How do attendance numbers work in the NFL

cjac : 12/2/2019 12:57 pm
I looked it up, and it had yesterdays Giant game attendance at just shy of 76k

There's no way there were 76k people in that stadium yesterday. Maybe 45 or 50k at most.

That cannot be tickets scanned, that has to be tickets sold right?
Back in the mid 1990s the NFL began using

ticket sales as "attendance" which is not accurate, to avoid reporting no-shows. Attendance is actually the turnstile count.

Don't they call it "paid attendance"?
Pretty sure every sport reports attendance as tickets sold.

And usually include comped tickets as well, so it's actually even more than tickets sold.
Those numbers are always shady

I think the Jets always have the exact same attendance at every home game or something like that.

I thought all sports report attendance numbers as tickets sold.
Its # of tix sold by the giants

Of course then countless are resold through ebay, StubHub, etc. but that has no impact on the number. Giants have already made their money on every one of those tix.

Every game has been sold out for decades. Which is why you cant just walk up to the stands on game day and say "1 ticket please"
