rookie year he is a special talent, Dexter Lawrence, Hernandez, Ballentine, Connelly, Slayton. All these guys have flashed. And should improve with better coaching.
