I know this probably doesn't deserve it's own thread, but I figured I'd throw this out there.
Dave Gettleman has been very quiet throughout this dumpster fire of a season - could it be that he's stepping down (or being forced to "retire" similar to TC) at the end of the season?
We have a younger guy in Kevin Abrams who is here and awaiting an opportunity, and we also have a coach that may be let go very soon.
My point is, if Shurmur is fired, I would be that there's a good chance DG goes with him (in a graceful fashion) and then an organizational change can occur, where the Mara's and Tisch's can bring a guy like Matt Rhule, Josh McDaniels, or the guy I've been praying for for years, David Shaw...
What does BBI think about this?
Perfect
He is here for at least one more year
By canning Shurmur after 2 years they are calling it gross incompetence. Considering that, they will not also fire Gettleman.
It's a logic trail. Full blame will be assigned to PS.
We can only pray
Apparently some people haven't got the memo that Matt Rhule is the college guy we're supposed to obsess over this go-round.
Will be interesting to see how this pans out.
This is why he is quiet. No other reason.
Better hope no one hires Urban Meyer, then
Right.. he said this was his dream job. Does anyone here think he will quit because BBI says he should?
Still waiting for a list of upgrades over DG if we fire him.
Anyone??
For a cap guy, he's not much of a cap guy.

Seems like your question should be, would Mara let him trade 2020/2021 draft picks if he was stepping down, but I don't see why Gettleman would be reluctant to trade picks that he won't be here to make. Some sort of honor to his legacy? If anything, I'd say that his pride/arrogance makes it all the more likely that he'd want to have his fingerprints on a player who is more of a known quantity than leaving behind a draft pick for someone else to make.

I don't think that's happening.

We're supposed to generate a list of potential NFL GMs without the network that the owners have? Does that seem reasonable?
I know he is likely going to be the next GM but none of us should want or be excited for Abrams.

They wouldn't have cap issues if the new GM didnt come in the door swinging and missing on free agent contracts, signing beckham to a monster deal then trading him immediately.
41 million in dead money is squarely on Dave gettleman.

Fair enough, but that dead money is mostly coming off the cap this offseason (of course, the enormity of the dead money scorched earth that DG created caused them to borrow some cap space from 2020 and 2021, so I view those restructures as extensions of dead money from this year), as is their expensive franchise QB contract, and somehow the Giants are only in the middle third of the league in terms of cap room. That's a reflection of the contracts that are on the books, not the ones that were jettisoned. Abrams as lead negotiator leaves quite a bit to be desired (unless you're an agent, in which case you'll want for nothing), IMO.
Agree 1000%
Looking at this roster, there is talent. The main issue to me has been the amount of rookies we are relying on this year. If you include Beal, we had 6 rookies on the field during yesterdays game: Lawrence, Ximines, Love, Ballentine, Baker and Beal. If Connelly was healthy he would be out there too.
On offense, We have Jones, Slayton and Kaden Smith starting.
That is a total of 8 rookies starting. I cannot recall a time when 8 rookies were getting significant playing time at critical positions. Shit, most years you are lucky if 5 of your 7 draft picks make the team.
Wrap your minds around that for 1 second.
The roster is young and the dead cap space this team has along with $23 Million back up QB is preventing us from competing.
