The Minneapolis Miracle:
If the Minneapolis Miracle doesn't happen. If Diggs doesn't make that one catch, the Eagles play the Saints and do not win their Super Bowl.
Also, its very likely we don't end up with Murmur as head Coach. That season made him a hot candidate.
we all likely hire someone else, and 7-25 2018-2019 Giants do not happen.. all because of one catch.. interesting
McDaniels and Patricia not being candidates who didn't want the Giants job
Gettleman not getting the GM job
But, I see where you are going with that. Here is a more direct one right now:
What if the BUCS had beat us and coming off that loss, we put up a barely acceptable win vs Wash- who was missing 3 starting offensive linemen, a QB (who Shurmur was very familiar with) playing injured etc..
We could be winless right now or 1-11 and Shurmur out already and DG possibly right behind him..
So what do the Giants do just hours after Shurmur is dismantled by our division rival? Hire him as the head coach.
Can't make this shit up.
JonC has rightly pointed out that the Giants have been terrible with self-scouting for a while, and IMO that was ground zero for it. That rather miraculous title run convinced the powers that be to keep trying to cobble together enough for one more miraculous run with Eli Manning instead of taking a hard look at that team and assessing it with a critical eye. They mistook a well-timed hot streak as a blueprint for future success. The seeds of the recent years of abject failure were sown in that offseason.

I see your point but they still had a decent season in 2012. 9-7 with a point differential that suggested they were really more of a 10-6 team. One point loss in Washington late in the season cost them the division. But that was truly the last gasp for that group. So I'd push your turning point forward a year. Because them coming back in 2013 trying for one more run and to make the super bowl in our own stadium was obviously misguided. The signal for the rebuild was getting blown out in successive games to end 2012 when they still could have made the playoffs.
On the road or even in the Dome, they underperform in January.
The way the Eagles and Rams played them in the playoffs last year, there's nothing about their play that suggests guaranteed anything.
Eagles would have beat the Saints that year, no doubt about it.

I agree with this. It was the main trepidation I had with hiring Shurmur, they really shouldn't have beat the Saints and then that Shurmur offense was absolutely crushed in the Philly game.
