The Bargaining Agreement and Signing

players to extensions now. I see Philadelphia is signing several core players to extensions. It appears to me that the players are going to be making a lot more money in the next agreement and it makes sense that free agent contracts will go up a lot. Is this true? If so, do the Giants have any players they should consider extending now as core players? Hernandez, Golden? anyone else? Didn't George Young have the opportunity to sign core players for savings back in the 80s and let it pass till the agreement? Can't remember that. This team has so many holes that every dollar will count. Locking in core players ahead of time might be good business. Just curious as to whether the Eagles are right on this and of course, no one knows what the numbers in the agreement will be. The Eagles do seem to have managed their cap ahead of the curve for some time (well maybe not at QB!)
We have no cap money this year

I guess we could do extensions that start next year with the signing bonuses starting next year as well. The only player that really needs to be signed is Williams. I think the rest are either signed or not coming back anyway.

You also have to wonder is the coach situation would hinder any signings. if Shurmur is not coming back like many think, then you really want to wait on signing players for the new coach to have some input.
In addition to not having any cap room this year

Players can't be signed to extensions until after the third year of their rookie contract. Which means that most of the players who might make sense to extend aren't eligible yet.
